Sounds like a blast. Excited to get off road again. Its been almost over a month and I'm going through withdrawal. As always, thanks for taking the time to scout out the ride Doug!

I just spent a long day scoping out some cool spots.

We are going to have a great time!

Bring plenty of supplies for the day.  We don't pass much.  We do pass a pair of porta potties.  Show up with a full tank of fuel.

I will air down to about 18 or 20.

2 departure points

8:30am from Dahlonega Walmart.  There is only one.

9am Wolf Pen Gap Country Store
41 Wolf Pen Gap Rd, Suches GA

I will provide meet up points for late comers or if some one gets separated.

Awesome! Thanks man! Looking forward to the ride!  //letseat//

And a big thanks for setting all this up! //salute// Should be a great time!

Ok, I have a cb radio and antenna installed. I will be at the meeting spot a little early looking for some help from the cb expert/tuners. Also mounted a fire extinguisher and got me a full size spare and trail jack. Can't wait to make this trip!

Below are the GATR rig requirements for all rides.

The CB is mandatory,

as are safety items like seat belts, battery hold down, fire extinguisher, recovery hooks, and parking brake.

4wd and a jack are also required.

On a forest service ride, we will have plenty of straps and first aid kits, but we recommend everyone carry them.

Rig Requirements:
http://www.gatrailriders.com/GTRForums/index.php?action=pages;sa=2

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT FOR ALL GATR RIDES:

1. CB that operates properly with clear transmission and reception (***See note below)

2. Functional Parking brake or Line Lock

3. Tow strap (minimum 2"/20,000lbs, can be bought for +/- $20)

4. Jack (tall enough to change your own tires)

5. Fire extinguisher (must be secured and easily accessible; mandatory for certain ORV parks)

6. Seat belts/restraints for all passengers

7. Recovery hooks or D-rings front & rear.  (Cheap Idea:  http://www.stu-offroad.com/guards/gas/tj_hooks.htm)

8. Battery hold-down (OEM or after-market, bungy cords are not acceptable)

9. Emergency Contact Form (***See attachment)

10. Functional 4WD is REQUIRED. No 2WD vehicles are permitted.

11. Small First Aid Kit.

12. Spare Tire (on rig or on site)

*** The properly tuned CB radio is how we communicate on the trail systems.  From time to time, we cannot see or hear each other and this is where our CB's come in handy.  If you are on a budget, you can pick up one of the best "budget" CB's on the market for around $59 (Uniden Pro510XL) or a Cobra for $49 at Walmart.  Try to get a cable only as long as you need and don't coil it.  Make sure you have a good ground, and get power straight from the battery to reduce noise.  Some staff members have SWR meters and are happy to assist with a tune at a time other than ride time.

Really looking forward to attending the ride as it will be my first one. The only down side is I don't have a spare yet and neither does my brother who was really wanting to join in as well. Just wondering if this is must on this ride?

GATR rules say you need to have a spare.

GATR staff and CORE members will do anything and everything to get a fellow wheeler off the trail if he is prepared and meets the requirements.  I've seen it many times.  If you ride without a spare, and have a flat, you cannot expect help from others than have come prepared for a great day in the mountains with their friends and/or families.  We leave spares at camp when we are at a park, but this is a long 1 way trip.

For everyone, we have these rules for good reasons.  We will be a long way from help many times during the day.... almost all of the time.  Folks are bringing their rigs and families for a fun day in the mountains, and while things do happen, it is how you are prepared that makes all the difference in the world.

That said, a used spare can be purchased for a portion of what a new tire and wheel cost.  Just needs to hold air and be a roller to get you off the trail and home.  Every used tire place sells them, so grab one, or two, this week.  Money well spent.
