What size Hi Lift?
« on: December 17, 2014, 08:57:46 AM »
I need to buy a Hi Lift jack but not sure what size to get.  I only have about 4" above the roofline of the Jeep to get into the garage.  I already have the Hi Lift mount for the ACE rear bumper.  Will a 42" Hi Lift work for a 2D JK with about 3" of lift and 35's?

Another question - is a Hi Lift jack even needed?  I've been doing some reading and it sounds like people don't actually use them too much.  Hmmm

They do get used quite a bit.  Mine is the 48" version, but I've never had to use the entire bar.

For situations where you need to remove a tire on the trail a bottle or floor jack can be easier to use, but if you carry a ratchet strap to strap the axle then the hi-lift works just as well; and it's more flexible for other situations.  And the handle makes a good breaker bar (they used mine at Gulches to help fix Clark's breakage).

The 42"  will work fine.

matter of fact, we used one Saturday to get Ben's spare on when the bottle jack wouldn't hold in the area he was working.

I have used mine as well.

When you need it, you really need it.  I think it is a nice tool to have around.

I actually cut my high lift down to around 30 inches and just use straps on the axles to keep from having to lift up the jeep as far.
