I am in it for the fun love wheeling kent I will help ya and ride with ya
Nobody take me the wrong way... I am only asking... First off. I am joing CORE no matter what your answers are! I really enjoy wheeling with y'all. my 2 questins are:
1) I just joined in October on this year, 2 months ago, do I need to re-join again in January?
2) The fee went up from $25 to $30? (The GATR home page still says $25)
Like I said, don't take these wrong, I am in regardless.
Thanks!
AJ
I don't know but IMHO, driver skill should be definately the biggest consideration here. I really don't want to sound like im tooting my own horn here, but I think of myself as a DAMN good driver. Running 33s and open / open and holding my own all day, the level of build is only a fraction of it all. But again, thats just my oppinion.
and I don't really think my $0.02 is going to make much of a difference when it comes right down to it anyway.
Kinda sounds to me like it will turn in to
just a group of friends only. Oh well. Southern
tried that and look how it turned out.

This is no SJ.
Everything as far as the club and Core have stayed the same. We want to encourage our members to get more experience, join more rides, and be as active in the club as possible. X is for the most experienced members to go on a few rides that others probably will not be interested in (for example Moab).
Our 2013 schedule looks pretty awesome so far! Can't wait for the Jan ride personally!! {cheers2}

Exactly. We are not taking away from CORE at all to provide the CORE X experience. This is just adding more to what we already offer. This club is active and offers lots of rides for ever skill level, this is what makes us stand apart from the others. We want people to get the most out of their experience regardless of how you enjoy the sport.
Kinda sounds like what the original idea of CORE was before the idea of paying for it. A tight knit group of guys on bigger rides with rigs and skills that wouldnt hold up everyone. Then it became a status for anyone who paid into it.
How will you handle CORE members who want to go on a CORE X ride? For instance; I may not make many rides a year, but when I do I want to make the big ones, Harlan, Windrock, and such. If I am not able to attend the majority of the rides, but have the skill and rig to enjoy the CORE X rides am I not able to go?
There are several open rides on the Calendar for you to attend as well as CORE rides. So far there are only a couple X rides on the Calendar.

I see that. But what if there is a ride during the year that I really would like to make, and I am not a CORE X member? This means that I miss out on going with this group to the park? That does not seem right since I paid to be in a club and wheel with them.
I agree that there needs to be some kind of grouping based on experience and skill, maybe not by putting members to a test though. I have been around long enough to know that there are parks and trails that are more advanced than others and yes some people should probably not attend. But I think that that all of it is at the drivers descretion. To me the CORE X seems to be a popularity contest or a degraded Trail Leader.
If there are some parks that people want to attend and only invite certain people that is fine. But is should not be posted as a "Club" ride. MOAB for instance. There are only a few people that have the time and money to make that trip. Does that mean that those people are the best of the best. No not at all. I think most people in this club would love to go to MOAB at some point in time. The "Club" rides should be to parks that the majority of people can enjoy. Once at the park, groups can be assembled based on ability for the enjoyment of everyone there, at the descretion of the Trail Leaders. The trail leaders should take turns leading some of the less experienced/ less set up rigs, so that they too can enjoy the park. Sacrifice is part of leadership.
I don't think there should be a skill level set. That's ridiculous. How else do you expect people to learn. If your not willing to help people out and learn then the off-road community isn't for you. The off-road community helps one another and teaches one another. If you want a buggy roll out (which very very few have them, then send a freaking pm). Don't exclude someone because they don't have an "x". No one on her knew everything about wheeling or wrench turning but where taught over time.
I know toward summer there is a Moab ride and it's not posted that I saw. Moab is not some "x" skill set. I have heard of stock jeeps doing a lot of it.

What would be ridiculous is having a stock jeeper with little experience follow some experienced guys through Lions Den or the Gauntlet or up School Bus or put them on RBD, etc. The only thing he/she will learn is that the whole trip was a mistake, and will most likely not attend another event.
We expect people to learn on the open rides, and if they feel confident enough, then join CORE and really get out there and explore what the club has to offer. We don't expect anyone to learn on a ride that is way over their head or their rigs capabilities, that is just ignorant.
I advise you to get to know more about this club and its history. Come on some rides with us before you tell us what doesn't work here or what you perceive to be the attitude of the club. This club has levels developed to grow the drivers and their abilities. As they grow there are opportunities to get more involved within the club. We are far from exclusive and offer the most diverse experiences over any other club in the South. The other clubs have failed because they do not offer a well balanced experience for all types of riders and they are not active. {cheers2}

