at the most a 31" is the biggest. right now i have 29" A/T that i would like to keep.

With that size I'd stick to the stock 3.55s. That's assuming that you have a automatic transmission.
Do you have ABS?  If so, you have a Dana 35. You be better off swapping that out for a 8.25. You'll never have to worry about breaking either axle with the 31's all the way up to 33s & in some cases 35s.

i believe its an 8.25 already. im just wanting it 4wd

The 8.25 has about a 4 inch flat spot on the very bottom of the diff.
Or you could open the hood & see if you have ABS. No ABS, no Dana 35.

You can get the front axle at any Pull A Part for around $200.
