Whatever happened to the Ford tow pig that was leaking trans fluid?

The truck made it all the way back, the leak seemed to slow down and was sporadic on the way home, stopping sometimes to find that it didn't appear to leak at all between the last fuel stop. It is barely reading a change on the dipstick now, I didn't have to add any for the return trip so I am estating that I lost less than a quart at most.

This truck is my daily driver now so I have to figure out when I am going to get the leak fixed. Don't want to end up with my slow leak turning into a big leak on the side of the road.

As for fuel mileage, I don't have all my receipts but I was calculating the mpg along the way and it was right at 12 for the average. That's a 7.3l weighing in just under 15,500lb.

Leaving trucks in Moab is another option and my favorite. Flying back and forth is easy.  ;D

Anyway, since I am a core member in GATR and also a Moab Friends 4 Wheeling member (also Red Rock 4 Wheeler :o), I wanted to thank you guys for coming out to Moab and letting us get to know you better.
Although I only got to wheel with you 3 days (rusty nail, pritchett, and hell's), it was a wonderful time and your group was awesome. I got to sharpen my spotting skills, recovery skills, emergency medicine skills, and Redroxx became a super tow rig x 2!  </LMAO/>
I'm glad to know you all are coming next year so my Moab club can better plan to host my Georgia club! Just to let the group know, we have a decent number of folks that like to do the easier stuff so if you give us a trail wish list in advance, we can provide some trail leaders and generally show everyone why we love Moab so much! I would hate to have someone not come because they don't have two lockers, big tires, etc.
Gary Lee and I are still sharing stories from your visit and we feel like we developed some lifelong friendships. We hope to wheel with you here in Georgia or at least meet up with you guys for dinner sometime soon.

Melissa, The trip definitely would not have been the same without you and Gary! You are one of the best spotters I've wheeled with! (Although it took me a few trys at "Rocker Knocker" to figure this out). My wife and I had an absolute blast!! I can't thank you & Gary enough for the hospitality and the tour of Moab!

Scott if you ever figure out the trans leak PM me. Like I said mine spit a lot out at the top of the cabins at Harlan. Didn't leak a drop on the way home, didn't leak towing to morris mountain but leaked a little when I got back. I was running faster coming home though

I too would like to know a total cost(minus broken stuff) to get out there and back... "so I can start saving my pennys for next year" lol

and Id be willing to throw in for someone to tow my rig out there.... A) cause I don't have a tow rig and B) to help split gas costs

so would yall say 35s were the best route for MOAB? ill be running 33s for a while...

Aside from the $1200+ fuel cost I spent 2 nights in a motel each way (average about $80/night) and $350 for the house rental during the week.  Ate mostly at the house and spent probably $20/day for food.  The two day rides used about 5 gals of gas each.  All in all, I think $2000 is a reasonable budget leaving some room for repairs/parts if you break.

Assuming you find someone who can tow your rig along with theirs, I'd think you'd need to pay more than half the fuel cost to account for wear and tear on your buddy's vehicle and trailer.  That would be up to you two to decide.  For the young and able-bodied team driving straight through save money on hotels but is hard on you.

Flying to SLC or Grand Junction would cost around $300 r/t, and you'd need to rent a car to get to and from Moab.  Danny can likely tell you what his expenses were in that regard.

Working on it man. Being off from work over a week plus trying to finish up the Judo/Kungfu school has been keeping me out till 10:45 at night.

Doug and Tony Show Fuel Costs:

Kennesaw to Moab - 1742 miles
Moab to Ok to Dallas to Kennesaw - 1870

Total miles - 3612
Avg. cost of diesel - $3.75
total gallons of diesel- 356
MPG - 10.15
Total fuel cost just for the trip - $1335

we also had some fuel to go get the trailer in Byron and then take it back but that is not reflected in the above numbers.
