About Morris Mountain
The park was created from a lack of places to go wheeling.  It started as a pastime for Kris and Randy Morris and quickly grew into Morris Mountain ORV Park.  The park now has obstacles, trails, mud pits, canyons, and a primitive camping facility.

Our experience trying to find places to ride kept leading us to areas that forced you to pay for full weekends, camping facilities, or required reservations, making a spur of the moment one day wheeling trip impractical or unaffordable.  As a result,  MMORV has flexible hours and low fees to allow the average joe to take a half -day wheeling trip or a weekend long outing.

Morris Mountain ORV park will be open on the 2nd and 4th weekends of every month only.  Note this does not apply to privately rented events.

Sorta the flip-of-the-scenario with Golden Mtn; it was a 1.5 hr drive for me but 4 hrs for most folks from home ( Georgia) ; this trip is less than 2 hrs for you Ga folks...I forgot tht BHam is 3.5 hr from me then the 1.5 hrs to the park, heh.

should be worth it ... you guys like this park, huh? I have never been...

It’s not terrible, just not what other parks have. I.E. hale, AOP, windrock, chocco ...... it is what it is. They’re functional.

what hotel is everyone who isn't camping staying at ?
I only ask because Cadence is comin with me on this ride and it might be more 'hospitable' for even a tough-cookie ,14 yr old like her.

The best hotel options are in the Anniston/Oxford area.  That's where I have typically stayed in the past.  Lots of food options in that area as well.

For cheap folks, the America's Best,  on the other side of I-20 (north of Morris) is a decent MOTEL.  The owner is off-road friendly, and you can look at his Sami buggy, assuming he still has it.

The last time I spoke to him, at his gas station, he said he's building a buggy for his son.

it is just a lot to type but it comes-down to us having given my buddy back all of his high-end hiking gear we were using ; I would have to order myself one of those camp-stoves and cups bowls coffee brewer etc. To boil h20 we will have to start a brickette fire for oatmeal/coffee so that comes out to about same cost as the room. you guys know we arent beyond sleepin in the tent; I love camping but we both agreed this trip we might stay in hotel is all.

yup; I just found-out that I had assumed that when we took the truck we recently got ( & that is towin the Jeep) to the appointment she made at a body shop to fix a couple of things( place we bought it is paying for this) that it'd be more than ready by Friday ( we take it in on Tuesday); evidently,  guy told the wife last month it was gonna take four days . She did not ell me this until ystrdy,
[wtf]

That uninteresting bit of info was posted since Chris asked what time some of us are arriving.
Now, I have no idea of the turn around time of this body shop. I cannot be missed since it is part of agreement, but I DO know that I have a u-haul to pickup as early as opening time on Friday morning .
I will ( hopefully) be there Friday afternoon sometime.   If later I guess I will stay longer , thru Sun.

I know, man.

I have been boppin' along fully not considering this date co-inciding with this ride schedule and only when I was talkin to UHaul did wife remind me that " you know that body  shop has the truck all week, right? "

I would reschedule but when we bought via Carvana , they let Customer assess before final signing ; we detected that rear bumper and some minor body scratches that my shrewd business minded wife made sure THEY paid to have repaired. The first date they had was this long after we got truck ( 2 months nearly?) so I cant resched.

I am going to have her hint/mention -tactfully -  that  she "may need to be going out of town" when she drops it off on Tues
morning. There is no way it can take four days for a rear fender-panel to have a little scuff painted & a replacement bumper installed....I hope.

srry, that was as short a detailing of that as I could muster.  I use lots of words.  [btt]

All week long I've been bugging my wife to go to Morris. Her answer was always a firm no.
She asked me to let her drive on one of the tracks on the obstacle course at JF.
Now she's in for this weekend.   [slammin]

And she wants to drive on some easy stuff.  [spectator2]

yeah, if you know what we ( she) went through just to get this & have them repair it ( I could go into specifics but basically if you can see any damage on their online, "360" high def view, it is agreed that it was "as is" ...well, you could only see this unidentified damage if you zoomed fully in at  highest res and as-such, they are paying for a rather costly fix; the 12 dollar uber to her office from the body shop is a small price considering ,altho you're correct about the rental , that is one of the drawbacks to using a newer, online car dealer solution that is really treating us fairly. Others have not or would not have gotten this stuff fixed; they want us gone, lol.

