Road trips
« on: December 19, 2012, 05:09:29 PM »
Both my daughters "scored" band road trips in the coming year.

Octavia, a freshman music major at Ga. State, is going with the GSU marching band to march in the inaugural parade in January.  So paid 5-day trip to DC.  She does get a couple of free afternoons there for sightseeing.  I myself marched in LBJ's inaugural parade, so perhaps a family tradition in the making.

Melinda qualified 2nd in our region (NE GA) in 9-10 grade trumpet.  So we'll get o drive to beautiful scenic Perry, GA, for the final selection to all-state band.  She made it in 8th grade, but missed in 9th.  She also qualifies for the district honor band weekend in Blue Ridge in February.  If she qualifies for all-state that's in Savannah in March.

Congrats! I did my fair share of all-state and district honor bands in high school on trupet as well. Played in Jazz band in college so we didnt travel too much. The band did go to Progue to compete in the international Jazz festival and won though.
