Diesel and Gas apparently don't mix!
« on: September 11, 2016, 08:18:21 AM »
Sitting on the couch last night watching the news.  We were discussing the Choco trip when Kris happened to catch a segment on the news.  Apparently  the Racetrac where we had just filled up our truck with Diesel had accidentally filled their diesel tanks with gasoline.  It happened the Friday before Labor Day and they didn't catch it until Monday.  We filled up (100 gallons) on Saturday.  Dept. of Agriculture says it's about a 50/50 mix.

The story: http://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/204042844-story

Apparently a tow truck has already lost it's motor due to the mixup.  I've probably run about 20 gallons of the shit through the motor.  And have about 80 gallons in the tanks.  Last night I was thinking that we'd drain, change the filters, and rock on.  From my research this morning, people are talking about changing injectors, pumps, lines, and turbos.  It also sounds like it's around $25 a gallon to dispose of the contaminated fuel!

Thankfully, Racetrac has acknowledged the issue and is dealing with it on a case by case basis.  I have to call them on Monday to see when I'm getting my check!  //LMAO//  Fortunately, the truck was already scheduled to go in to the shop on Tuesday to have the vacuum pump replaced.  "Hey guys, can I add just one more little thing to the list!?"  //LMAO//

Hopefully, we can get this taken care of before the weekend!

Uhh..jeez.  in hind sight, maybe they should implement a square peg (diesel), round hole (gas) connection to reduce this chance.  I wonder how many times the low octane gas gets put in the premium gas holding tanks.

I'd probably have it checked out by a diesel mechanic, and still try to get a warranty from Racetrac in case it breaks down, down the road.   Let us know the rest of the story, once this situation is resolved.

My mom had a car the dealer claimed was messed up due to bad fuel.  She always bought gas at Quik Trip and they have the same satisfaction guaranteed claim as Racetrac.  They claimed it wasn't their gas that caused the problem, but paid for the repair.

I'll hopefully know more tomorrow morning.  I'm kind of waiting to see how they deal with it before I lose my mind.

We use to put gas in our over the road trucks from time to time,of course it wasn't a 50/50 mix but a little bit would help clean the injectors from time to time. I hope they get it straight for you Marc

It seems to be running alright... It did seem a bit lack luster when we were towing last weekend.  I just figured it was because it was sitting for awhile.  I'll call them shortly and see what they say.  It sounds like this happens all the time from what I've been reading.

Clark I have on occasion when the truck seemed a little sluggish. I put Lucas injector cleaner in it at least once a month. About a year ago it kept clogging fuel filters, took it down to local Dodge dealer, diesel mechanic there has been only one to work on it since it was new, found sand in the fuel lines. Did a complete fuel system flush, been running great ever since. Not sure where the sand came from.
