The question is how long before it loses its real frame and goes to a unibody design? Probably will happen with IFS, but not many people are discussing that. That would truly turn it into a pile of shit. Who cares bout the suspension and axles, there will probably be bolt on SAS from every supplier, and the stock axles blow anyways. Hopefully it can maintain a full frame to bolt all the goodies onto or it may become a topless XJ.

It appears to have a full frame, but that is from my limited inspection of the picture...and it surely could be unibody.  My hope was that it stay full frame.

I'll bet money that it will still have solid axles.

There have been several industry articles posted from chrysler about this. They are going to have to make several changes to meet the up coming federal fuel mileage requirements. The biggest thing they have to contend with is trying to make a cracker box aerodynamic is impossible. The other is weight. They will probably have better luck shedding weight than they will making it more areo. That's where IFS comes in. Weight savings.

If they go IFS I will lose all respect for jeep. That is a complete sellout move!! Find other ways to lose weight.

It would be solid to see someone like Toyota release a solid axle Offroad vehicle to slap Jeep in the face.

Manley already said they won't change the solid axles.

I'd love to see land rover reintroduce the Defender 90.  But it can't cost $70k.

My son has a 2001 Land Rover discovery with the 4.0 L engine and it's sitting at my shop with a blown cylinder liner. Apparently the engine is aluminum with steel liners and after about 65-70,000 miles the liners, after many heat and cool cycles, will start moving up and down till the seal blows and coolant inters the cylinder causing a overheating problem. The fix is to pull the engine have all the block bores re sized and new steel liners pressed in. Then the heads have to be counter bored to accept a new sealing cap to keep the new liners from moving. Very pricey so I hope they have a better engine design now

Seems like they could just shed the weight by selling them with no doors, no top and 10" wheels then offering free upgrades to doors, tops and MTs at the time of purchase.... //;D//

They have to meet safety requirements, such as door beams...but I like that line of thinking.   //BEER//

Bear, I have always wanted a D90, but those damn things have not dropped in value since they were originally sold...similar price retention of an H1.   I have not kept up with Land Rover, but in the past, just like Jaq, you didn't buy them for longevity :)

Oh well, Jeep will not mess up the Wrangler...right?   //:hlp//
