It's been in my basement for 6 yr's

Yes, how much?  And are you sure it will fit 97-06?  I thought I read somewhere the 97-01 top is just a little bit different than an 02-06, but I could very well be wrong.

I think its just the vents that are different. The early tops were vented, the later tops were not. The vent was moved to the rear hatch.

I have a soft top from a 2003 on my 1999. It was a direct  bolt on.

TJ hartops were the same throughout the run. Obviously not the LJ ::) As Matt said, vents were the difference.
