Ga Trail Riders April Ride

Gulches ORVP - Open ride : April 14th

Trail rating : Tier 2 & 3 (Trails for everyone)

TIER 2 – Intermediate: Rides that are open to all 4x4 vehicles. There will be challenges for stock to fully built rigs. Plenty of bypasses for lesser built vehicles. Some light damage/Broken parts can be expected, depending on how far you want to push your vehicle. You will have a chance to gain a lot of off-road experience on these rides.

TIER 3 – Hardcore: Rides for fully built rigs. These rides will not be for the faint of heart. You must meet the vehicle requirement set by GATR STAFF to join these rides. These rides are for the most experienced drivers. Most trails on these rides will be difficult.

Park rates: RIDING

All rates include 1 driver and 1 vehicle:

One time Membership:     $5
Passenger:      $5/pass

Friday 3pm - dusk:   $15

Saturday:    $25

Sunday:     $25

Weekend Pass:    $50

Park rates: Camping

Advance Reservation ONLY.

Parking lot campsite:
$10/tent/nt $25/RV/nt

Riverside campsite: $10/tent/nt
Sleeping in vehicle: $10/nt

Deposit: $20.00 given back upon site inspection

Says it has sleeps 5 comfortably with plywood bunks. I would be in for this route if anybody else wants to go in. Cheaper than camping for $10 a night. $7 a night for the cabin split 5 ways ain't too shabby. Plus the camp sites are spread out and on a 1st come 1st serve. Just thinking ahead a bit to ensure a spot in a cabin or a primitive one. I will be rolling in Friday afternoon around 3pm or so. {popcorn}

They do offer a $50.00 package including camping Friday @ 3 until Sunday afternoon 7 riding fees. Not a bad deal if you have a passenger to split it with. {cheers2}

There are a few camp sites that will hold two tents. There is also some spots to camp just down from the cabin at the parking lot that could hold 2 maybe 3 tents if skip will still let us camp there.

Right now I'm planning on heading out early Saturday morning and camping Saturday night. I wouldn't mind getting there Friday if I could find a way to get there before dark to get the tent set up.

Also, if we can get 10 rigs committed Skip will cut us a discount. Need to know early that week so we can let him know.

He did say another group from Florida was coming that weekend and others that want camp sites should call him.

We need 10 committed rigs to get the discount which would be $20/day to ride and no charge for passengers; however, if you are coming Friday(and I may try to do that) he has a $50 rate that includes the entire weekend and camping. He said he would work with us if our group of 10 is split between coming Friday and Saturday morning, told me to call back early that week to discuss.

Yep, I hate them but I have one. What I do is keep it partly open and bring a second bag to cover up with as well. Works out well as long as you are car camping. Not very friendly to back packing.

I have a three hour drive to the park and if something breaks, well thats a long tow back home. for the most part my jeep is stock. 33" tires, 4" lift the usual stuff. I dont think i'll try anything over my head. Just wondering

I drive to every one. I broke a shaft once, took me a couple hours of work, but I was able to drive home with out a problem.

What axles do you have?

Stock axles and gears 3.07's on 33's.

I'll call Skip later this week and get some confirmation but if we have 10 rigs confirmed the daily rate drops from $25 to $20. If we have 15 rigs confirmed the daily rate drops to $15. Those doing the weekend I hope we can get the weekend rate from $50 to $35 but that weekend rate needs to be confirmed.

Everyone needs to update the sign in thread if there is any changes so I can tell Skip who is coming Friday and who is coming Saturday morning.

He normally requires that all the people that are coming for a discount come at the same time. I told him that some would come Friday and some Saturday morning. He said he would work something out with us.

I'll be in on Friday afternoon and will camp Friday and Saturday night, heading out some time Sunday.

You can camp either night you want or just make a day trip, up to you.

It's about a 75 acre park with a lot of different types of wheeling. It's got hill climbs, dirt trails, rocks, a pipe garden, off camber stuff, a creek bed....all of various difficulties. It has something for everyone. The trail obstacles are mostly short so you can see what you would be getting into, there are bypasses in many areas as well. Also lots of areas to watch some of the bigger rigs do their thing. There is a bathroom with a shower at the office and I think there is still a port a potty somewhere down near the trails. It's a fun place to wheel.

I booked campsite 1, Skip said it would fit about 5 to 7. If I remember correctly I have Ben, Bobby, Jared, Seth, Lawton and myself in it.

You would be suprized how much you need it on the trails. Especially if there is a handfull of rigs. Communication is everything out there.

YOU MUST SIGN IN ON THE CHECK IN THREAD BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON IF YOU WANT TO BE ON THE LIST! I have to get it to him by Thursday evening. So, please make sure to sign in on the check in thread. When you get to Gulches, make sure you tell them you are with GATR and you have to give your screen name to prove who you are so they can check off the list and prove you are with GATR. Not on the list, no deal. Here is the deal given to us...

$20.00 for each rig no charge for passengers no first time registration fee.
Friday before 3pm $20.00
Friday after 3pm 10.00
Saturday $20.00
Sunday $20.00
Camping and the weekend pass the same as always
$10.00 per tent per night

It just makes things easier on the trails to communicate. Radio shack or wally world have cheap ones in stock. If you get a handheld cb, you just turn it on and go. Skip took me on a good tour and i saw some really good stuff that will give us some good krawling! Trails are tight and off camber flexy! Just up my alley. It is bone dry but dusty! Mainly trail 1 others are not bad. Skip has done very well here with the trails. If you have someone in the pack who does mot want to try it, they can get off and loop to meet u. Nice place and small but alot to do. Looking forward to hitting it!

Overall - we had a great weekend with great people!

Post by: Krawler00 on April 15, 2012, 06:22:13 PM: agreed Danny! This park was very well thought out. It had the wheeler in mind and Skip and Dean will bend over backwards for you if you need help. When I arrived Skip took me on a guided tour to get me oriented and to see my level of wheeling so I could lead and know where to put guys. This park is small but has a ton of great trails for mild to wild. I had a blast! The campsite we stayed at was fantastic. All in all on a scale of 1-10, this place is a 10. The house stays open 24-7 for people who need a real hot shower and some food or drinks. As Danny said, he also has a free water station to clean the jeeps! He has a huge air compressor for tires and has tools galore. I used his impact wrench to remove a wheel. Whatever you need he will help you get it. I fully support this place. the group we had was great too. Nice to wheel and not worry about breaking 5 minutes into it. ;D

definitely a great weekend. The weather was perfect and the trails and rocks were killer. I enjoyed the company as well, thanks to all for a great weekend. My pics are uploading, I'll post a link in the photo thread.

Also, strangely enough, even though the rear shock tube is more than halfway collapsed, it still cycled and worked normally...not sure how but it did.

Normally my wife hates anything that I do but she actually had fun & said she would do it again! We will be back, I have a whole new list of things I want to do to the jeep. Thanks to everyone who helped us out on the trails, I learned a little & can't wait to learn more. Maybe next time I can keep my wife awake later than 9:30 & we will try it in the dark.;D

The creek in reverse is more fun than going up, maybe ;D Heartbreaker from the top is also alot of fun in reverse. I am ready to head back to this place. I talked to Skip and told him we would be willing to help him out for events and such and he told me he would let us ride and stay free if we did. {cheers2}
