2x4... wouldnt the harness have to be swapped as well on the 97+'s to convert to 4x4? thats still i good deal on what looks like a clean one...

I wouldn't think so, the 231 is all mechanical. What would cause a harness swap. I have a '96 2X4 that will one day be a 4X4. Enlighten me.

Well, your 4wd light wont be on. Ba ha ha ha! You could do a whole harness swap for an idiot light to tell you that youre in 4wd or you can just deal with it.  {hihi}

Hey! that light is very important! naw... whom i fooling... i didnt know if there was anything else on there or maybe the speedo ran off the transfercase instead of the tranny on the newer ones or maybe the shift pattern would be different if the computer controlled it differently as a 4x4... i know some vehicles are like that... this 95 i just picked up is the newest one ive messed with so i dunno... lol...
