whats so bad about the 'luminum d44s?

Little aftermarket support since they only came in V8 Grand Cherokees from 96-04. Because the center section is aluminum, the bearings can go out faster. And it had c-clips. But GC guys like it because it bolts in, retains ABS (and speed sensor on WJs) plus it has 30 spline, 1.25" axle shafts, a thicker ring gear then normal 44s, and a larger diameter pinion gear (same as 8.8, almost as large as D60).

Do Work 93 YJ on here had an 8.8 with 4.88's for sale a week or so ago, he is going to 1 tons, not sure if it's sold yet.
