Where were you on 9/11? #neverFORGET
« on: September 11, 2017, 09:37:34 AM »
I was home sick with the flu. When my wife called saying a plane had struck the World Trade Center. I turned on the TV, I forget what channel. I saw the 2nd plane hit. It was shocking. It still is. I will never forget that day. We are not Democrats and Republicans. We are Americans.

I was in the process of submitting an application for a consulting gig in Philadelphia.  Wife came into the home office to tell me a plane had hit a building.

I got to work and got some project stuff done.

I was working from home that morning and was scheduled to fly to SFO that afternoon for a sales meeting.  One of my team members called me and told me a plane hit the WTC.  Most of that day was spent tracking down members of my team as we had many people scheduled to fly that day.  A few got stranded as they were in transit, but fortunately everyone was safe.

I spent most of the day in shock, just sitting around with friends watching random news. Definitely one of the more memorable days of our lifetime.

Was sitting at my desk at work, listening to the radio... my then-wife was at home 8 months pregnant with my first son, Dakota.   We turned on a TV at work and I watched for an hour or two before I just decided to leave and be with my family for the rest of the day.  Still have certain images burned in my memory.

At that time our office was located in Upper Marlboro, which is close enough that we actually heard the plane hit the Pentagon. At the time we thought maybe a bomb went off somewhere. We were outside in the parking lot listening to what was going on in NY through a car stereo and then heard the Pentagon was hit. We had crews working there and at the Whitehouse. Crazy day, the day itself was not cool, but seeing and watching all of the fighter jets flying was pretty cool. They were flying low enough that you could see the letters on them.

I was working in Lauderdale with a fella from corporate/national accounts.

We went into a customers office early and they told us they were watching the news in the break room, that a plane had crashed into 1 of the twin towers, and we went in and saw the 2nd plane hit.  We all agreed we were under a terrorist attack.  We had a short meeting and headed out.

Our next meting was in downtown Lauderdale on an upper floor of a very tall building.  We began our meeting and the admins busted in crying and said that the 1st tower had fallen.  At this time the national accounts fella said his nephew worked in the tower, and he couldn't reach him.  He was lost.

My wife and kids were at the inlaws in the Tampa area so I headed back that way, and the national accounts fella drove a rental to New Jersey.

My cousins pilot was right seat in a USAir 757 over New York and saw the plane hit.
