Excited about this one.

Is it going to be like RR? Meaning we eat/sleep in a central location near the tow rigs/parking lot?  Or is it going to be park the tow rigs in a parking lot.  Take sleeping/camping/food gear with you in your trail rig and sleep on the trail?

Or is it just one day, the 15th?

It's our Anniversary weekend, that's why I wanted to do the ride on one of those other weekends that you are talking about Doug. It's OK, we haven't been to Biluxi since a couple of weeks before Katrina hit. We still get offers regular and have always got stuff comp. out.

Folks can camp if they want, just don't think they allow camping in Beasley, but there is plenty of camping in the area. If someone knows otherwise please chime in.

Everytime I've been to beasley, I've camped and done some sort of night wheeling. And they don't close the gates to this place unless it has rained. So I don't think there is a posted "time to be off the trails."

according to gatr time that means get to waffle house some time around 10 and then think about starting to get ready to ride around 11. haha

It's been a while since I've posted here but I'd like to join for this ride. I just need to find a fire extinguisher and a SWR meter to tune my CB....
I'm also waiting on my new tires and wheels to come in but they're on backorder at 4WP, so that may hold me up as well... I'll post in the check-in thread when I know for sure....

You will still need to stop at the pay station/parking lot to pay and to air down. Don't know about the eating part. Can somebody post for sure what y'all are going to do. Thanks.

I still may be going, but I'll add my name later this week when I know for sure.

I plan on being at Waffle House at 8:30. Should be able to snag a quick bite and be at the trail head at 9:30 ready to depart. So if your not eating I would plan to be ready to roll at 9:30 from the pay lot.

I just called 4WP and my new tires and wheels will be ready to pick up on wednesday, and I just picked up a fire extinguisher from wal-mart so now all I need to do is traighten out my CB...

Also, if I end up going I'll probably end up camping either at the trail or about 20 minutes away on Blood Mountain, I used to go there all the time as a kid...

Further up 76, where you can get to the other parking lot via FS 93, has an area that is more open and we could get a nice group shot. We can  ride and make our way towards there. Or we could change where we are going to start. Just a thought.

Is there an 'official' place for everyone to meet up?  Reading the thread it appears that some will meet at Waffle House and others at various parking lots.  Would a rookie just pick one of the places and just have his CB on?

There is always a lot of discussion, and guys meeting different places, but you always refer to the original post for the best meeting spot to find the group.  Here's the info from the ride post.  See ya there.

Where: Beasley Knob, Blairsville, GA
When: August 15
Fees: $5 Per Vehicle Per Day
Meeting Spot: Waffle House in Blairsville, GA @ 9:00am  (I hope there is only 1  :o )
EDIT Googled it and only found 1 - 10 Highway 515, Blairsville, GA 30512

You must meet the following requirements in order to ride with GATR.  No exceptions.
1. Functional Parking brake or Line Lock
2. Tow strap
3. Jack
4. Fire extinguisher (must be secured and easily accessible)
5. Seat belts/restraints for all passengers
6. CB with clear reception
7. Recovery hooks or D-rings front & rear
8. Battery hold-down

Please check in the "Check In" thread.

I am thinking about going.  Does anyone plan on running 93B.  that is the only trail up there that I have never ran.  would like to give it a shot if one group plans on hitting it. I have never been up it, so if it is not possible on 33s let me know and I want even try it.

Albert, We'll hit it. I think that is the one where the guys flopped last year. Nothing spectacular, but the best trail I saw there. I have seen some youtube videos of spots I have not seen so some exploring is in order. Rain scheduled the rest of the week so we need to be watching and calling the station!!

What's with Beasley? Everytime we plan a trip it has to rain. Apparently, Beasley needs to be spontaneous and spurt-of-the-moment. It doesn't rain then.

Since it has been a long post the back-up ride is suppose to be Durhamtown.

Will someone be posting on the night before if we need to change since the forecast is for rain up till Saturday? Thanks.

I haven't rode the 4x4 part in Durhamtown, but hear its pretty mild since it is still so new.

If it does rain, I really don't feel like making the trip to Durhamtown.  I have better things to do... like sit at home and save some gas and admission money.

Only reason I'm passing is because I've been there and wasn't too impressed with the place. I'm not even a rock hopper, but there just wasn't anything down there. Unless the owner has done some major work. Which if that's the case, I'll just hear about it whenever the group gets back to tell everyone about it.

Cool...  That is it...  I don't want to come down ..  It may be different now but the ledge was pretty tough for a baby jeep like mine.  Going up was much better and a lot more fun...

No pics...  My dad was on point..  he winched up and pulled me up with a strap..  I think I might could make it with a better line...  Would love to try it again...

My buddy was with us on a 4 wheeler and he had to turn around..  toooooo steep...

