No longer a Virgin
« on: August 13, 2014, 02:42:36 PM »
I finally got to take my JK out off roading for the first time ever.  The trails had some mud and there were a few hills. I did not know if the bottom of the pits had some deep ruts or and if they had rocks in them. Since I was solo, my son and I took it real easy. There were a couple of areas that pulled the jeep side to side  and at a uncomfortable angle. Once I pulled my draws out of my clenched cheeks we did it again. There were a few ponds that I avoided. The best thing there was a real nice hill that was about 30 feet long and had approximately 40-50 angle. I went up and down it a couple of times and the Jeep handled it like I was on the road. I am officially hooked.
I Have the CB Radio hooked up but I think I need a better antenna, I ordered a 2.5 budget boost, 2 inch wheel spacers and the exhaust spacer. Im waiting for my tow strap to come in the mail. Now all I need  Hi Lift Jack, But that is going to have to wait. The wife is getting a bit annoyed with all this cash I am dropping. (wait till I get a real Lift Kit and will anyone let me sleep on their couch for a few days till she cools off?)  //smoke//

Now I know this is nothing new to what you guys do but I hope I can get some time with you all on the trails and learn from you all.

Is this a legal wheeling spot? Sure sounds like it is not. We do not condone wheeling in areas of construction, powerlines or easements. You have been informed  //rtft//
I've grown tired of this.

Legal ? I am not sure if it is or isn't. There was no construction or power lines. Just trails with fresh tire tracks. I did not intend to violate any rules or laws however, I will not go there again until I know for sure. //salute//

If you don't own it or have written permission and its not a designated road or off road park, it's illegal and you are trespassing.

Most of us have done it before we learned what is right.

Join us on a ride.

Yeah, I just mentioned a place that was illegal ( I has no idea it was) and my post dissapered.  Then I put two and two together. Now I know.
It's done for a good reason not just for the hell of it and nothing personal.

Summit racing has a 48" highlight jack fir $60. I was there a couple weeks ago

I knew the feeling of dying to test it out on some trails. Once you go on a few rides with the club, you won't even think about those spots. I'd rather go on a real ride to a park once every 2 months, than side spots every other week.

To be clear, the club does a ride every month, if you are CORE.  You are also encouraged by some to setup rides to parks or trails that do not conflict with scheduled GATR rides.

If you are in east Paulding, you have two nice parks (Morris Mountain and Choccolocco; Morris is better than Choccolocco, IMHO) within 1.5 hours of you...likely within an hour of you.

Congratulation on getting that WOW feeling of
off roading.......but as everyone has stated be
careful. It's all about educating people. Those
type's of areas look inviting but are a double edge
sword! Surrounding business and neighbors may
see a 4x4 leaving the area or see mud tracks on
the road. People will post on facebook over and
over their pictures at those places.Sooner or later
someone will throw some trash out. All this
combines in the bad reputation that most people
associate with off roading.

The answer is to do what you have done.....
Join a responsible club. Get involved in the forums.
Learn about the sport and the places that are legal.
There are some great parks we go to and have more
fun than you can imagine! BUT they are getting fewer
every year. By going to these places we support their
business and the local economy surrounding them.

Start off slow with some forest service roads rides
Then join us to one of the parks. Yes most are a distance
away. All the place we go has easy to hard trails and
obstacles. You and your rig will learn and grow together.

All of us has started at some point and have learned as we
go. The problem (good) is that vicious cycle of wanting
to do more with a bigger badder rig…..when Santa wears
brown instead of red….your hooked.

I see what you all mean. Once again I was not trying to do anything illegal. I did ask on the forums if anyone was off and wanted to ride but there was no answer. I will not go there again. I do have some questions about feathering the clutch when on a hill. and how to improve control. would anyone mind contacting me by phone, I would appreciate it.
