Will you still use the 4L60 behind the 6.0? Isn't that the main drawback to a half ton chevy tow rig?
Most LCOG Builds are like a fat girl in Yoga Pants, just cause it fits doesn't mean it works...

Might be, I have 289k on mine and towed 10,000 a lot... over the Rockies at 267k.  A new one will go in with the mota.

Doug, why not find a 2500 that wants to give up its 6.0 and 4l80? wiring and computer are there.. no tuning issues.. better yet.. find one with an Allison and make it interesting  //SLAMIN//

Frame  couldn't handle the Allison.

I thought the 2500s had a bigger motor.

6.0 works with same harness, only need  simple program for 6.0 w/ 4l60e combo.  Everything bolts on.  Easy swap.
I want a 3 year/100k warranty on motor and trans.  No worries.

4l80e would like that 6.0 a lot better. It's the same thing as a th400 but has an OD. I have a built 4l80 running behind the 416ci.

4L80e is quite a bit larger and can cause fitting issues if the tunnel is too small.  I'd stick with 4L60e for bolt-in.

Honestly if your putting a new stock 6.0 in the place of the 5.3 it will be really simple for any good LS shop to flash your 5.3 pcm with the 6.0 information. If you got the extra $$$ I would put some long tube headers and y-pipe too. Maybe a tow cam if it will not void your engine warranty.

Thanks guys.  This is a 11 year old vehicle that will probably end up at a University in the next couple of years, and it's not a race car, so I should be good with a 5.3/4L60E.  Still exploring the 6.0 though.

I thought the 4l80 came with a 6.0 and the smaller trans with the 5.3. I'm not saying anything about racing, but the fact it will handle towing and engine power a lot better. A stock 6.0 with a tune and very mild cam could easily put down 400hp. Not sure on fitment but I would always prefer a bigger trans instead of working a smaller trans harder if it fits.

I know it would be awesome.  I just don't have a need for any of that unless it cost nothing.

im with Tripp all the way on this one.. the size difference cant be much. the older 1500s and 2500s were built on the same chassis.. I had a 2002 with a 6.0, 4l80 combo. I think a crossmember and a driveshaft would be all ya need, the lenth is the only size difference right Tripp? Not to beat a dead horse here..

Not sure without pulling a Google search and it's my bed time because I work 3rd shift now. The only concern I see would mainly be around the height difference or what small of one there is. It's nothing to shorten a shaft down and no need to buy a new one if it's a little longer.
