What is a reasonable price for a 5.3 and/or 6.0 with the computer and all of the wires that has not been verified?

Don't forget the transmission.

Ya, great point!

Ya, great point!

And adapters for your transfer case
And motor mounts
And a radiator
And about a half dozen other things I'm forgetting.

The 6.0 I got came out of a wrecked Denali, but the motor was still running and could be seen before it was pulled.  I ended up paying less than $1K for it since the guy who did the work  was buying 3 engines at the same time.  Normally it would have been around $1200.  The TH350 tranny also came out of a running truck, and cost $200.  I wanted reverse manual shifting so had to buy a valve body from Summit whose price I forget.  The output shaft on these is 23 spline, so your transfer case of choice needs 23 spline input shaft.  The Novak adapter I had on the old 700R4 worked with the TH350, but wouldn't have if I'd gone with a TH400.

The engine doesn't come with all the accessories or exhaust, so count on sourcing those, along with a stripped ECM and tune.

Whether you need a new radiator depends on how the water inlets and outlets match up to the water pump.  In my case I kept the radiator, but the hose routing meant I needed a new fan to fit.  I also had to have the intake reversed on the block, meaning some minor rerouting of the fuel line.  It's likely you may need a new fuel pump to have enough pressure.  If you go with a fuel cell you'd do that anyway.  The truck oil pan hangs down pretty far, so a Camaro pan  was bought to replace it.

It's not a cheap process, so if the budget is tight it's not a good idea.  There's always something new popping up to add to the cost.

Dont disregard the 4.8L if you find a good deal, same block & bore as the 5.3, just different rods (increasing stroke). Not much of a power difference between them, the 5.3 generally make more torque while the 4.8L enjoys high revs. With the rod ratio and piston dwell time, the 4.8L responds to boost better than any of the LS engines. Anything you do with the 5.3 you can do with with 4.8l, with less torque. What I am saying is any of the Vortec V8 (LS family) would make good candidates and they are easy to transplant. The 4.8 is usually cheaper as people want bigger and dont pay attention to the facts. Take a look at the link at the end of this post. I have also posted another thread linking an article to a 4.8L (stock long block other than rings) making over 1200hp and survived.

I paid $200 for my 4.8L w/o harness. Just keep your eye out and look for deals they are out there.

I found a guy on craigslist that rebuilds 4L60E transmissions. Picked one up from him and had him change the rear output shaft to 4wd all for $500. This included a rebuilt torque convertor.

4.8L
2001 and above models made 270–285 hp and all have a torque rating between 285–295 lb·ft , depending on the model year and application. The 2005-2006 models made 285 hp  and 295 lb·ft. 2007-2009 and has a cast iron block. Power output is 260–295 hp and torque is 295–305 lb·ft

5.3L
1999 LM7 engine produced 270 hp and 315 lb·ft , 2000-2003 engines made 285 hp  and 325 lb·ft . The 2004-2007 engines made 295 hp and 335 lb·ft . The 2002-2003 made 285 hp and 320 lb·ft, while the 2004-2007 L59s made 295 hp and 335 lb·ft .

Yes, but not just any year. There is a year range for the computer because they changed things over the years.

You can get an ECM + Flash for $100 on ebay. You will have to get it flashed regardless because of the VATS and any emissions you want to remove, also they can set electric fan temps, etc. I used SpareECM.

You will also need the pedal if its not a cable operated throttle body.

If it comes with a ECM then send it to Wayne on Pirate.

There's a guy in Buford that did my ECM flash.

Good post on the drive-by-wire pedal vs. the throttle cable.  Mine uses the cable.

Mines cable too. IMO it would be preferred. Alot less complicated.
