Depending on the condition of 93b after this winters closure, 93b might check you out! Lol! I went right before it closed for the winter and it was in real bad shape.

Last time we were there, Doug was the only one to make 93B without a winch. I can't really see how it can be much better. It has a lot of loose stuff and seems to always be wet. Should be fun. I'm still ironing out the details on whether I can go..

This is an "Open Ride" so you should be fine.  If not I might be able to drag you through whatever you can't do on your own.

Until a few weeks ago I was still running 30" GSA's and managed just fine on the couple of runs I made.  You will be impressed by your Jeep's stock capabilities.

I'm really going to try to make this trip, but I've got to diagnose the CEL that came on this morning....SOF 2.1... 05-03? I'd hate to go on a trip & break down.

Anyone camping?

Hey, glad your going to join the group.  The meet up place and address is in the 1st post, and should be easy to find.  Waffle House in Blairsville.   Show early if you want to eat.

You will be fine.  I have a two door on the stock Goodyear SRA's and was able to go everywhere the stock to mild guys went last year.

Thank you Andy for stepping up!   :D :D

If you want to, you could give out maps at the waffle house, and divide everybody up with a plan not to meet head on.   {no}  Only  way I know how to do that at Beasley is a delay between the groups on the same route.

Group 1 heads straight to 93B and Group 2 and 3 head for the 93C and 93D loop.  Same route.

I know the Allsouth boys can lead the 93B group.  And they all want revenge!

I hit beasley today and sheared the bolts off the rear yoke on 93D. I had to climb the hills backwards and descend them forwards to get back out.

Have they done any maintenance on the trails? How does 93b look?

MAN! Is Beasley that rough?  If it is that bad, we'll have to duck out of this one, I can't tear up my ride to work!

NO, it's not.  Most of the trails are easily done in a stock jeep.... unless it rains.   jeepj027 says he drove out on 1 axle.  As we said earlier, don't go if it has rained in the last few days.  They close it most of the time that it rains to protect the trails... and you.

If you find a slick hill, and you want to spin the tires at high rpm's, you can, but you might break something.  Take it slow and easy.  No need to do so with a group.  Someone can tug you/winch you if needed.

Looks like DRY weather now through the ride, so it should be as good as it gets for stock Jeeps.

I not too far from where you are, so if I go, we could meet up & caravan to the other meeting spot.

Waffle House on Holcomb Bridge & GA 400 (the one on the west side of 400) at 7AM sound good?

Sorry, I'm out. I've got walk for wishes that saturday.

Looking forward to this ride (my first).  I have a couple of questions to help prepare:
1.  Should I take the doors off my Jeep?  I want too but worried I will leave with the trail in my Jeep (new DD).
2.  How long do we think we will be on the trail?  I realize a lot of folks will be there but in general how long is the day.
3.  Planning to bring a cooler (minus the beer) once I figure-out how to secure it.  Anything else basic I'll need?

I of course plan to bring everything on the GA Trail Riders Required Gear list.

1. That's your preference.  My first or second trip I left my doors on and I now have a nice long scratch the length of my driver's side door.  Unless you're in some hardcore mud the inside won't get that bad, dirt mostly ends up on the door surround/b-pillar.

2. Usually we're out there until 5-6 give or take a bit.

3. Sounds good for a day trip! Make sure you have more than an 1/8 tank of gas {whack3} I always forget and stress out about it all day with the Jeep riding E.

I didn't mean to deter anyone from going. The trails aren't that bad. I was on a easier hill when it broke. The only really bad spots I found had bypass trails. I'm about convinced that a rock I didn't see hit the drive shaft but who knows.

Trail Rated
Only in a Jeep
Its a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand
The toughest 4 letter word on 4 wheels
Jeep. There's Only One
When I Die, Bury me in my JEEP. 'Cause it's never been in a hole it couldn't get out of!
My Jeep is not an SUV and your SUV is not a Jeep
My JEEP won a war, your honda mowed my lawn

If you feel like pullin cable and winching  for about 4 hrs go ahead. The first loose rock turn and rock ledge was pretty bad last time i was there. I gave it a shot in my tj with 33s and a rear locker and got nowhere. Just a bunch of hopping up and down, felt like the u joints was gonna snap any second so I quit. I could have winched on over it and went a lil farther before having to do it again but my defintion of wheelin aint winchin more than drivin! But I do plan on watchin the others try to pull cable on that steep, loose, rocky hill!