i can understand both of the sides point of view ppl want to go on the hard stuff but also it is a matter of a safety concern at the same time it the same reason the club doesn't want ppl to drink on the rides there is events i could go on but it isnt really suited towards what my rig is built for. the other huge thing is there are ppl who dont no there rigs the way they should which will cause panic in those moment when u will need to know what to do that is just seat time at all the other events getting more comfortable to your rig n knowing what is goin to do. n then there is also the mechanical side u need to no ur rig n be capable of fixing the problems. sure there are others there that r down to help you thats what the sport is all about a group of ppl that r doing there passion n will help each other when it is needed. but u still need to know your own rig better than most
Larry, you are my idol! ;D I am looking forward to the day we can ride 1 time and not have to haul your butt out of trouble! </LMAO/> We love ya Larry!
Hey my take on the Core X is this........
I've been around Matt, Ben, Doug, Tony and some of the
others for about 3 years.I've seen their rigs grow and as
they seen mine. We all went from open/open and struggling
to locked/locked, and trying shit that is crazy. There is a
difference and a trust and knowledge of each other that came
through all those trail rides.
I'll be checking the mailbox for one of two things:
1) my X invitation, or
2) a refund on my Moab condo deposit
:-)
Maybe that can be a CORE & COREX ride on the same weekend. We could separate in the day and booze it up at night.
{cheers2}
5) As a CORE member, I would like to see a CORE ride to Windrock. I was scheduled to go on the last CORE ride there last month but had come crap come up again and had to bail.
6) This is just a suggestion, it sounds like Windrock is the ride that has everybody's panties in a wad. Maybe that can be a CORE & COREX ride on the same weekend. We could separate in the day and booze it up at night.
With all that said.... y'all rock </ROCKIN/> and I am happy to be here as a CORE or CoreX if selected.
{cheers2}

No, THANK YOU!! Something I forgot to say. You guys, sometimes, have a thankless job. Y'all don't get paid to put up with everyones BS and listen to people bitch and complain. You guys don't get paid to moderate the forum and keep it up and running. Hell, you guys don't get paid and you still give all this to us. So for all that... I Thank You!
Been keeping quiet for a few days now observing where this is going. I do like the idea of the "X" as it was kinda what we were doing already anyway as far as splitting up the group. Perfect example was Gulches. So it really just kinda puts a name to what we already do anyway.
I don't want to sound like a 1/2 ass, but personally I don't care 1 way or the other about this CORE X thing much less being "selected" for it. 3 reasons:
1) I don't need a tag under my screen name to completely enjoy every bit of our rides. Or hanging' the friends I have here. I'm going to continue to do what I'm doing, that is to continue to build, continue to wheel, continue to develop skills, and continue to make Kent and Pops laugh their asses off with David around the fire talking about Goats. </LMAO/>
2) I have already proved myself to, hell 90% of the club that I am a very capable driver, with a vary capable rig even if slightly less built than others. And I don't need no little X title to make it so. If the guys want me to lead, I'll lead. If someone needs a spot, I'll spot. Someone needs a little tug, I'll tug. I don't mind doing any of that for anyone. It's all part of wheeln' IMO. Just like getting the rig muddy. Sure I hate having to clean it off, but if I let mud keep me from wheeln' well.... LOL you know.
3) Finally, truth be told, I know I'm not going to be around for ever. Given the nature of my job, I'm most likely going to be leaving in a few years anyway. That said, my ultimate goal is to leave this club better than I found it. Because this club will be leaving me better than when I first got here. And you all better believe that even though I'll be somewhere else, I WILL stay in touch. Depending on where I end up, I mite even host a GATR ride for you guys or something once a year. But that's way down the road and I don't like to think that far ahead. That's my wife's job. ;D
Bottom line is GATR is one of things that evolves constantly. As a loyal member I believe I should let it evolve, and not worry about it unless I see it going down the wrong path. Then I mite pipe in and really protest some of the decisions. Either way, whatever you guys want to do I'm do {agree}wn with. Not like it's going to make my tires go flat or anything.. heh heh
Besides, its about time you "Staff" guys did something worth while. </LMAO/> Jk :smoke
LOL!! Thanks Kent.
I don't know why my guage didn't read accuratly most of the day, then all of a sudden dropped like that. Had I known I was that low on fuel I woulda' topped off that morning. Oh well, we still had a lot of fun. </ROCKIN/>
"I also think core/coreX rides are a great idea. Split up for wheeling, get together for drinks, camping, and night rides in the evening."
Thats really how it's been all the time on the Core rides.
Then you would start having Core mixing in with CoreX and
you would be back to where they where. That would defeat
what there trying to do for that 1 or 2 trail rides a year.

