wanted to introduce myself. Just bought a new '14 Willys Unlimited.
it is a family vehicle first, but we are interested in getting up in the mountains and exploring.
we took it up to amicalola falls for a picnic saturday, and went up to the church above the falls, and then down what I think was nimblewill gap road for a while, until we came to a fork in the road. to the right was a 'road closed' sign. took the fork to the left, eventually came to another fork, and access to the appalachian approach trail. to the left it went up a hill, to the right it went into a bunch of mud.
that is when is started raining really hard, so we quickly learned how to put the top back up and then came back out the way we went in. I THINK the muddy road to the right was nimblewill gap, but I'm not sure, and I didn't want to get stuck up there all alone anyway. the only road closed sign was on a very well graded road that I think might go to the hike inn.
I'd be curious to know exactly where we were and if that road to the right actually goes out and is legal. I'm sure we were legal where we were, there were a few people camping back there with trucks.
hope to meet up with some of you sometime and get to learn the ropes of this sport.
