Hunting for the Wounded
« on: August 03, 2009, 05:17:18 PM »
I talked to Mike the owner of D-Town and he has said that he will put up the guys and wave the fee for the weekend after Thanksgiving. I am working with the Fisher House here on post to see if any of them would like to go. About 4-5 guys 1 day hunt and the next day free rental of a rhino to ride all day.
The only problem I am running into as of yet is getting the guns needed for the hunt. Dont need anything big.. shotgun... but a  muzzleloader would be best I think. since most of the blinds that they will be using is in an area of about a 100yds.. Mike will let these guys shoot either buck or a doe, he doesnt let anyone kill does from what I understand after talking to him.

Mike is also going to get into touch with the quad mag out of ATL and have them come out and do a photo shoot the day of the ride. I am going to get into contact with the tv show that does hunts with the wounded.. and see if they cant help out and maybe come up and tape it for their show.

Any help from you guys would be great.. the use of your muzzleloader, buck grunts, anything... just have it on stand by for the green light. I hope that the Army doesnt get in the way here.. its great to see these guys and gals get out and go back to enjoy the things they did before they were hurt.

Just let me know.

Mike

I may have a CVA 50cal you can use, I just need to check the condition, because it's been put up for about 3 years.

muzzle loaders are great for anything for up to 150yrds.. and they have the knock down power.. plus why use a .308 to kill a deer..

Why not a .308?

This must be a little diffrent then hunting mullys in the Nebraska pan handle. The deer watch you when you pull out of your drive way, and they keep a close eye on you during the 8 hour drive. You kind of need a big gun there, hand to hoof combat, does not happen very often.

I will help out if needed.  HU-RA