He pouted the rest of the day...  As a matter of fact, He hasn't talked to me too much since last November....   hahahah...

Brings owes me some good snacks!  What's he bringing this time?   {letseat}

I thought you were supplyin the goods! M&Ms are his favorite! Hint hint!

Since we have so many vehicles should we think about splitting up and start at different ends of the trails? Just a thought.
93B is the only one that some will not be able to do.

And what happens when we meet head to head on the skinny trail?  LOL.  I like follow the leader!   :P

This ride will be a perfect example of why you must have a good working CB to hear what is going on!

And there is the invite for Travis's place, the 3rd weekend get together.
Just bring something to contribute. You may want to call as mentioned in the other post to find out what may be needed. Usually a side dish, cole slaw, potato salad, desert etc.

I spoke with him today and he has been stacking up a wood pile for just an occasion like this.  Bonfire and BBQ after the ride sounds good.   {toast}

Dustin and I are about to head out the door.  We are going to camp tonight.  if anyone changes there mind and want to camp we will be at the main campground at Beasley or if not there the first road to the right after the pay station; both areas are easiest to get to by coming in gas tank entrance.  my truck is a 4 door silver Dodge Duelly,  jeep is a blue rubicon with some duct tape holding it together.

I would say we have to have a least 2 groups.  if 30 jeeps make it up it would suck to try and do that as one group.

Man, I want to go to this so bad.
Honestly, I'm a bit worried...I go to the Beasley Knob page & it says "Difficult to Most Difficult" & me being such a noob I'm worried about messing something up on my daily driver.
Anyone got any advice for me?
Like, what if there's something I'm not comfortable doing?
I just want to learn the ropes before I go out trying something way out of my league.

No worries! Beasley is not hard in anyway. Just hill climbs that are slow and steady. We will look out for you! I just called the ranger station and we are a go for tommorrow! Should be a great day. As for the extremely large group... we will figure it out when we all get there. 10am latest we are hitting the trails. If you are late, we are on ch.7 {letseat}

Come on out.  We were all newbies once.  It's all about driving style.

On the trail, always pick a spotter, and listen to him.  Don't hammer it, use finesse.  We don't practice "if parts aren't flying, you aint trying!"  lol.  Well Larry does.   :P

Don't try anything you are not comfortable with.  Build up over time, a little more each time you ride.  A stock Jeep is very capable in the right challenge.  Beasley Knob is probably the most stock/newbie friendly place around if it's dry.  If it's wet, I hear nobody's good.

So Livingston, NO DOORS?

Nothing could possibly be out of the norm on your first wheelin trip with your stock daily driver....

.....just be careful when ya "bump it"

So WH at 9AM.... is this what time we are going to be getting grouped together and heading to the trails? So if we want to get breakfast, arrive early?

Ted and I will be heading up and spending the night there. 200 miles/4hrs away, 8hrs total and a full day of wheelin is alot for 1 day, did that last weekend with Aetna, taking it easy this time.

 {ehm}  If you want bfast get to the waffle house early. We will be leaving there around 9:30 or so since the trail head is about 2 miles or so away. We plan on riding at 10am from the pay station. This should give us enough time to air down, disconnect and be riding by 10. If you are later than 10 follow the dust and get on ch.7. The trail system is less than 11 miles long.  {salute}

It was tuff today. Slick as snot. I think Doug and Larry were the only ones that didn't pull cable. I pulled once to get over the big stump. After giving it a valiant effort with my worn out tires and nearly ripping my rear door hinge off of the B pillar, I decided to use the winch.

yes it was! loose top soil and rocks... Larry ended up pulling a cable once I think. Doug made it but it wasn't an easy ride. After that we (the 4 who bypassed) met up at the top of 93B and we finished the climb where a red YJ broke the rear D35 near the top on a ledge.

Glad to hear the other group had a good time. I would have liked to of seen more but time didn't allow. I hope to go back one day and actually ride all the trails.

If 93B is not enough action for you guys the far left 2 climbs on 93F are just as bad if not worse. Those hills were scary.

We definitely seen every trail today except 93B. Had a lot of fun. No real damage or trouble for anyone other than a c-clip on a U joint.

I have some pics I will get up tomorrow. We had a great group, it was nice meeting the new guys, that I havent had a chance to meet yet. Special thanks to Tedder & Vince for holding down the winch spots in our group, even though we didnt need them.

That I've been on.  These photos don't show the other group that had to be 10 or more.  So 20+ showed.

IT was my second ride and it was fun.  My stocker on street tires even helped another Jeep up a hill.  Learned a little more about driving and built some confidence.

Great pictures guys. There are usually way more pictures. I didn't see a lot of cameras this time including myself. I have to get off my butt and get a new camera.

