New toys
« on: March 10, 2023, 12:47:31 PM »
I've been really into shooting the last year and bought a few new toys.  Changed my EDC from a G43 to a S&W Shield Plus.  Picked up a Walther PDP 4" 9mm in November.  Got a Tisas 1911 Commander in 9mm last month.  I'm pretty impressed with the Tisas.  Made in Turkey but exceptional quality and materials.

Picked this up yesterday.  S&W M&P 2.0 10mm.  My first 10mm, but I see a 1911 10mm in my future.  First 15 rounds at 7 yards.

Nice full size pew pew.

I had many different calibers but sold/traded them off to only have .22, 223/556, 9mm & 38 special sue to their very high popularity & availability.
Do you not mind the the 10 mm is an odd ballish caliber?

I told myself for years I don't need a pistol that isn't 9mm or .45 ACP.  But I had a .380 and a .38 too.  I used to think the 10mm is oddball but it's gaining in popularity.  The .40 is really an oddball these days as not many people are buying them.  You can actually shoot .40's in most 10mm's.  The really stupid thing on my part, is I wanted a caliber that could take down any domestic predator including bear.  Why stupid? I probably won't be in a bear's environment more than a few times the rest of my life.  The 10mm with 230 grain hard cast is a round that has the penetration needed.  I was going to buy a Ruger Alaskan in .44 Magnum but decided on a high capacity gun.  It's a lot of fun to shoot.

I'm learning 1911 gunsmithing to have another hobby in retirement (102 weeks) which is why I'll probably buy a 10mm 1911.  I'll probably build a .38 Super one day as well when my skills are good enough.

Giggity

The gunsmith idea is not a bad one. Make money on something you enjoy when retired.

I used to shoot pins with a 10, I got recipes for a killer 200 grain load , moves about 1250 fps out of a 5” 1911 , ripped the pins off the table
