2019 Required Equipment rule change - trail communication

(1/1)

tcdawg:
Currently:
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT FOR ALL GATR RIDES:
1. CB that operates properly with clear transmission and reception

Due to changing technology and many members testing out the longer reaching and clearer communicating "race radio" style units and finding them to fit our needs better, the GaTR rule number 1 will be revised as follows:

1.  Consumer Radio or "Race Radio" that operates in the FRS/GMRS Frequencies of 462.5625 to 467.7250

There are a number of brands and styles of radio that will fit this requirement. Amazon has a large selection from handhelds to permanent mount units.

Some info on the FRS frequencies:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Radio_Service

Yes!  To operate legally you will need a GMRS license.

Good info here:  https://www.buytwowayradios.com/gmrs-fcc-licensing

Instructions on how to get the license here:  https://www.gmrs1900.net/blog/93-tutorials/122-getting-your-gmrs-license

We have a number of folks here who have the GMRS license already as well as a HAM license and can help with questions as they arise.  This is great improvement to our on-trail communications...its like going from leaf springs to coilovers!!

DOUG:
Could you please add a condensed list here of the radios the members have with attributes, antenna, power grouped by the license required for each?  Makes it super easy to gear up for everyone that hasn't.

Is it extremely low cost and easy to comply with this requirement with a small handheld from Walmart or Amazon?

There is already a discussion thread with member setups - I suggest linking to it from here.
