It looks like it was changed in late December so it wouldn't interfere with your wedding.

I'll be in FL

I'd really like to go, but I was hoping for some wheel time before joining a CORE ride. Last weekend didn't work out for me and my stock sport. At the very least I would like to go and learn/help spot. What do you guys think?….

If it were me, I'd be there.  It's an awesome park for those who wheel their jeeps.

It is not like that mud fest we had last weekend, even when it rains.

I had planned a short trip out of the US for that weekend, but now I'm thinking I'd rather go to WR.  Seems I ought to get Lions Den off the bucket list.

Lions Den is Harlan. Unless there is another?

Either way, I want to watch you do it.

How does Windrock compare to Gulches? Are there intermediate trails or is it all technical expert stuff?

Windrock is HUGE...it is 100 times bigger than Gulches with 300+ trails.  There is a lot for beginners, buggies and everything in-between.

From what Ive heard from David ( TrailDuty), He said he went with the club and he was on 33s and a 2.5" and he said he had a blast with Jim (LuvnmyTJ) on the easier trails. I am a bit nervous to drive my rig up there and have to drive it back home but It sounds like there is fun for all. I like to watch youtube videos of different parks before I go to them and see what its all about.

Does that affect us at all?

That is a huge group that will be there.  I don't believe the park is closed to other groups, but they do have pre-set trail runs, and they send folks up to close the trail to others until they have entered and passed.

I doubt they will be on the blacks our group wants to run.

The one I remember is where we put Danny's winch line on everyone's rear tow point to drop in.... It's actually in the calendar last year with my jk in the creek.

We rolled up to that point like 90 minutes into the trail. And we were like "well, we're not turning around now, let's go figure it out."

After the winch fest down and across the creek
then the rain started....winch up that hill, I had
a flat and oh yes the unmarked trail where Jim
took out a small tree. Wes trying to get wedged
between boulders.

Ahh yes!  Man, that trail was AWESOME!  The between the bolder was our first day, correct?  That's when I made the life changing decision to get synthetic winch rope.  I felt so bad seeing people lug that wire up that hill.

Post by: kent10sne1 on March 20, 2015, 11:59:19 AM
well im going to have to set this one out, but there are tons of easy/intermediate trials, that an open/open rig can handle.     1st time I went there i was open/open oon 33's .    and i did alot, even some stuff i should not have been on, but with the crew thats going, you have great spotters, and seasoned wheelers that can get u up/over/down just about anything.  just take ur time, and if you dont feel comfortable, just winch over it.

So far this is my favorite park. I readily enjoy Windrock. Last year a few of us were there for a week and I think we still were short a few trails. This park as every level of trail for every level of rig. The first time I was there I was open/open, on 33's, on a 3" BL, and a winch. There was plenty to do at that level. As for breaking and not being able to get back; in this group we never leave someone stranded. It doesn't happen. Oh and from personal experience there is at least one auto parts store 5 minutes from the park. I replaced an ignition component last year, amongst other parts. This is a great park to wheel at any level; I highly recommend going.

Are they any hotels nearby?

There is a place called the Windmill Inn that is very close.   It is an old church converted into a bed and breakfast.

Great people, but when we stayed there last time it was so damn hot it was unenjoyable.  The big tv, poker table, and pool table were not used much due to the temperature in the chapel.  Wi-Fi was not very strong.  They did have a garage where you could pull a jeep to work on it.  They have a community fridge for strong food and drinks.

I'm not staying there this time!

Got us a spot booked. It's in the area passed the bathrooms in the "pick your site" area. Plenty of open sites. Need 7 days notice if we need to cancel. I still need to confirm the trip with my scheduling committee.

It's possible, we just need Ben's trailer(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/25/6627e3be38266db347eeb1cf48a28855.jpg)

I am scheduled for 24 hrs on Friday and Monday. I will either take the back 12 hrs of Friday off and drive up during the night or head up Saturday morning. If it is the latter I will be wheeling a little on Sunday.

I just called and they are all booked, but there are some "maybe's" that may be cancelling. I talked to the lady and they have until this afternoon at 4 to confirm or lose their spot. Hope this is none of you guys, but if one opens up I am going to try and get it. If not, is there anyone else with one small tent that would be willing to share their spot? I'll pay for my half and bring the beer.... It will be just me this time.

We went to her house for a Christmas gathering and I ate some kind of roast beast and it was good. I think it was some pig. Are you canceling the entire trip, or just moving to a cabin/hotel room?  Is your camping decision based on 0% chance of rain for all days you are there?

Clark, pay attention to where your hydro lines are at full stuff when you are fitting everything.

I have an spare hydro line you can grab for a "just in case" moment if you want to. You may have ordered extras though.

I may be a bit later on Thursday than originally planned.  My hydro assist should be in on Wednesday, so I'm going to try to get it installed before Windrock so I can test it ahead of Moab.   I'll have caps so I can cap it off if crap goes wrong.

Jeez the signup is sold out for the jamboree it looks like. However, it also says that " jeeps with 37s and over 6" of lift will be turned away" so the hard trails will probably be more open.

It rained the last time we were there.
Trail to trail was dirty, but not too bad.  Wet rocks stink, but there isn't much you can do about that.

This park is plenty big enough for two big groups. We split into easy - moderate - hard groups so you should be safe with out skids + you have factory skid plates.

Go head and get a cube shaped Glad container to make ice blocks with. Opening and closing it all day will make it perform like any old cooler but the ice block and keeping minimal air space with loose ice, drinks, ect. will make it shine.

Good idea, I was also told to bring it inside the night before (if it's hot) to help keep it cooler.  I noticed with the yeti tumblers that makes a huge difference. Cold water + ice lasted 21 hours before the last sliver of ice melted. Still cold for several more.

This is what I do for my cheapo coolers...it works awesome.  I have one form that is exactly the size of the bottom of my cooler.  I also use solo-like cups that I acquire from work (used by me) that i will fill and freeze.   Part of it is being cheap, but it is very effective too.

For Yeti, cool the cooler, then cool the contents for a week.  Throw a few ice bags in it or dump your freezer ice in a day or half day early and ice the cooler down.  Next day add ice and food and beverages and it will keep all week.

With the impending doom and threat of Tornado's, I am regretfully canceling my participation. I called the Campground o inform them and they only charged me for one night.  So Tent space P4 is available. I know I am going to regret this and it's just going to blow over tonight. But since the wife was supposed to join me, it's already making her happy that I am canceling. I guess my wheeling is going to be limited to Trey Mtn this Spring. Oi. Y'all have fun.

Nope, too much driving for a short trip.  I may try to go back there sometime on the side soon.  I will be installing backsplash in my kitchen instead.

This was my first time to Windrock and I was amazed at how big the park is, I look forward to a return trip.  As always, I had a great time with GATR. Great spotting and camaraderie on the trails and always a fun time back at camp around the fire.  Thanks to all who came out and made it a great time.

I am thinking about possibly doing a weekend in July at Windrock, probably the 2nd or 3rd weekend. How far is it between sections? mileage or time wise?
