Storm really tore the SW GA power grid up.
EMCs in Georgia are now reporting ~177,000 members without power.
Unlike recent storms, #HurricaneMichael severely damaged transmission assets in addition to distribution assets. Crews are discovering catastrophic damage to the electric infrastructure—the likes of which has not been seen in decades.
There are multiple high voltage transmission lines down as well as 68 substations out of service. With this much damage to both the transmission and distribution system, EMCs warn of extensive delays in total restoration.
A couple of EMCs have lost their entire distribution network.
Several EMCs in South and Middle Georgia are reporting 90 percent of their accounts in the dark, including MItchell EMC (Camilla), Oconee EMC (Dudley), Little Ocmulgee EMC (Alamo) and Colquitt EMC (Moultrie). Excelsior EMC (Metter) is reporting 50 percent out. Another co-op in Southwest Georgia (don't know which one) has estimated 400 broken poles.
