Jku rubicon dead battery
« on: December 04, 2018, 04:22:01 PM »
Hey everyone? So I have been through two oem battery’s on my Jeep and have looked into the web and talked with my master tech on this issue. I have heard it’s either the remote start or fuses for a continuous draw even after my Jeep is off. I had the Jeep die while driving on busy school street and waited for 10 mins too start it as the volts were at 11.8-12.2 and 13.9-14.3, two cops showed up and asked what was up. Lucky they were nice. What’s your ideas as for as replacing for a none water base optima battery or send to dealership ?  Wish there was a recall on this.

I'm guessing that you you need  to have the alternator checked. But the voltage regulator could be on the fritz. If like a TJ, it is in the computer.  I've never had a vehicle die due to a bad battery but I'm not sure how the JK reacts in that situation.

Supposedly a car can run without a battery once cranked, but a bad alternator won't work.  I'm ignorant and just spouting things I've heard.  ASE certified BIG Mike should be able to help.

I'd have the alternator checked out.

I believe advance can test your alternator too. That’s where I’d start

Old school way is to have the vehicle running & disconnect the NEGATIVE terminal.
If it stays running the alternator is good.
If it dies after a few seconds (30 or so) it's a bad alternator.

And you can test for a parasitic draw

While running, disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable. If it stays running the alternator is good. If it dies after a few seconds, the alternator is bad.

I know that Clark was going to jump in, but he forgot to turn on the A/C on.  Or just go by Advance Auto

Alt,starter is okay but battery failed all test. I’m not putting another lead battery in. I have always disliked the water fill battery’s since I took my automotive battery class in college. What’s a recommendation Odyssey or yellow top ?
