Choccolocco ORV Park - Open ride : June 14-15-16 2013

Choccolocco is located in Jacksonville, Alabama about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Atlanta. This park has 450 acres of forest covered mountain with dirt trails, rocks, & hill climbs. You name it, Chocco has it.

Great camping areas with bathrooms & showers, also has an ice machine and pavallion. Chocco is a great ride and camp destination.

Come and ride for a day, or camp and ride all weekend.

Trail Rating: Tier 1,2, & 3 (Trails for everyone)

Park Ride Fees::

   Daily Rates:
   $20 per driver/vehicle
   $5 per passenger

   Weekend Pass:
   $30 per driver
   $10 per passenger

Park Waiver- Signed when purchasing permits

Park Camping Rates:

$10 per person for the weekend

RV sites are $30 per weekend

Itinerary:
Friday – opens at noon, afternoon ride for those that come out Friday
Saturday – 9AM Drivers Meeting, Main Parking Lot, Ride all day, Lunch at campsites, Fire/Night ride
Sunday – 9AM Ride for those that stay

A CB IS MANDATORY ON ALL GATR RIDES

Not a lot for smaller rigs to do here. If I remember right there was not alot of bypasses either. //SLAMIN//

I just went there last month & didn't think it was too bad, but we didn't do anything like boat ramp. Loose rock for sure! I wish I knew the trail names better to fill you in more. The tough stuff we ran into all had bypasses - At least on rubicon.

It's loose rock there but nothing bad. Lockers really do help along with the skinny. It's easy to get around the trails. Boat ramp is at this park and extremely hard because it's just slick. Stickies, a lot of speed, or power usually climbs it.

Post by: Krawler00 on April 25, 2013, 09:04:33 AM: I've seen vids of guys on BFG stickies walk the boat ramp. I guess it is hit or miss. I tried and failed miserably. I have nothing for that obstacle. There is alot at this park, but alot is big stuff and steep climbs. I remember heading up a hill on maybe a 20% slope and loose rock. Made it halfway up and ended up loosing traction and loosing 30ft and could not regain my position. ;D But the best part about this park is the bathhouse! Nicest yet I have found.

You can get somewhat of a running start to it now. There used to be big rocks to navigate and crawl just to get to the edge of the slab but they moved those out of the way last year for a side by side race.

Doesn't make it any easier. I've tried twice...no dice.

Tee Pee isn't bad. I was on it this past Saturday while it was dumping buckets of water while I bouncing off the limiter for 30 minutes. I was determined not to pull rope but had to. If it's dry, just pick your line and go without letting up and you should be golden. This was in a TJ rubicon on 35's, but I have a lot of gearing, 5.13's and 4.1 low.

I know, I was just giving you hell. I can't wait to get the camping gear out! I'm bringing my son wheeling for the second time. The first time he rode half way up Papa Gulch with me!! It's his 10th Birthday and Fathers day, so I thought he would enjoy camping with us.

It's been a while since I've been to Choccolocco...almost drowned the Runner there in the "Swamp" the first time I went.

Post by: Danny Kinder on June 01, 2013, 08:29:52 PM: Well, since I broke my T-case out west, I will be in a mad rush to get it rebuilt!! I have an Atlas ordered, but their turnaround time is 5 weeks right now. I have a spare np231 so I'll probably just put the rear half in that one for now and rebuild the Teraflex T-case after this trip so I can sell it. Definitely not missing this ride though!!

You will be fine. You just have to understand this park has a lot of loose rock. You try and pick a line and hope you can stay there. Some rocks will move under your tires. It's just a little different wheeling style.

They don't. There are places in town. If it hasn't rain in a day or two the park is dry. There isn't Georgia clay there, but loose dirt.

I broke my transfer case in Utah, so Adam (AcGiddens) found a guy on CL that had a np231 with a sye kit already installed (0 miles since the rebuild). The guy said the planetary and input shaft would need to be changed to fit my transmission. I already planned on changing them since they are very rarely the same spline count. I just asked one of our technicians to count the splines and see what I need to have over nighted from Advance Adapters ($250.00 parts - $50+ shipping).

Long story short - They are the same spline count - no over night parts needed //monk// //bluesbrothers// :terror :terror :wav

I'll be putting this back together tomorrow, hopefully everything goes smotth

Ill be headed out around 6:30 saturday morning

I am leaving from Cobb, but my friend will kill me if we leave before 7:01am EDT! I believe I understood correctly that we will gain 1 hour and we should be there before 9am CDT and it is roughly a 2 hour trip.

I will see you there and I will be listening on channel 7 as I cruise on over. I have a green TJ Sahara with an orange work box in the back...look for me on the highway, hopefully not on the side of it.

When I called, the staff member at Chocco said RV spots shouldn't be full, but good to call to ensure a spot...so...that's about all I know.

OK, if my math is correct that is 8 or 9 rigs per group, how many normally in the Built/ hard group.

I would like to see more of the park than I did last Dec, it was 40 deg and raining and I left my top at the house needless to say I did not stay all day.

Man if that weather report holds and we do not get too much rain thurs and fri it should a great day to wheel, no dust

Grease the slides on the calipers and double check all your bolts.

Also, one time I was moving a wheel around and bounced it a little in the garage and lost a balancing weight, one if the stick ons. Could you have lost a weight?

That caliper has been being rickety for a while. I'm getting the master cylinder and that line bled after work tomorrow. Then I will replace the rotors too- I think it's warped but idk yet. Then I'm going to mess with why it's shaking. Check alignment and everything. Putting old shafts in would be a pain but that would tell me if it's that passenger u joint... Ugh! Those alloys are like $50 lol

Post by: gint2 on June 14, 2013, 07:51:36 PM: pulled the fuel tank and beat the HE!! out of the skid to straighten it back out. My fuel tank was up squeaking against the floor of the Jeep. I lost about 20lbs in mud and can now hold an extra 5 gallons of fuel </LMAO/>

I'm all packed and read to roll. Heading out early AM. See y'all then!