Back from beasley! Not the best wheelin trip. Beautiful weather, good trail conditions, but way too many rigs! The rover had its first and last wheelin trip! I'm sure someone has pics of the carnage. One thing though guys, It's not cool to leave another club member behind on the trail when they are broke down! Yeah he may have had range rover but thats no excuse to leave him behind. It will come back to haunt you later, trust me. If it wasn't for me a just a few other guys he would still be on the trail broke down.

Just got home from beasley safe and sound. I can't thank those of you Enough who stayed with me and helped get my tie rod straightened back out (twice) enough to steer.  I couldn't believe that stick went up under the truck and busted that thermostat..  And another thanks to the man and his wife in the white jeep that adjusted the tie rod enough to drive great on the pavement for 2 hours home. I was so happy to be off that trail system lol once you were in you were in so I just had to keep on going. Thanks again guys. Sorry I am terrible with names but I promise I remember your faces. That was my first time out and I must say the trails at beasley were a hell of a lot more difficult than I had imagined in my head. Over all I got in and out alive and home all in the same vehicle so over all it was a success. I'm not sure what the big who-hah was about it being a land rover that I kept hearing on the CB.. It's a $6500 truck, not a lamborghini on 44's. I'll have to scrounge up a lift, some tires, and some under armor before I try beasley again. Other than the break downs I thought the ole discovery did a great job in stock form. :) anyways, thanks again guys. My wife and kids appreciate it haha some plastic bumpers, a head light, and a tie rod bring up the damage report. I'll come better prepared next time and don't think twice about asking me for help after what y'all did for me today. See ya on the trails!

Wish I could have made it guys... I wasted this day working on a POS car at my house. I dunno if I will be able to make the next run in the XJ or not. Depends on if I can scrounge up some more parts in time. If its not ready, I'd love to ride with someone. I'm not a free loader either. I pay my way... Anyway, I'm a bit surprised to hear someone got left behind. Not cool. It could be you someday...  I just hope everyone had fun and no one got hurt.  I'm waiting on the pics, cause I know someone has a bunch....

Most of the problem is that some ppl gave the impression that Beasley is a wussy trail and for beginners. IT IS NOT! Yeah it may be a walk in the park for us veteran wheelers but for new guys with street tires and lil to no lift it is downright dangerous! We are very lucky no one got hurt today.

GARover, I don't think that anyone meant any harm joking about you having a Land Rover, The Jeep guys joke on the Fords and the Ford guys rib the Jeep guys...That's just how it is. No one meant any harm so don't get discouraged!  We never saw anyone left behind today but we were in separate groups...We definitely need to stick together and help each other out. The group that we rode with stopped a few times and we made sure that we didn't leave anyone behind.  We had a great time today (that was our first trip to Beasley) and we'll be back, that's for sure!  ;D

A good habit to learn is, keep a close watch on the guy behind you. If he has trouble then stop and back up to him and if you cant help him fix it quickly then strap him and get his rig to a safe place to do repairs and so that is not blocking the trail. Today when then tie rod bent the last time, There was 19 rigs in front of him and some one should have pulled him to a safer place to repair it. He was stranded in the middle of the road and on a steep hill with a spring head running under his rig. Its not safe to have to crawl under and work on a rig like that, it could jump out of gear or slide. Plus we had the trail blocked up for bout 45 mins and there was a few other riders that we didnt know that were having to wait cause there was no where to turn around or get by.

What happened to the rubicon?  No..  It didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. Just made me realize that I need to upgrade my weak links and come with more tools than my iPhone. I never once ever ever had the thought cross my mind that I would be doing trails that I could have, and almost did, rolled down with my kids inside. I will try to be more selective and prepared in the future. That almost roll over was all I could take for the day. The. I made it all the way that one hill and couldn't get over the big rocks at the top... So when I tried to back I ended up sliding half way down the hill backwards and all I could think was... Here we go again. haha thank god I stopped. That was when the snatch line pulled me up btw. I was just too afraid to back up anymore in fear of going all the way back down. Anyways, lessons learned.

