Another awesome trip. The weather was completely opposite from the original forecast. Hot and sunny all day. We didn't get to see it all but what we did see was gorgeous. Thanks again for leading us around Ben and AJ. This was my first time towing with the silverado and I'm super satisfied!

Looks great. How did it go for you overall? I know there was concern about some smaller rigs for this trip initially.

Wasn't too bad for me. There were a few places where Connor had to spot me and he did a great job guiding me over the rocks.

Just wanted to say "Thanks" to everyone that showed up, nice group we even had some 1st timers..   appreciate all the kindness , my son felt welcomed.  thanks again.   he got sick just after lunch, ..  he does not like the bouncing around, but he came at MY request, he knows i like it, I wanted to play a bit more but toward the end his patience was wearing thin....  along with he had thrown up i think, gave his something to settle his stomach once we hit pavement, he was still feeling poor.  so thats kind of why we bolted.  took him back to the room, after his shower he rested a bit, and then felt 100% better.

I think Ben put it best..  if your riding and not used to it, u can kind of feel beat up, all the moving around and jerking..  anyway..

thanks again for the ride, even if I did'nt get to see the big cave, i enjoyed the company.. as always, being with like minded, folk is alot of the fun, and seeing everyone enjoy themselves is always good...    maybe if we get to go again we can get make it to the big cave, but its still a nice ride,..

See you all at.  Golden.. GATR fest....  woot!

Tom is his name. There is a FB page somewhere. Just try searching coppengers cove? As for the trip it turned out great. Weather went form 60% rain to 0% and was beautiful. Water was not too high at the deep crossing either. We met at Tom's and found out that Tom had hurt his clutch foot so we were guideless. Larry and I took pics of his topo map and listened to directions but as you know in the cove directions are kinda useless because the directions they give are turn left, go thru the pine grove, turn down into this creek and then turn again at the bottle in the tree... makes for a great easter egg hunt if you have the time. So we took off in search of the big cave. Never found it but we did find another cave to explore and had lunch there. The cool air certainly was welcome coming out of the cave. You could see your breath inside. We then left out to find the cave again and no luck. Spent 7 hours or so riding in and out of the river and over some good terrain. Hope everyone had fun and sorry we never found the big cave but I had a ton of fun. Thanks to AJ for trying to lead us to the cave with the guys GPS coordinates. Hope to someday find the cave but either way I saw one cave on this trip. My wife had a blast and was all into the wheeling and scenery. Funny part she now wants a jeep to come out and ride ha ha. And she wants a 4 door ha ha. Maybe I can get out more often this way so cool by me. All in all great day other than the total lack of respect for the GATR Captain ;) I found my driver hub unlocked at the most inconvenient time in the river and was stuck for a bit due to it not working... and I had a shoe stealer. All in good fun but watch yo backs ha ha.

This might happen... in 5 or more years. Unless we can buy something outright with cash, we don't buy it. We will not have another car payment ever again. I have 3 vehicles all paid for and we vowed to never again have another payment. Simple really. The only debt I have is my student loans and the house. No CC debt, no other loans... we learned a huge lesson many years back where we owed $45,000 in CC debt. We busted hump and sacrificed for 2 hard years and paid it off. So once you go thru something like that you certainly look at money a little differently. She has no idea what kind of money is involved with this hobby and we have bigger goals in our sites than a 4 door jeep.

My wife and I had a great time as well. We headed up Friday and came back Sunday. We made a longer weekend out of it as we needed some much needed time away. I was very bummed to not get on the stair steps or the big cave and even at the end when everyone was ready to head out still wanted to try some off shoots to try and find it. Thanks to everyone that showed up to make these rides what they are... fun!

I didn't get too may pics but here is a link to the ones I did get, I'll also add my wife photos to this from her camera. http://s921.photobucket.com/user/gint2/slideshow/2017-6-17%20-%20GATR%20Cove (http://s921.photobucket.com/user/gint2/slideshow/2017-6-17%20-%20GATR%20Cove)

So... you guys got lost.... again?  Where was Tom?  I thought he was leading the group around since you and Ben got lost last time up there?

the guy that was suppose to lead, had a hurt foot, but we heard stories that he is NOt one to actually lead, so no one knew we where on our own till we showed up..  no ones fault. not sure where "Tom" was , but Ben & AJ did a great job of making sure we did plenty of water crossings and found some rocks as well.

All-n-All, its just enjoying the ride, with friends, no pressure, great day with great friends on some trials..  getting lost , its all in how you decide to look at it. .   ..   win/win in my book.

I wouldn't say "lost".  The road goes straight through and we knew, for the most part, where we were.  Tom had his foot wrapped up and said he hurt it and couldn't drive.  We didn't have a guide so did the best we could.  I got the GEO cords from a guy we saw on the trail but couldn't locate the big cave.  I have another name to guide us next time.  In my book this Tom cat is scratched off.

Marie says the guy we need is Pete. So maybe later in the year we can find this guy and do a fall crawl. Don, next time you want to step up and lead feel free. It's not easy being thrown into the position of leading when the guy who was supposed to be "leading" can't. I did the best I could based on the short time I spent there previously when AJ and I had went to explore for a short time. We never found the big cave as we had the local yocals giving us directions only a local would understand. The first time we went we figured we were lost but actually were not. Road follows the river and we found an exit up and out and did the same this trip. Was I disappointed in not finding the main objective, yes. But I don't think anyone had a bad time. We all made it out, nobody broke and nobody left behind. To me that is a win in my book.

I am heading back up there next month with some locals around here. My secondary goal after having a good time is to start nailing down the locations of the great trails, dry creek bed runs and locations of the caves. I think it will take about a dozen trips to sort it all out.

It definitely would take a good number of trips to map it out. It took us all day to get where we exited and still were aways out from the old church. Somebody needs a GPS tracker and a topo map like Tom had and we could make a map. Next thing would be to make actual signs giving you some sort of direction. Unless you know somebody who knows the place it can be overwhelming to locate anything.

Add signs and watch the facebook ding bats swarm in.

That's why there are none I would imagine. But there needs to be some sort of markers in certain areas. Simple colored arrows to certain areas. Not like we have at private parks.

That "GROUP" has multiple rides there every year.  They just had a huge group up there Fathers Day weekend.

Would have no affect on Tony since he is already a terrible driver.

Tony wouldn't care, since he drives other's vehicles when he's impaired.

Had to order a new right side mirror. While backing up to turn around I wasn't paying attention to the right side and caught it on a tree.

Not only are objects in mirror closer than they appear, there are now more of them.
