To be labeled a Bourbon it only has to be made in the US with specific ingredient ratios.

Bourbon has to be 51% corn, can’t be more than 160 proof coming out of the still and ages for min 2 years in a virgin charred white oak barrel.  The Rye/Wheat and Barley content car vary.  There are other requirements that you can Google.

Bourbon in KY tastes different than the bourbon made in other states because the water is all naturally limestone filtered.

Does the limestone make it better?

Absolutely!

If you have Netflix, watch a documentary called Bourbontucky.  Fred Noe, son of Booker Noe and great grandson of Jim Beam tells about people always wanting him to taster their “bourbon”.  He says, that is a fine tasting whiskey, but it ain’t bourbon.  LOL.

There are some non-KY (no Clarke, not that KY) bourbons that are made where the water is filtered in limestone.  One that I recall is Widow Jane which is made in NY but the water in that part of NY is filtered in nature by limestone.

Went to Roswell Beverage after work. They have cases of Buffalo Trace if you can't find any.

Best $20 bottle of bourbon you'll ever have

First time I ever asked for it at a liquor store, they had it. Never again.

You didn’t like it?  It’s a wheated (not rye) bourbon.  Pappy is also a wheated bourbon but aged MUCH longer.

Never again meaning I’ve never seen it again. Good stuff for sure.

Ah, cool.  Great bourbon for $20.  They had a few cases at Roswell Beverage a month ago.

Thanks for making me less ignorant.  I thought it had to be made in Kentucky!

Good catch by Mike about the barrel and aging requirements, too. But the part about Kentucky is a common misconception.
