May be getting into something more trail friendly
« on: December 05, 2014, 05:04:51 PM »
So after about 7 months of trying to sell my Jeep, I'm hoping I have a solid deal about to go through. The Jeep may be heading out to Cali in the coming weeks. This has left me with a question of what to replace it with. If I learned something with this Jeep it was- 1) Never buy a brand new vehicle and take it in the woods 2) Let someone else take the hit on the major $$ build items and pick them up for pennies on the dollar. If the deal goes through soon enough, I may be pulling the trigger on this built FJ out in Texas. Long travel front, icon piggyback shocks, Marlin "leftie" crawler case, full skids, "tummy tuck", 35" pitbulls, 40,000 lumens of sunlight, and the most important part- not a perfect paint job that I am afraid to take through the woods. I guess if I get this I will actually have to learn to drive lines instead of steamrolling over things with the 42's. Hopefully I will be able to come out with you guys more if I get this.

Oh yeah, the stickers would be coming off....

Interesting choice, how much suspension up/down travel does it get?

Enough for where I would want to go. I can't remember the exact number but it somewhere in his 100 page build thread. I am wanting to say 12 inches of travel in the front and 16-18 inches of travel in the rear if memory serves me correctly. I could be way off though. It's been all over Moab so that's good enough for me.

IFS front axles can pose serious recovery problems if they break far away from your trailer.

For what we do I'd get a solid front axle.

Thats cool it sure does look great as it is setup now.  2 FJs in the club will keep the Lytles's company!  Aside from that Will can't say you drive a rock limo, or maybe he will anyway.

They seem wide. Too lazy to google it though.

Lesson #3 is that nothing beats a wrangler and people usually figure that out when the drive another platform.  Good luck but since you have had a taste of the true blood, it's almost certain that you will find your way back to the wranglers.

Haha. That may be true but if I got another Wrangler it would be so similar that I would always be comparing it to my current Jeep and I really don't want that. Need a change of pace. I'll drink the water from the other side for a while.
