I'm planning to get there Fri and wheel. I booked a room for Fri night at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Anniston Oxford, 143 Colonial Dr, Oxford, AL. Can cancel up until 1/12/17 so I can see what the weather will be like. AAA rate of $84
If I plan on camping do I need to call and book a campsite now, and does anyone know how late I can show up on Friday? I'll be driving up after work Friday evening.

Ok cool, hopefully my light bar will be bright enough.
I might possibly have a couple friends coming with their jeeps as well to give our group a try. Do we have any idea as of now how many people we have going?

For the guys who drive their Jeeps to rides like this and want the doors off, do you take them off before you leave? Or, do you do it at the park?

Ask? Lol. Its not uncommon to come off the trail and find doors, tops, windows etc... on my trailer. One time at AOP ( I think) I found a set of front axle shafts. :)For the guys who drive their Jeeps to rides like this and want the doors off, do you take them off before you leave? I have an extra soft top due to this...I figure if you didn't ask, neither should I. Thanks for the top that occupies extra space in my basement.Ask? Lol. But yeah if you don't know them probably best to ask.

Party at the Fairfield inn...bring your favorite bourbon! I have stayed at the low rent motel (America's Best) on the north side of the road you use to get to MM; it's a very nice stay for cheap...no sarcasm...I'd stay there again.

I'm in! Weather permitting, of course. I will be driving up Saturday morning and heading out Sunday morning.
Since I'm dependent on weather, I'll also be camping if I go
**wrong thread, lol
Trying to make it. I fly back from Miami late Friday night.
Just in case you guys didn't know - the Fairfield and Courtyard in Anniston/Oxford are Tier 1 Marriott properties that are 7500pts/night. 30k Marriott pts is roughly equivalent to $100. So, if you have Marriott points, it behooves you to use the points as that equates to ~$25/night in points. Doesn't get any cheaper.
Morris does not dry out very quickly. I'm keeping a close eye on rainfall between now and the ride to determine whether I'm still going. It's primarily red clay and is slick as hell when wet.

Will my stock Jeep work with regular wheels on the class 1 trails? Is it a stock Rubicon, or stock Sport/Sahara? I am not sure what is a 'class 1 trail', but if that is the set of trails that get your from obstacle to obstacle, then I'm pretty sure you'll be able to do those trails. A stock Jeep is fairly capable. If you have a stock Rubicon, you'll be able to do much more than the trails that connect obstacles.
I was just going off of what is on this page:

Near the bottom where it talks about vehicle requirements.
I was just going off of what is on this page:I'm with you on the stock rig bud, but if this place is anything like gulches was there were plenty of trails to ride with my stock Sahara.

Morris is bigger and better than Gulches. You will really enjoy it.
unless its soaking wet
Those that got rooms you keeping them or switching to camping? Just curious, I hadn't booked a room yet because I'm not sure on Friday yet.If I'm able to make it out on Friday, I'm planning to keep my room...for now. However, camping and saving a hundred bucks sounds like a good idea. I'll know more tomorrow.
I'm keeping my room regardless. Worth the price just for the shower in the morning.
How many are running friday? I can only make it a day trip due to work and friday is the only day I have.I'm still TBD
I'm planning to get there on Friday by noon at the latest.
Now you've done it!I'm planning to get there on Friday by noon at the latest.
I plan to be there by noon as well unless anything unforeseen delays some Jeep repairs.

PSA: do not follow directions from Waze to get to Morris! Google and Garmin get it right, Waze gets you frustratingly close, but terrible off.
Not on Waze...no way-z! I guess it's possible they've fixed it, but the last time I was with someone who used Waze, we ended up on the other side of the mountain, without an easy way to get to the correct side. We had to use someone's land to turn around...with trailers attached.PSA: do not follow directions from Waze to get to Morris! You sure you don't mean Chocco? Finding that place gave me fits. Morris was easy to find, for me.
Oh man, I'm excited about the awesome gas station breakfast I'll be having on Saturday in Alabama. I'd tell you where it is, but I'm afraid you'll cause them to sell out.I've been thinking about the same thing...
To demonstrate how considerate I am, I'll give two hints:
1) the breakfast comes from a gas station
2) the gas station is in Alabama

I'm interested... if not here maybe a nearby waffle house, if there is one. I plan on getting there early so I can eat something after the 4hr drive
Next door to Dollar General?IDK
I'll be there Friday evening and wheeling Saturday from 9-12:00 //::)// I guess 3 hours of wheeling time is better than non.A group of hard men could meet at 8 am and set out to give you more time to wheel...just a thought.

After you enter the gate it a big parking lot/ camping area. No rhyme or reason. Just find a spot.

Oh, well that seems easy enough. Does it matter where I have a campfire? Or are there designated areas?

Well, I'm just glad someone asked that question. I assumed AL was eastern. Little do I know.
Just a reminder that the Morris Mountain trail map is available with the Avenza PDF map app.Where is the map? I have avenza, but haven't downloaded a new map in a while. Can you remind me?

That is the MM paper map. It is about as useless as doors on a jeep
FYI. There is a sign at the pay box saying no open fires. Not sure if that is left over from the super dry weather.
It depends on what you consider night. I *think* you can ride into 10 pm OR midnight.Any chance of a night ride tonight?Unfortunately there is no night riding at Morris.

GBU was slick as hell. The right side which is usually "easy" absolute skating rink. None of us could get up it.
