Installed IRO front LAs PICs...
« on: March 13, 2008, 12:17:40 PM »
A friend of my teaches auto mechanics at Dekalb tech.  Went over there yesterday afternoon and installed my used Iron Rock Offroad Long Arms.  Took some pics during the install...

Man.. that thing just got a whole new look.  Nice job!  So what's the estimated time we'll see that thing on a trail again?

I don't know.  I was going to try to make it to Aetna but now it's not looking good.  I definitely want to get back out there.  I want to get some 32s next and then I will be done for a while.

Does anyone know if that 4x4 shop in Snellville has an RTI ramp?  I think it's called 4x4 Customs or something and it's right on 78 close to 124.

looks like a decent design. any other pics of the frame mounts/t-case drop? It looks like a hybrid of a couple designs... but it seems to be a good setup. you plan on welding some points of the new "subframe"?

I chose the Rubicon Express LA Upgrade for my ZJ because of all the heavy steel that bolts... and welds... to the unibody. I um... kinds messed up the LCA mounts by using RE XJ drop brackets wihtout braces.

<--- dumbass

Anyway... it rode great. ;D
when I did it, i opted also, not to install the passenger front UCA to the main link. I cant comprehend how (essentially) tieing the long arms to the axle and not allowing for true tortion equates to a very capable system. Good to see someone putting a kit out that takes that line of thought. first time i ever heard of them, though. what can i say... i live a sheltered life. work, sleep, work, sleep, sleep, work, work, work, work...  :o

There's not a whole lot of selection for long arm kits for the WJ.  It's pretty much Rock Krawler (bad rep with WJ guys), Claytons Mfg, and Iron Rock.  I like the "Iron Y" design where you get rid of the pass control arm.  It's supposed to articulate quite nicely with almost nothing to bind.  I will hopefully find out soon.

I don't plan on doing any welding.  At first I thought I would want to but once I saw how the control arm brackets tie into the crossmember, and the nut plates work, I have no worries about them.  The front and rear arms, brackets, and hardware weighed almost 75 lbs.
