Title: Flatland road
Post by: Ckkphoto on October 01, 2017, 04:33:27 PM
Going off road this  next weekend. My first choice is closed for hunting so i am thinking about flatland road.  I have looked at videos and it looks doable.  The only concern i have is there seem to be a couple spots that are narrow and very off camber at the same time.  I am not squeamish but the f250 is pretty wide and i dont want to slide sideways into a wall.  Any concern?

I'd definitely be worried in that large of a truck in the narrow part.

I kissed that wall last time I was there in my K1500

I could probably handle a kiss as long as there is no deep public display of affection for the wall.  Kev.....should i risk it or skip it?

I haven't been there in a couple of years, don't know if it's worse or not.  First time I went I had no issues, didn't come close to wall, second time truck kept dying as I gave it gas, lost momentum and forced me in the wrong line into the ruts and wall.  I don't know what to tell you. Sorry

It was part of the GATR January Forest Service Ride a few years ago.  If it's wet, nobody can get off that wall.

Was that the red clay ruts we went through after the little creek crossing at the end of the road?

When you cave in a piller, door, bed or shatter some glass do you still think it will be "fun"?
Your truck is too friggin nice to ruin it. Especially on a dirt road.
If you wanna sell tickets to watch you launch it like the General Lee then good for you.
But the risk to reward doesn't seem worth it.

I'm not trying to be critical of your decision to "wheel" your truck. It is your property to do as you wish. I just don't want to see it get damaged.
Get a $1k XJ & bounce it off trees, walls, rocks or whatever you want. Its a lot more fun.

I thought we tried. Regardless, you tried the cheep Jeep route but rust killed that option.

Funny you should say that.   I appreciate your input but my wife is there ahead of you.   We are gonna buy a cheap jeep and build it up.  It was decided tonight. Prolly January  before I buy one and will still be off road.  I doubt i will sustain much damage bc i am more of a trail rider than rock crawler.   I'm pretty tame.  But you and my wife are both right....it is a big truck and there are much more affordable beaters.

I'm not sure it really qualifies as "crawling", more like "step on the skinny pedal and hope I don't break anything", once I get the right rig, I'll learn patience.  Maybe,  or just drive like big dave!
  Good times!

Believe it or not, since I have started trailering the XJ, I've been a little easier on the Jeep!!