NorthGAX, sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you on the way out. I was running late getting out of there and then my CO2 bottle ran out of air after two tires so I had to bust out and get to the gas station. Nothing like having the right side tires aired up to 30 and the lefts on 7. They drive kind of funny like that.  ::)

Just made it back to South Georgia. Had a great time.  It was cool meeting a lot of you guys and puttig faces with the avitars.

Also learned alot of things on 93b.  Especially how to winch and what a good tool a snatch block is....  Can't wait until the next time..

Here are the only photos I took.  The rest of the time I was a little busy...

Not any photos from me. I was real busy winching Albert up and beating My Jeep half to death! Lost a tire on the way up, inner wall seperated and balooned out. >:( And lost an inner seal on the pass side of the 30. No biggie. If that is all that happened off that snot trail I am happy. I know after that first ledge with the stump I had to hammer that thing and got airborne twice. Freakin nuts! No traction at all! I wanted to tell Dustin he gets hero of the day award for all his work with the winch fest.  {toast} I know my winch and Mikes winch got put to the ultimate test! Mine is slow but it held it's own all the way up. I have ruun the bus in the rain and it was NOTHING like that trail!

Had fun guys,  It was cool.  I got a few pics, But my computer and photobuckets bulk uploader doesn't get along so rick is going to get them onto his, hopefully he well post them.  On the way back I got a video of us doing some canyon carving in the jeeps lol.

My stocker on street tires even helped another Jeep up a hill.

Yeah, thanks for that lol.  I just couldn't get up that mud, maybe I could have if I deflated my tires, but I got tired of fixing leaks from dirt getting in the bead so I don't deflate my street tires.

Does anyone know if the guy who broke his axel got home alright?  We (me and rick) brought the parts up to him and led him down the mountain and into town.

Not aware of any kinks...  I do have one wire broke..  I need to trim in off and tape it up  ;D

I did however have about 5 birds nest...  We hooked to cable to Albert's bumper when you were winching him over the last obsticale.  It was easier to unspool it that way verses Dustin and Jeremy pulling by hand... ;) ;D :'( {salute} {boohoo}

I was there and I rode up to the first trail where everyone was getting hung up and had to winch up. I stayed over there for a good hour playing and trying to get up the first part of the hill. I found out real fast that my wore out 31's were just throwing rocks. So I turned around went down the trail and tried to come back around. I ended up just riding around all day and never running into anyone else and left around 3 or so. Sorry for the discussion, just wanted to give an explanation. But I had a good time and would like to ride again, as soon as I get some better tires.

X2 I was ready to run back up the mtn if Rick had not been able to run the parts back up. I would have had to suck up to my wife for a week for being so late be that would have been ok too.

Mike do not sweat it at all.  I had a compressor that I figured would work but it failed and I had to borrow Daniels.  It was good overall because my wife now understands why I need a CO2 tank.  ;D

So if sitting in the parking lot for 45 minutes is the price for a CO2 tank that is a good trade.

Larry, I'm glad you made it out without having to fix something when you got home. I wish I couldve seen all this "fun" on 93B but I've done the whole sit on one trail all day and pull cable, so I'm glad we got to drive all over the place. Matt and I still missed 93G though, but we'll get it one day.

CO2 tanks are awesome. They are fast. I just need to get better at guestimating how much air is left. You can easily tell by weighing the tank, but that would require effort.  ::)

Don't forget about bouncing way up in the air when you hit it. It really does help you learn how to accelerate on slick surfaces. Gotta roll into it.

Had a blast! I liked it there, it was just the right challenge for my basically stock TJ on 31's.

Thank you Matt for helping with the duct tape u-joint repair! That was the SAME thing that happened at Mountainside, except I didn't know what it was until the cap flew off and took the inner axle shaft with it. I knew the sound and caught it before it went, bought a new u-joint, popped in the new c-clip, good to go.

Ted and I went back to wheel a bit more, I was just having so much fun. We were on 93C/D crawlin around when Dustin was haulin on the 4-wheeler and nearly met my grille head on. He told us about the YJ with the broke rear axle, I was leading Larry around trying to find the camping spot, then he went back to the parking area. It was around 5:30PM when we were ready to head out, eat and make the 4hr trip back home but we got the parts, brought them up to the top of the mountain (93C) a trail I didn't go on that day, and we hung around until the YJ was fixed. Didn't get off the mountain until 9PM, ate at Fatz and crashed for the night at a local hotel - I was too tired to even air up my tires or connect the sway bar after that.

Here are the pictures between Ted and I:

Never heard about the busted axle until I got back. Travis never ceases to impress. If you think you love this sport, you better look at Travis for inspiration. He lives it and my hat is off to him.

Didn't you have a shock hanging half way off before you started the trail?   :D

I put in a new bottom bolt while everybody was airing down at the trail head.  ;D Nobody even noticed it was 100% again.   {no}

Don't you mean 50% since the left shock is gone?  ;D
