Dude, you seriously need to look at the Ride Calendar and orient your family to it.

....Oh and don't forget, friends are the family you get to choose. So by not riding your still letting down family....sort of.

Lemme know when you have a weekend free and we'll schedule a day trip or somethin'... if your wife will let you go.

Yea, we might have to do that. Maybe I'll use this time of not wheeling to work on a locking solution for my front axle..........

Tell her you will enjoy your wheeling trips more if you truss and lock the front axle.....then lock the front and rear.

Last minute for me if I go; weather and schedule conflicts have jinxed me lately.  I'd probably go via I20 if towing; 5 hours each way.  Hotel in Florence for Fri-Sat.

Damn, I really want to check this place out.

I have to be in Nashville June 4 - 7 for sales training.  The location in Brentwood where we will be doing the training is a really congested office park setting and I won't have anyplace to park my chit.  Hmmm...if I can find a secure place to park my truck and trailer for the week maybe I drive my crap to Nashville on Monday and then haul to Hawk Pride on Fri morning...  Research underway.  Need to check with my local colleagues to see options.

If you had a longer trailer I am sure someone could be convinced to haul both Jeeps over there and solve your problem.

It looks like I may be able to pull this off.  I called 9 storage locations in and around the area and found a CubeSmart in Murfreesboro, TN (I can go visit WOD while I'm there) with a 40ft outside parking spot.  All gated and secure.  The shortest time period they will rent for is 1 month.  But they are running a special for the first month, which is half off and then another promo means I can pay $73.05 for a secure parking location that is right off 24 on my way to Brentwood.  I confirmed that there are no hidden fees or issues to cancel on that Friday when I leave.  I can drop the trailer/jeep there on Monday and pick it up Fri morning to head to the park.  By driving to/from the meeting I will get about $285 in mileage reimbursement and even with a net of roughly $211 I think I will more than pay for my fuel expense for most of the entire trip.

I can ask my buddy out Off River Road in Cheatham Co if you can park the rig / trailer at his farm . I wouldn’t suggest it if it wasn’t a place I’d leave mine . He is super trustworthy and the farm is secured and approx 20 min from what sounds like one of those god forsaken Brentwood office parks I know all too well. You could straight-shot from there North  on old hickory to reach his place. I’m halfway between the two in Pegram ( I used to work in Cool Springs / Brentwood / Franklin area & grew up around there...)
let me know and I’ll be glad to ask him & put you in touch.

Dammit! I had planned on this trip, took Friday off, but I have done scheduling conflicts at the moment.  My son decided he wanted to spend the summer with me and is flying in on the 9th.  Flight is easy to change but I have other conflicts as well.

Never having camped here, do we foresee any shortage of areas for us & our camping / parking assemblage or anything ? I don’t worry too much about them being on rock crawling trails as much as any issue w having secure and ample ground area for our enclave...

NP.  It works well and does not require a cell signal or wifi.  Once you have the map on your phone, it simply uses GPS from your phone/device to show you as a blue dot on the map.

I want to check out this app on your phone when we get there. I've always debated it, guess I just need to see it in action
NP.  It works well and does not require a cell signal or wifi.  Once you have the map on your phone, it simply uses GPS from your phone/device to show you as a blue dot on the map.
Just download it. It’s a free app. I use it at hale, chocco, and golden MTN. Much more convenient than a paper map.

Free to download, but dont you pay for each map?
Some maps are free but most you have to pay for.
I think chocco was the only free map that I have, but the others weren’t much. $5-$10.....

Not steering us further off subject but I use an app I used free first then paid i think $12 for called Backwoods Navigator ( pro) and it uses all formats of USG Topo and GPSD , those cartomap PDF format , etc...and you can download the area you select while on WiFi then access without any service later. initially used free but was so good I bought it. Just an option. Tons of maps and types. Even has all the BLM and USFS used maps. High res Topo w live, GPS overlay.

If there is a source for it from AccuTerra or somebody has made one for GPSies or CartoTracks ( very small selection there) or FunTracks ( almost exclusively Western trail systems) or you have a downloadable XML or GPS file that correlates, yes. I have not paid for the AccuTerra maps but  I find using a good topographical map together with whatever the park offers map-wise is more than adequate for getting myself around., A place such as Beasley or any of the USFS sports are , of course in there. The BLM maps are extensive but not applicable to our side of the country. I may not be explaining this apps extensive functionality well so you should check it out yourself.  So, to answer, yes , but there are not tons of OHVs like Hale Mtn or Chocco that will have this data .  Purportedly the newer USGS surveying is going to include trailheads and trails & this is in Preview mode on the app.

Went to replace 2 broken bolts holding the driver side hub in last night, and surprised to find ALL 6 OF THOSE ASSHOLES are broke off.

