Title: Knives
Post by: BigMike on November 08, 2016, 01:04:45 PM
My wife is always complaining that the kitchen knives are dull.  We even have a couple of Wustoff knives that don't hold their edge very well (might be the person sharpening them).

Anywho, her birthday is today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADELINE) and when I was out shopping for her gift (which she told me not to buy her anything), I couldn't think of anything to get her.  I went to Costco yesterday to buy her flowers to give her this morning and there was a guy from Cutco demonstrating knives.  We sliced and diced a bunch of different things and I was pretty impressed.  There were many women coming up to the demonstration area raving about their Cutco knives and how they never get dull.  One woman bought hers in 2002 and just sent them in to get sharpened.  The guy did say they should last 3-5 years without having to sharpen.  Another (hot) woman came up and said her and her husband just bought a set and she says the worse thing about the knives is that you have to be very careful not to cut yourself.  She also didn't want her husband coming to Costco until the guy would no longer be there because they prices were discounted.

So, I'm either gullible, stupid, or both, but I bought her the 21 piece set for $1099.  Lifetime warranty and Cutco has a store on Piedmont where they will sharpen or replace your knives for free.  The set includes 8 "table" (steak) knives and I watched the guy cut up a penny with the kitchen shears.

She'll either be elated or kill me for spending that much but she shouldn't need any more knives for the rest of her life.

good info

We have a "high end" set of knives but I have never been real impressed with them.  The one particular knife I use all the time, it seems like I am running it through the sharpener weekly.

I really should sharpen my knives more often.  Or at least once.

We buy IKEA knives...they are sharp, and very cheap to replace.  Haven't had to replace one yet, by they aren't too old either.

I use some knives from a company Wilco. My uncle sells to restaurants and these were the knifes he recommended to me. Affordable and really sharp. I straighten the blades regularly.

My parents always had cutco, the scissors were crazy.

There's some company somewhere that makes something from another company,  I'll look.  But really I recommend calphalon forks.
GD...that was funny...I'm drunk, but I'm sure it'll be funny when I'm sober
