Post Ride - best practices tips and tricks
« on: July 19, 2014, 07:39:22 PM »
We all go through checklists before rides, but I want to hear about what people do after rides.

Do you have any old tricks, products, or whatever that you use to make cleanup easier or more effective?

I've run a sprinkler under the jeep to loosen up unwanted mud. I'm getting better at checking torque specs.

I don't think I have anything special or unique. I just clean the Jeep to reveal body damage and make working on it easier, give it a good once over for loose jam nuts, bent brackets, leaks, rock love, and I'll check my tires to make sure I don't have a leak or any crap in the bead like dirt or tree branches.

After that I'll give it a pat on the hood and tell it I love it. Or flip it off and call it trailer trash.

I swear by "Grease Lightning" at Home Depot for cleaning the stubborn red clay stains off the tires. It is fantastic.  I also use my pressure washer after each ride and get everything underneath.

Wash it down if I plan to do some work under the frame, otherwise I go surfing for replacement fenders, a roll cage, and suspension seats.  It's a ritual, but some day soon I will not have to search for so much.

I also surf the web for a cheap built 1-ton TJ with a perfect body, LS series engine, and Reds/Treps.

Yes, also convince myself and my wife of all the obstacles I could climb if I only had ________.

Also, the pressure washer has saved me several rolls of quarters.

My crawler is also my DD. Usually any problems will show up at highway speeds on the way home. I do clean the dirt and dust out with a Swiffer brush.
As most of the rides we go on are during the summer, I have the wife look me over for ticks and such. They can get into places I cant see.

Pressure wash with purple power. Then hand wash and vaccumme.  Depending on my mood, a black rattle can on the axle tubes.

My pre-ride work helps with my post ride work. I use a paint pen to mark all my important bolts after I give them a proper torque. After a ride, I wash the body, pressure wash the undercarriage and then give a visual inspection of all my bolt marks, re torquing those that may have shifted/loosened.

I check out my wheel weights to see if any have fallen off or been knocked off.

I also usually pull my wheels after a trip, check torque on the spacers and then reinstall wheels to torque.

Also, driving the rig on the road will give you some feedback for anything bent or tweaked

Nice tip there on marking the bolts.

After I shed a few tears about new scratches and dents, I pressure wash the Jeep and drop all the dirt into the street in front of my house to let everyone know how awesome our weekend was.

Air up everything precisely, clean the dust out of the dash and console, clean dust off the inside and outside of the soft top, reorganize the tools and safety gear, plan what bills I gotta pay to repair anything  //;D//, thats all I got at my level.
