I've never known any Nissan to have a front Solid Axle, even back in the 80's when all the cool rigs had a solid axle, Nissan's were IFS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope guys, Titans are IFS. It'll be kind of like when Seth did the diff swap in his H3.

Logan is right.  The Titan has IFS, but much beefier than the Xterra with options more more lift and travel.  Also increases the track by 5", so rear spacers are required to even it out.  There are options for SAS, but not Nissan OEM and a lot more than I want to tackle with a new truck (lots of fab work required).

IFS is tough for rock crawling.  I regret putting all that money into the front locker in that H3.

I agree having wheeled with Seth in his H3. While Ifs can be made to work anywhere, it is prohibitively expensive to make work well, especially here in the southeast, where traction isn't as readily available. I wish I was on a computer to link the climb that gave Seth so much trouble at Choccolocco.

Here it is.

Well, I can get a full 3" PRG upgrade kit for ~$1800.  I'm trying to get an estimate on the Titan swap, but I'm guessing a bit higher - could be wrong as many parts come of used/wrecked trucks.  I don't know about a front SAS, but I'd have to guess its quite a bit more than the full PRG kit, and doesn't do anything for the rear.

We aren't, and never will be, rock crawlers.  The same truck we offroad with is used for camping and taking the kids to daycare.  {hardlaugh}  I don't foresee a dedicated offroader for us, so it needs to do a bit of everything.

However, for you guys here is some hardware porn.  This guy is doing full axle swaps front and rear, plus other pieces.  Around $15k in parts.

Man what some people will pay for axles astounds me.  {popcorn}

But even without being a hardcore rockcrawler in the video I posted, it was just a simple hill, that my rig, a rubi on 35's, an open/open LJ on 33's and a ZJ on 31's had all made. Ideally one of us should have just tugged him over the root, but none of us expected parts to give out that easily.

That surprised me too. I bet we could climb that with ease.  But that is part of the reason for considering the Titan swap - tougher parts.

It's the second or third trail on the left going toward the back of the park from the bottom of the Boatramp trail. Have fun, it's steeper than it looks in the video. I need to go back for a revenge run on Teepee, it took out my radiator last time I was there.

I'm still pissed the one time I had to get winched was because of a rut. Not some rocks or steep spots or anything, just a stupid rut.