I dont think so. We use to do this every ride well before any CORE. Sometimes we would ride as a group in the morning, have lunch and split rest of the day. Always made sure there was a winch in the little group and had a rough idea of each groups plan. We did this the trip before
last at Harlan when CORE first started where I led the smaller group for half a day and it worked great. Its just a matter of people wanting to split but not wanting to hurt someones feelings by saying "hey man, you dont need to be in this group for this ride, its too much for your rig/skill."
My take FWIW:
Most of the places we ride have trails for everybody and/or bypasses. Parks like Gulches, Choccolocco, and MM make it very easy for either splitting up a larger group or letting different rigs try different lines. I think lots of people like watching bigger rigs try the harder stuff.
Even at Harlan it's quite feasible to combine the tier2 and 3 rigs in most places as far as I know. Windrock would be similar depending on the trails being attempted.
The exception is Moab, where those of us who want to do harder trails should not want to risk a near-stock vehicle going along. That said, there's no reason why smaller rigs couldn't do their own rides on the moderate trails and socialize at night. My feeling is that for the harder Moab trails, the minimum vehicle requirement is 35s, 2 lockers, and winch, plus some experience wheeling.
I think I enjoyed a trip up the bus and down guardrail just as much and it was so close. I sure miss T.

CALENDAR CHANGE:
GATR Staff thanks everyone for their comments, and your input is appreciated. We always take members input seriously, and we appreciate the support on the things you like.
GATR will offer a CORE ride in conjunction with the CORE-X rides, to run simultaneously in another group. Everyone can maximize their trail experience, and meet back at camp for great fellowship around the campfire.
We agree that this makes GATR better, and we appreciate all of the honest input.
GATR STAFF
This is for members that are signed up for Core, but have not paid for a 2013 Core shirt and decal. If you paid for the 2013 Core membership all of this was included.
We will offer the Core Shirt and decals if you would like to purchase them.* = SIGNED UP FOR CORE / NOT PAID FOR SHIRT OR DECAL
Not at all. It is a 4X4 only club though.
So for $30 you get to join the club, you have access to private forums, you get a tshirt & decal? What else? Are there stipulations to the club that you have to make so many rides? Can they just be impromptu rides or do they have to be on the schedule? I'm just trying to figure out if its worth it. Thanks!

No stipulations, other than general safety rules. No set number of rides you need to make.
We offer a full calendar of rides, some are open to all members, some are for CORE members only.
We wheel the best parks in the southeast and always have a great time!
Are you referring to the event Oct 5th, or are you planning to add a new event?
I guess im not very good at searching but just how does one join GATR? What I mean is, are there different levels of membership besides Core? If so what are the levels and what responsibilities/rights come with each level? There is the core membership which allows you to come on CORE rides or you can stay a regular forum member which gives you access to all open rides on the schedule.
Ive seen that Core membership is only $30/year but that's about all ive been able to find.
P.S. We had a great time at GATR fest this weekend. Thanks for the invite and the all around general good natured attitudes we received this weekend.

NOTE: You do not have to have a buggy on 42's locked front and rear to be CORE.
I agree it would be a lot cooler if my rig was locked front and rear with 42s but that's gone be a while. Im stuck with just front lockers for now but that will change soon as I can swing it.

Thinking of becoming a core member myself. No other clubs have even spent the time to reply to my emails.
Question is, i have a stock 1996 XJ. Is that ok? Its not lifted, no body mods or anything like that. Is that ok? I definitely dont want to kill it, so no stupid stuff from me!

Hi,
I am new to the forums. How can I join the club. Do you meet somewhere?
I don't see the "Club Information Tab" as mentioned in the 'club information' thread.
Could you point me to the right place?
Kevin,
That page does not have the info or links to the info.

Hello all, I joined last year and have finally found some time to get involved. I am new to offloading and message boards. I have the emergency contact form filled out but need to know where to send it or how to upload it.
I am hoping to join the group for the AOP ride in March. Looking forward to it!
So I'm not generally able to make it out farther than 2 hours as most of the time I have to schedule a day trip seeing as I have a newborn and a 2 year old. So what would be my procedure to try to gather a few folks for a small alternative ride? Chocco, Morris, and AOP are obviously close enough to get to quickly, and I'd like to be more involved, just don't have the ability(or the desire) to be away from my kids for a whole weekend. I was just curious, and I couldnt find much info on it anywhere I looked.
Looking to join CORE 1/2 way through the year.
When will my membership expire? 12/21/20 or 1 year from now?
Is there anything I’m required to have. I’ve finally gotten a Jeep and I barely have any experience with off road trips.
