Title: Crawling for Reid Fundraising ideas
Post by: cru9 on January 19, 2015, 07:00:29 AM
Ok this a thread for brain storming on fund raising ideas. We have been working very hard on off road items for raffle tickets. We are starting to work on silent auction items. If anybody has contacts with companies or the company they work with and want to get involved please speak up. If you want to do it private PM me or Tony.
We are also looking for funds to help buy shirts and hats to sell at the event. I know most have yall have already donated and Allsouth has too. Not asking for your money but just to help find more avenues for us to go down and get more people and awarness.  I am having a meeting Saturday and will have alot more details and answers after that. Once again I am very thankful for the GATR family and everything GATR has done.

Examples we were talking about last night

Concert tickets
Box seats to pro sports
Autographed items from musicians or Athletes
Vacation stay at beach condo or mountain cabin.

Hey guys.....I have an idea
You know how people will try to get their friends
to sponser them on 5k walks and such.....
Most of my fellow workers don't off road and a lot
of people I know don't do facebook....so what if we
came up with a flyer or something to get those type
of friends and coworkers to sponser (so to speak)
our Jeep or rig for the Crawling For Reid?

Maybe make it a contest to see who gets the most
and award some type of prize.... what do y'alll think

Heather is in close connection with the UGA basketball coaches. I could probably get a ball signed for the auction. I might could get a ball signed from Rickt. She also does business with the swim team but a signed speedo is probably taking it a little too far.

I’ve heard good things about people making and selling the paracord bracelets and key chains.
I would gladly volunteer my time to make as many as I can.
If I recall correctly Kent knows where to get the material for a good price.

We can definitely sell PB&J's (GATR CLUB SANDWICH) at the event if that works Bonny.

Have you thought about Manny's BBQ?

Have you thought of setting up an online fundraising page through groups like http://www.youcaring.com (http://www.youcaring.com) or https://fundly.com (https://fundly.com)
I raised money  for Special Olympics previously and I was able to forward the link to several friends, their companies had matching donation programs. There could be prizes that go to most money raised. 2nd most 3 rd most. Etc. I think if there is a site that helps people raise money it should be utilized. Often a brief statement can help explain the fundraising initiative.

As the chairman for Drinking for Reid, I was thinking about setting up a ring toss for wine or beer.  ie. $5 gets three tosses. If you ring a bottle, you keep it.  Anyone have connections on getting booze donated?

Conceptually I like the idea and will play; however, practically it could become a problem at the crawling for reid event, if that is where you planned to do it, for a few reasons:
1) transport of alcohol across state lines.  This may not be an issue...who knows?
2) how many cases were you thinking would be "won"?  A lot of winners makes transport a pain due to the quantity needed.
3)  if this isn't an official charitable organization, I doubt the alcohol companies will donate.  I know when my beer club tries to get stuff donated, those companies are strict about our organization's status with the IRS.

Think about the details and let me know.  If it seems like a go, I'll contact a couple of people I know at some local breweries to see if they can help.

I'm not really sure.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, since I don't really know the logistics.  Originally this idea was given to me as a wine toss. I figured it would be a lot easier to transfer some case of wine. I thought it would be easy to basically just get a certain amount and play till its gone

I agree on the wine being easier...plus I want to see some bubba on the trail with a nice Chardonnay!

I know one person in the wine industry...I'll hit him up.

I'm sorry but I don't think thats a good idea.
This will be the Off Road World's time to
shine and project the true spirit and commitment
that we have for each other and our community.

Those activities are great around the campsite and
I love joining in....but not sure this would be the
right time or place......just my 2 cents worth.

This has national attention, and I would agree. Another day and time would be fine and fun. If this turns into a yearly event, then anything that went wrong from this would keep a lot of vendors away.
