Moving, GA to FL
« on: December 15, 2009, 11:49:23 PM »
In February I'll be moving to Dunnellon, FL. I know I've only been on one ride with this group but since I've got family here in GA I still plan on attending rides as I can.

If anybody has wheeling recommendations or clubs, let me know, please! I've found Mid Florida Jeep Club and a Florida Jeepers forum.

Also, where I'm moving to there's a LOT of land, so if anybody is thinking of attending Jeep Beach in May and needs somewhere to toss a tent out for free--let me know. Daytona will be about 1.5-2hrs from my place.

Look up Dan Wilson and his Wife at Wilsons4X4, they are across the state but he will be able to point you in the right direction and are very good people. Good luck on the move.

Mid Florida Jeep club is the main group in Florida, they are the ones that sponsor Jeep Beach! If your looking for places to ride in Florida then be prepared to raise your jeep 7 to 8 inches and install a snorkel........absolutely no rocks in here!

I hate to see you go. Maybe you should take a course in swamp boggin' 101, nothing but water and mud down there. Are you allowed to drive on the beach still in florida?

You can drive on Daytona Beach after you purchase a $5 day pass!

Man we drove all over that beach in a caddy a few years back had no idea you had to pay. It was in Jan. or Feb. and we drove through a surf event.

Thanks gents! I've been reading through some FL jeep forums--looks like the wheeling will be nothing like here in GA. I expected that though so no biggie. One thread cracked me up though because the jeepers were complaining about catching more fish and frogs with their jeeps than poles at a place called Richloam.

Story why I'm moving: cheap rent on a home in the country, my own place again(once my mother get's on her feet in a couple of months and divorce is final), and the main reason: acceptance to a nursing program at a school. It's so country where I'm headed they still have cattle drives! Not surprising to find watermelons, peas, peanuts, etc left on your porch or brought to you because somebody had extras. If you're out in the yard, people'll stop by for a BS session. I can't WAIT to get there.

Driving on the beach: If you're in town you'll get charged. However, north of Ormond Beach there's places you can drive where they don't charge.

Hate to see you go since we only got one ride with ya. But it's cool you landed your own place and the nursing program. My sister's taking some nursing classes. You're still gonna visit us here, right?

That's great about your sister and nursing. Tell her good luck from another nursing student! lol

I'll still be around here on the forum. Trail rides from time to time as well. I'll be sure to post up some pictures of any mischief my Jeep and I can find.   ;D

JeepnGal,

Congratulations on the nursing school {toast}

I just looked at where you are moving to and here's some info on places to ride:

You real close to to Ocala, which is where Hard Rock is located.
You are about 5 hours away from River Rock.
There's a place called Corbet close to Orlando.
There's a huge place south of you close to a town called Yeehaw Juntion. If I can remember the name of it I'll post it.

Lived just outside of Dunnellon for close to 13yrs, went to elementary school in Ocala. There is a lot of watermelon growing down there. Actually looking to move to Orlando area myself.

Have fun.
