Lowering Fuel Prices

Copied from another forum.  Lets give it a try and see if it works.

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer, and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.19 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How?

Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas p rices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =00) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reach es the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days !!!I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!Ac ting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Keep it going.

Well i dont buy from those companies anyway so I am all good.

To me, if we want lower prices, we have to lower demand. This means carpooling, public transportation, planning your trip of errands to do the least bit of driving. This also means if you don't NEED the F250 don't get it, i you have a DD instead of your 11 mpg Jeep or Truck (Daniel) drive the DD even if it isnt "cool". I know this all sucks but even like this post above or the "dont buy gas for one day" stuff, we have to take a hit ourselves to fix this problem.

I carpool with my father 3 days a week to work. O i cant stand his driving, it scares the shit out of me big time and i spend most of the ride looking at the floorboards BUT I do it because 3 days of not driving the Jeep saves me roughly 3/4 a tank or a little more which is around 12.3 gallons a week or 49.2 gallons a month. Also Megan now drives home more than I drive down to Columbus. Her Liberty is getting about 22 mpg highway where I get about 15 mpg if I drive like a grandma. It only saves about 6 gallons in the trip there and back but we also drive the Liberty around town and keep the Jeep parked which i figured saves atleast another gallon or 2. So between carpooling, megan coming home once and driving her Jeep I figure in a month i save about 57 gallons over what I use to do. All of these SUCK but I do it because it saves gas and lowers my demand on gas some.

I read an article one time that said parking where you can pull forward out of your space instead of backing out can save a lot of gas when you look at the big picture. With fuel injected vehicles in todays world it takes more gas to idle 9 seconds or longer than it does to start your car so if sitting for more than 10 seconds, turn it off.

Nah.. I've come to accept the fact that I'm a Ranger on a Jeep site.. it's all good.   ;)

And dont be late to BP saturday morning

IF I'm late.. it'll be justified, I'm good at that.

And in the mind of the majority, what is offroad... Jeep.  Therefor, "offroad" is the politically correct way to say that something is oriented toward one thing, in this case Jeeps, without causing such a ruckus among the offroad minority (anything else).   ;D

This plan has been out for a while and to no avail. If we stop buying from Exxon Mobil, then the other gas stations will have to raise their prices to compensate for increase demand. Then all of a sudden, Exxon Mobil has the cheapest prices. Jeremy is right, the only way to lower price is to lower demand. You lower demand by using less fuel or using alternate fuel sources. The only other way to lower prices without lowering demand is some kind of change in technology. Every single person is going to stop driving a truck, suv, or Jeep so that means that something has to happen on the supply side. Either a new refinery is built or some kind of new drilling technique.

I guess this Econ. class I'm taking now is finally paying off.

I use peddal poer in the summer. No use driving to work when I live 1.5 miles from my job. I refuse to pay that much for gas. I think it will be up to 4 by summer with no relief after that. Who knows where it will top out?
I've grown tired of this.

so here is the latest email I have recieved. The ideas make sense from a phsyics standpoint...

"TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don't know what you people are paying for gasoline.... but here in
California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my
line of work is  in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some
tricks to get more of  your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we
deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.
One day is  diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and
premium grades.  We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of
16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the
ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations
have their  storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground
the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so
buying in the afternoon  or in the evening....your gallon is not
exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and
the temperature of the gasoline, diesel  and jet fuel, ethanol and other
petroleum prod ucts plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the
service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a
fast  mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three
(3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on
low speed, thereby  minimizing the vapors that are created while you are
pumping. All hoses at  the pump have a vapor return. If you are
pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank
becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the
underground storage tank so you're getting less  worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF
FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in
your  tank the less air occup ying its e mpty space. Gasoline evaporates
faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal
floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and
the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service
stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature
compensated so that  every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage
tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline
is  being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick
up some f the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.  Hope this will
help you get the most value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS!

WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It
might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We
should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into
the coffers of Saudi Arabia.  Just buy from gas companies that don't
import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up
the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my
family, and my friends.

I thou ght it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies
are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle
Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell........................... 205,742,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels

Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels

Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels

Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo gas is from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans. If
you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!
(oil is now $90 - $100 a barrel

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Sunoco..................0 barrels

Conoco.. ......... .......0 barrels

B P/Phillips............0 barrels

Hess.......................0 barrels

ARC0....................0 barrels

If you go to Sunoco.com, you will get a list of the station locations
near you.

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and
each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are
importing.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas
buyers. It's really simple to do.

I'm sending this note to about thirty people.  If each of you send it
to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)...and those 300 send it to at least
ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) .. and so on, by the time the message
reaches the sixth generatio n of people, we will have reached over THREE
MILLION consumers !!!!!!!  If those three million get excited and pass
this on to ten friends  each, then 30 million people will have been
contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it ..... THREE HUNDRED
MILLION PEOPLE!!!"

The "ple dans" to orchestrate millions of people not to pump gas one day or stop going to certain gas stations are all just fairy tales. The only REAL way to lower oil prices is to drill for more oil in our own goddamn country and build more refineries. Unfortunately, the 70's and idiotic environmentalists put an end to that. Oh well, someday we will tap the rest of Alaska....someday.