Btw for any one curious.. What caused that near roll over at the beginning was right before I went down I saw how deep the ruts were and was afraid if I went in them ID just drag or get high centered. So I tried to go down on the side and the middle (tall) part of the rut and when I did the front driver tire dropped down in the rut pulling the front of the truck to the left and my rear wheel dropped on the right side turning me crooked.. The rest was history. I should have just started in the ruts and worst case just scraped all the way down.

But yeah.. I didn't see much of anything there that was okay for a stock rig unless it came dolled up from the dealer. Again.. I'm just thankful I made it out in one piece and no one got hurt. People I didn't know got under my truck in the mud, patched me up and put themselves into some shady situations to help me out. I don't know if they were club members or not but I they were awesome. I'll come back out for sure.

It sounds like a crazy ride.  I am surprised that it was so tough on the rigs.

My JK is bone stock on SR-A tires and made it everywhere the group went (I was with the stock/mild group).

Had a great time in my stock JK 4dr, even though I knocked the tops off of about 100 hoop-de-doos and got top centered a couple of times. In thought it was a great ride and I learned a lot about Jeeps. Mostly I enjoyed the people; what a great group. It was impressive to see everyone pitch in when the Rubicon and GARover got fouled up. I'm looking ofrward to the next ride.

GARover, I've posted a few pix just for you. Hope the kids have recovered and really hope to see you will again. I'm going in for a lift and bigger tires, too.

haha thanks for the pics... If you look closely in the picture of the headlight..you'll see a white velco strip and to the right you'll see a glob of bondo of some type. The previous owner wrecked the truck in a ditch and that was their half ass way to fix it. Hence why it fell out. Of course I didn't know that was all that was holding it in. lol

I went and bought some 1.25 Dom and some sheet metal today. I'm taking the front and rear bumpers off as we speak to make some off road ones. Got a 3" lift and a new high clearance 1.31dom aftermarket tie rod bar coming. I took the old one off and it's like paper thin tubing. A mcdonalds straw looks tougher. lol if I have enough plate left over I'm going to made some rock rails. After that roll over scare you might just see me with a full exo cage next time lol

Sorry if I or anyone else created the misconception that Beasley Knob is a simple Forestry Trail.  It's much more than that, but I've not seen anything there, other than the wall and 93B, that can't be done with a stock jeep and an experienced driver when it's dry.  As NorthGAX stated, he went everywhere the group went in a stock jeep.

I should have said more about seat time on the trail and being an experienced driver, as it is easy for anyone to flop a rig on the trails if they are inexperienced, or make errors.  Could happen to any of us.  We had a group go up there a few years ago now that had 2 rigs with inexperienced drivers not listening to spotters that flopped.  Nothing serious, but it could have been.

Almost everyone on GA Trail Riders started as a novice, and went on their first trail ride with the group.  Everyone learns as they get more seat time, but there is no substitute for a good spotter and seat time.

An important thing to remember is no one wants to ever push you, or for you to go into a situation you are uncomfortable, so call out on the radio and let someone know you want some advice or help.  Folks will run to help.

I've never been on a ride where a broken rig was left behind.  I know some folks want to ride, and have no skills to help other make a repair, but always check it out, hang a bit, and make sure you're not needed.  You can learn a lot about what to do if it happens to you one day.  Sometime somebody has to go for parts.  Everybody can help in some way.  It's also a time to get to know everybody better and talk rigs.  I've helped make a repair, and I have been helped, so we all do what we can on the trail.  There are times when it's under control, and time to go ride.

Overall it sounds like a good time was had by all.  Glad it all worked out and the carnage was no greater than it was.

Did a group go to 93B?