Bought 6 more drill bits and a propane torch this afternoon to try to speed this up before I have to go through drastic measures to fix this mess. Axle swap cant get here soon enough

I checked w a dependable buddy who’s been several times and he says the ATV track and race course is all on other side and down highest hill and fenced in.
He did not think any crossover issues or interference would occur. There are barriers between park and racecourse and camping is scattered and off to West of the ATV track, so I think we’re all good.

Whoever is there first , stake a claim and let us know where on the map ya are. No one is going down today ,right ?

Got buggy back from Tim's ready to load and found winch wouldn't work.  Issue traced to dual battery system where the battery dedicated to winching was dead.  Currently charging in the driveway, but in a pinch I can hook jumper cables to the starter battery if I need to winch.

Hoping to leave around 6 tomorrow morning  putting me at HP around 10 local.

Battery charged and winch working.  In any case, the winch battery gets charged from the alternator.  Problem is that I haven't wheeled it all year so it ran down in the garage.

And a reminder to charge your GMRS radio if needed.  Mine had run down so charging now.

I left from the Gainesville area & on the ride up my GPS took me to the AOP exit & then west.
On the way back home the GPS took me to Birmingham then to Atlanta & up 400.
Both were pretty much a straight shot & only 3 or 4 turns but the way from AOP seemed flatter.
I try to avoid the ATL as much as possible. Always some sort of delay especially at the interstate 20 exit. The AOP route will be my choice.

I had a great time, attempted to lead one of the groups but not knowing the exact trails made it difficult to know exactly how the trails where going to run.  went thru a few that where a bit like a forest ride, several had good rocks, but very narrow and a bit over grown, besides that , many of the trials where pretty fun.  some of the blues had sections that where more like service roads but then would change to nice river runs.

camping, besides hot was nice, plenty of shade, trees, bathrooms and showers where top notch, free air...  they have a spray wash but it takes tokens $1 for 4 min.  good place to wash off mud or dirt on your way out.    they sold ice at the main checkin place which is nice, u dont have to run to town to get ice.  plenty of open parking for guys with towpigs to unload.

Over all, its a nice park and i would return again.  the drive is long but not hard.  20 to bham, 65 up north.  pretty easy imo.   it is not my top park but its above average maybe one of my top 5.    I felt it was worth the drive.. imo.

Also want to note i had the cargo track app thing installed on my phone, which was great , helped alot at this park.  i really like that app made staying on the right trail very easy.

I've always heard its a side x side park.

Sounds like there arent enough difficult top level trails and rocks to make that haul when you could be at AOP HALE GOLDEN or WINDROCK. Not as far as Harlan from the NE side of town but not much less.

I concur w @kent10sne1 about the park. No, it has it's fair share of decent rock but it's tough to get there until you've been a few times , I'd say.
Of course, I got to not feeling too well midday Saturday but I was glad to have gone. I think the place would be much more fun and interesting in the Fall or Winter , but that's just me. I like cooler weather wheeling. You woykd NOT wanna hit the place after a rain , for sure.
Good trails for all level of wheelers.
Above average facility
Good location
Plenty of space
Easy drive for me / not horrible from Georgia ( it sounds like )
Boatloads of barely trimmed back access trails .
Blues can be blacks or greens.
horseflies the size of bluejays.
rather pricey but might have been the race weekend .
I will go back , absolutely.
(SideXsides now are everyplace, just accept them )

Thanks for Kent leading our group. He was also cool for letting my daughter ride w him and Marie as I was down a few hours.  [slammin]

Overall a good time ; made better by having fellow GaTR members around  , as usual.

At some point Saturday, @Big Dave pawned off his son to Scott to ride around. I'm not sure the negotiations, but Scott either won or lost the bet and ended up with a passenger.

Sometime around mid-day Saturday, a few of us stopped at the pole barn to wait for the rest of the group. While waiting, Little Dave took it upon himself to start picking up trash and cleaned up the area (trashcans were present, but I guess some people would rather just throw shit on the ground). I joined in, but afterward felt sort of bad that it took a kid to remind me to do a better job.

So, good job, Little Dave's dad, on a parenting win

I gave @Big Dave  a ride to his rig while i think, @clark123456  was bringing his battery down the mtn.   just for the brief time i was in the jeep with him, I felt like a better person.   Grats to @Big Dave  i agree with @patman   Big parenting win, we need more young men and even us old lazy farts to be taking his son's example.

Nice review @j3ff3ry_j33p - Good to hear from someone that's been there recently. Now us web wheelers can make the call for next year. Oh, and it's noted that this will need to be a fall/winter trip. Several guys stating how terrible the heat, bugs, and poison ivy were. I am firmly against all three

Those are very nice things to hear. I always wonder how he really acts when we aren't around.
They will be teenagers soon, I'm sure it will all change then. Lol
