I regretted leaving as soon as I hit the highway. Never again...
The trip was fun for me. Peeled back the stock 1978 rear dif cover before lunch, and swapped out for a newer one over lunch. A ujoint cap walked almost all the way out, and we (steve, really) got the cap back in with a new retaining ring on the trail. I need to upgrade to the full circle ones.
Cleaned the jeep today in preparation for new tires, and found out I almost had a very bad weekend: a wire shorted out! Melted the wire, loom, and parts of other wires. Luckily it was very thin wiring and burnt up without damaging much else. A hot wire for the front running lights got pinch and worked it's way through the rubber cover, resulting in some intense melting. The wiring will be redone as necessary, this time going through the fuse box.
I took maybe 4 pictures. They'll follow in another post.
