Millermatic 250x
« on: September 04, 2015, 11:26:55 AM »
Hey guys. I've got a question for some at home fabricators. Here at my work there upgrading their weld shop so I can get this Millermatic 250 for a steal, as in FREE.  //;D//

Currently It's wired for 3 phase but the weld supervisor told me he could switch the leads around inside and put a different plug on it for me to make it single phase.

In the house I just built I wired the basement already for potentially buying a 220v welder so I already have a 50A plug. Is this welder going to be to much for my needs? I don't see myself ever welding anything over 3/8". Probably never thicker than 1/4" but I say 3/8" because you never know if the scrape blade for the tractor or something needs fixing. Would I be better off trading it on CL or somewhere for a smaller 220v welder or should I stick with this one. Space is also a factor and this thing is huge haha.

 //cheers2//

Most LCOG Builds are like a fat girl in Yoga Pants, just cause it fits doesn't mean it works...

For free, it's perfect! I don't have experience with that exact welder, but if you can wire it for your existing plug it's definitely worth trying out. Should be plenty powerful for the big stuff, and as long as you can turn it down far enough that you're not blowing holes in sheet metal I think you'll be ok.

Worst case scenario, give it to me and I'll make sure that it goes to good use  //SLAMIN//

Haha that's what I was wondering will I be able to turn it down enough not to burn right through body panels etc.

My friend has one. It has a jumper inside to run 220 or 480.
