Cutting the cord
« on: October 13, 2017, 10:24:09 AM »
I cancelled my dish subscription and the 11th was my last day of service. We have Netflix and Amazon prime already. I am thinking about signing up for Sling or Hulu. Sling has every one of the channels I watch except for Velocity.

Anybody else cut the cord?
Have any suggestions for streaming services?

I have a box called Kingpin that I bought a year ago. Paid $300 for it. We also have Netflix but hardly ever use it.

I'm using Sling on Roku Ultra, Roku stick, and Xbox one.  Watching sports mainly and outdoors channels so I think I'm paying $55 for it. Will most likely cancel after Football season but for now it's working pretty good for that and is <25% of my ATT bill I had.
What service are you using for internet and price?

I am cutting the cord with Sirius XM...the new radio being installed in the jeep won't have Sirius, it has Bluetooth so I can get other apps on the phone...in the beater DD I either listen to NPR or WSB or this other thing I recently rediscovered called Silence. Its very peaceful.

We have Directv and we use a combo of

Amazon Fires
Roku
Logitech GoogleTv w keyboards (old ones that still work but not some apps)

Sling
Netflix
Hulu

Slowly weaning everybody off of Directv and on to Sling

With the Directv APP you no longer need all those boxes so I'll be cutting those back at the lake and maybe get to none, especially after the clingons move out.  .

Been cable free for almost 4 months. Got a great over the air antenna and pick up all the major channels available. Walmart had it for under $40. As far as other tv programming I have netflix, hulu and amazon. I also have my sisters cable info for her dish service so I am able to get her cable and HBO, Showtime. I watch all of that on the tablet of laptop, phone but if I want to watch on the big screen I just plug the laptop into the tv. If you happen to have a playstation 4 or even a 3 I suggest trying out the PS vue tv service. You can do a free week trial. Very nice interface and all the major channels available for really good prices. So between all of that I will probably never go back to cable tv again.
I've grown tired of this.

We ditched cable more than 5 years ago... and don't have a OTA antenna.  I don't watch sports anymore.  The kids stream their shows on a Roku and don't ever see commercials which I love.  My wife watches some shows on Netflix...