Okay guys...  Just got back home from the ride at Beasley.  Had a safe trip home..  It was great once again to meet all the new guys and to see some of you regulars.  All in all I think the ride was awesome.  The weather couldn't have been any better and the trails were in pretty good shape.  We did have a few  Bumps In The Road  but definitely nothing a little seat time and experience could not fix.  Out of  all the things I have heard so far the best advice i got is #1 - If it is ever taking you out of your comfort zone YELL for a spotter  #2 -  "ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR SPOTTER"....  most of the time the spotter will tell you something that you will think is crazy but he sees things you don't.

As most of you guys probably noiced, I am a BIG guy...  one thing is for sure I am never too big to say "HELP". or "I'M SCARED" or "BYPASS" or "I'M HUNGRY"..  LOL..

Can't wait until the next adventure....  Atleast no one was seriously hurt ..

Here is a link to my photos of the days ride..  Hope it works for you guys..

WHAT HAPPENED HERE?

{ehm} That would be me.  {hihi}   First time ever on the trails.  While the JEEP was perfectly capable of making the entire course, my skills were not.  This was the only spot I thought OH CRAP and unfortunately it was 20 minutes into the trails.  I will let others describe the trail conditions as the best I can do is OH CRAP.

I took the advise of those around me...stay off the brake and turn into a slide if it happens.  I did the turn into the slide but probably touch the brake once too much.  Much to learn!

Thanks to everyone who got me straighten out.  I am pretty sure the call I made on the CB was WE'RE GONNA ROLL...HELP!  :hlp lol  After a short conversation about how the hell are we going to fix this.  The guys pull off the wall with no fuss.  THANKS!

Spent the rest of the day practicing steep descent without touching the brake.  Found out putting the automatic in 1st gear goes a long way to controlling speed without using the brake.  Seems completely obvious now but in the heat of the moment and not expecting a muddy drop it was the furthest thing from my mind....never again!

Other than that I did a lot scraping on objects everyone else rolled over.  Some of it was picking the right line, I think.  Some was having the less ground clearance.  Never got stuck....just tilled a little land.

While I would not recommend this as a first course, I do feel like I learn about about my JEEP, driving and what GA Trail Rider team work is about.  Again I appreciate the opportunity and hope to be able to return the help in future rides.

Congrats on your 1st ride!  That JK U Rubi is extremely capable.  Throw on a budget lift and some 35's and you've got a very capable wheeling machine.  I have a set of 4 door Xenon flares for sale that you need!   :D

Glad it worked out. Those that know me know I would have had a major portion of padding ripped out of the center of the drivers seat!  HUGE pucker for off camber.  ;)

My technique for a slippery decent....
Low gear, ease down, if I start to slide, I ACCELERATE a little getting the wheels up to the slide speed so I regain complete control.  No brakes.
Once control is felt, I try to slow down a little.

Mike, we really appreciate you "Leading the pack" yesterday! You are a great leader/spotter! Thanks for everything (Patty said, "Thanks for trying to catch her!") We are in the process of finishing up the first video and it will be up soon! We should have enough footage for one more (Part two).  We definitely want to go back up there again soon!!!  FYI: If anyone is looking for a good HD video camera, we can recommend one!!! That Canon has been dropped twice and, even after a slide down a mountain  ;D it still works fine!!! It has a little rattle to it though!  {hihi}

That's one of the most common mistakes people make and probably one of the largest causes of rollovers. As unnatural as it feels, sometimes you have to let off the brakes a little. A wheel that is not rolling will not steer at all. Always use low gear on descents except for some of those extreme cases where you might want neutral so it will catch up quicker if you let off, but you'll get into that sfuff later.

A little wheel slippage is to be expected and is OK, but make sure that you lift a little and keep some roll in the tires. Get in the habit of watching you're drivers tire. That's why I prefer to drive doors off. I hardly look through my windshield. I'm usually hanging my head out the side.

The video is awesome.  It definitely captures the difficulty of the trails better than still shots.  Thanks for taking the time to post them up and share them with us.

We all had a great time and hope that we get to ride with you again.  93B was a lot of fun!  Thanks to the White TJ that gave me a pull through the muddy part {toast}, wish I could remember your name.