Not sure if anyone is headed to Morris on Thursday but just saw this from Central Alabama CBS42 Birmingham TV Station

"Tropical Storm Gordon made landfall last night near the Alabama/Mississippi state line, bringing with it heavy rain and gusty wind. While we won't see a direct impact from what's left of Gordon, as the low pressure area tracks off to the west, we'll still see waves of showers and storms impact Central Alabama today. Most of the rain we see will just be downpours, but a few embedded thunderstorms are possible with heavy rain and gusty wind. While we don't expect widespread severe weather, one or two of the storms could cause some damaging wind gusts.

With a tropical airmass in place, and the remnants of Gordon still bringing in lots of unstable air from the Gulf and East Coast, another round of showers and storms is likely for Thursday. Just like Wednesday, some thunderstorms are possible that could be strong, so please be aware of the risks the next couple of days.

Gordon's influence should be long gone by Friday and Saturday, with rain chances back in the highly isolated category. With rain chances low, we'll see more sunshine and highs returning to the upper 80s."

---should keep the dust down.

Looking at the rainfall totals it doesn't look like Morris got too much rain. Should be just enough to tack things up. I haven't been in over two years so I'm excited. I am now probably only going to be there saturday but leave early enough to get home in time for the Dogs game. See you guys there .  [slammin]

https://www.iweathernet.com/total-rainfall-map-24-hours-to-72-hours

Looking at the rainfall totals it doesn't look like Morris got too much rain. Should be just enough to tack things up. I haven't been in over two years so I'm excited. I am now probably only going to be there saturday but leave early enough to get home in time for the Dogs game. See you guys there .  [slammin]
The game starts at 3. Not gonna stay long, are ya?

Looks like I’m out. Had the ok from the wife so I went to install my driveshaft from Bobby... and it’s too short. I already replaced the pinions with a generous amount of locktite and my impact isn’t budging them so I can’t just put my stock one back on. 4 wheel parts doesn’t have any in stock so unless @danny kinder has one banging around at Allsouth I’m SOL

So, you have 1310 joints at the pinion and the transfer case?  Front or rear driveshaft?

My “measure 0 times, cut
41.5" as she sits, with some compression and expansion available.

Too long unfortunately- I’ll need some compression when stuffing the Driver’s tire. I’m 38” at ride height so would need like 36.5” fully compressed ☹️

Thanks for checking Clark!

If you take Bobby's driveshaft to the Drive Shaft Services (1395 Cobb Pkwy N, Marietta, GA 30062) they will likely be able to extend it in a few hours.  They are quick and honest.

Planning to leave town first thing in the morning. Should be at Morris by 9 local and set up by 10am local ready to wheel. Anyone else going to be there that early?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

what time is it , 10:45PM in EST? at about 7:45PM CST I found-out the truck should be ready tmmrw & my wife's "callin him 1st thing in the morning"

whenever that goes-down, I am headed to pick-uptrailer then loadin  crow up & headed down.
It may be mid afternoon but I have a sneakin suspicion  tht KK & I will be there later tmrrw to sleep , get-up early & wheel Sat and stay the nite. Maybe get some Sunday time in b4 headin back home.
Not ideal but still getting some trail time.
That is my plan , anyway.

I have a spare one 38”
I wouldn’t drive on the highway but I’m sure you could wheel it. I can throw it in the Jeep and take it to Morris. Lemme know. I’m out early tomorrow morning. And won’t leave Austell until 5pm
