What kind of shooting and distance are you trying to do. That makes the difference on optics

Honestly, anything over 150 yards, at this point im not interested in. this is for home defense, mainly, and maybe some hunting.. at somepoint i may want to go 200+ but at this point, not any time soon. im guessing...

Your in the middle. Under 100 yards you can use a red dot over 100 my opinion go with a scope. You can use red dots but you would probably want a magnifier. My opinion on that it is something else to add bulk and then you also have to rely on batteries for everything to work. Look at scopes 1x4x24. Vortex makes a nice Viper PST. Also make sure you know what your buying if the scope is set up MOA or MRAD. All that depends on how good at math are you to use the scope correctly.
