Ok, test complete, plus a ton of pictures now.  My drain plug did not leak, but without any doubt the top will leak if turned over.  I'd be surprised if it held ice super long since the main part of the walls are only about 1".  The handle is held in with one bolt on each side.  The top has a nice feature where it has a position the would resist wind blowing it closed since it takes a bit of force to overcome the indent when nearly fully open.

I'm going to keep it.  The water leaking out the top doesn't concern me for my application.  I never tested the Pelican for that, so it may leak too...IDK.

The Pelican 20 does not have a drain plug.  Wish I thought about that when I bought, it's the only thing I don't like about it so far.

will you test the lid leaking?  I filled mine almost to the top, closed to lid with the pull down things, and then laid it on its side (I tried both sides since the gasket union was closer to one side than the other, but I don't think that's where it leaked.)

Well I needed to pull it out of the Jeep and wipe it down anyway. I missed the discussion on leaks but here goes.

 It definitely drips out the back.  The ends of the gasket leave a small gap and water drips out when laid on it's back.

I'm sure this could easily be remedied with a little silicone.  Not an issue for me as there is very little chance of it tipping over.  If it did I have bigger problems like the Jeep not being on all 4's.

Thanks for doing that test.  Does it only leak when tilted on the back?

It would be interesting to see the results of a Yeti for the same test.

I should do one more test with my igloo where I release the drain with the lid closed and see if it affects the flow rate.  I know my Pelican will drain much slower if the lid is closed.