I had a great time out with everyone on saturday. My 4runner out performed what I expected it to do. It was the first time taking it out to a "real" trail. I am excited for another ride.

Nice video, did anybody happen to catch any pictures of the 4runner?

Hey all! Had an excellent time again!

I would be one of the folks that mentioned Beasley isn't that bad.... tho I spoke from experience last time I went with my stock TJ on 31's and open/open, in fact Ted (TJ) made it everywhere the group went as well, stock, open and on highway tires.

Ted and I left the group around 3 to go eat into town. We went back to the trails and were just going to circle them all again as they were mapped out on the GPS.

Well, we got to the very top of 93C, interesting enough is last time when we decided to go back on the trails, this is the same spot where the YJ broke the D35 axle shaft, we stayed back to run parts from the trail head and for repairs.

Anyway, we stopped at the top when we saw another group of two Jeeps, and someone said "Hey, yous may wanna watch this - he's either gonna roll it or break something!" So we stopped and watched. There was an XJ and TJ.

Turns out it was Danny from Allsouth Autosports in a custom XJ he just built, was climbing up a spot when it rolled, hit a tree, then landed on it's side with the underbody against the tree. The TJ with them had a winch, which shortly stripped out the gears and the XJ had a winch. Between all of us we managed to have enough resources to get the XJ back on it's wheels. The rear driveshaft broke so that was removed and it now only had front wheel drive, a powersteering line came off, that was fixed and it was driving on it's own power.

There were two other guys in one of those polaris ranger buggy things that said they knew a short cut to get back out, I was looking at my GPS and didn't see it, but they have rode the trails more then I. Well it was once we were at the very bottom of the mountain on the otherside of 93C, they realized they made a wrong turn. With only FWD, the big XJ had a very hard time getting itself over the steep hillclimbs. We hooked it to my TJ and I pulled him up the whole way until we finally made it back to the gravel road that leads out of the trails. It was a great way to break in the one day old tires!

I didn't get many pictures, others did and someone from their group even got a video of the roll over. He said building a cage for it was the next thing on the list, and he just painted it.

The tree that the XJ was strapped to is where it was first at before the roll

Well dudes, this whole weekend was a blast.  I think my friend who rode with me is now looking for a jeep (same thing that guy with the pee yellow jeep did to me ;))

Once everybody left me and Rick went back to the trails, and met up with the allsouth guys, and they flipped thier cherokee.  And we helped them recover the Jeep, Rick had to pull the roled jeep up the hills (it only had front wheel drive djue to the roll).

After all that we went riding through some other mountain trails on sunday, Too bad my photobucket rejected the videos, there are videos of rick driving his jeep down a river like a quarter mile and wierding out some campers along the shore.  Some videos of rick jumping his jeep, etc.  If anyone has facebook I'll be uploading them there.

I went up 93b and ran into a green tj with a 5.2 and one tons on trepador tires and he said they was a green xj from allsouth and a polaris rzr that had just came through and was wondering why we didnt see them on the trails. I guess this explains it!

I was wondering if we were going to get trail badges for this ride.  If we do I would like to suggest this emblem for the picture with Beasley Knob included with it somewhere.  It will be a ride I will never forget.

Just checked out the videos. Nice job. They were cool. I didn't have any sound on the first one, but it could have been me.

What camera and editing software are you using? Any complaints?

GA Trail riders, thanks for a great day! I was the guy with my wife in the White JK. My winch is no longer a virgin, YEAAAA! It was fun and nerve racking at the same time. Cant wait to go again.
GA Rover- one thing you can be proud of is those kids of yours. Very well behaved inspite of everything that happened. When its all said and done thats more important then any trail ride. Hats off to you and your wife, but you owe me a muffin, water, bread, pnuts etc. LOL
Rockin Wrangler thanks for the spots!

to the poor saps that asked my wife for directions... I hope you made it out.

One thing, was everyones camera broke when I rode by? No pics of me. The video my wife took looks like the blair witch project. Its so bumpy i get car sick watching.

Anyways gald to make new friends and will send notice when we go back up to Hiawasse to see if anyones up for a ride!
Cheers!!
