As some of you already know, Dawn and I are hosting a pig roast at our house on 5 Oct.
We will be roasting a hog which we have raised on an open pit. We have PLENTY of room for tents and some smaller RVs, as well as some space in the house. First come first serve there.
Bring your family, camp chairs, and a side dish to share with others. We're going to have games for kids and adults like corn hole, and horse shoes. As well as some wheeln' on the trails on the property. Also have a private shooting range which will have fresh targets with a pistol competition that afternoon. Bring the kids .22s or BB guns as all are welcome. We will also be having a fire in our fire pit starting at around 5 PM or so.
We will be hosting a few cases of Beer, (and of course some shine) but anyone is welcome to bring what they want as far as all that goes. We just ask that if you plan on drinking you also plan on staying unless you have a DD.

Hamilton. Just south of Calloway Garden on hw 27

How long is your range?

Have 2 really. The one right out back is about 40 yards. Which is the one I use most. The other is the trail along the side of the property and its just short of 900 yds.
-
Do you shoot clay pigeons (or real ones) on the property? I'm lacking in handguns (I do have one, since it is the law where i live), but I have plenty of shotguns.
-
Ryan u know I am down an I claim a spot yet

No, I dont shoot shotys here. Simply because I dont have one here. So no clays either obviously.

David, if youre plannin on pitching a tent, sure. But id recomend just arriving early so you can get set up. As for inside, again thats all 1st come kinda deal. We have 2 spare beds, 1 queen, 1 twin, and another spare room which we use for an office. There we can easily put an air mat in there though.

Here are a few maps of the general layout of the place.

Oh, if its possible and others don't mind, I've wanted to sight my .308 to 200-300 yards. Could I bring mine?
Sent from the iCloud above.......somewhere.

Dont see why not. Wouldn't take long. The long range I use is the trail. I use the poles, which happen to be 100 yd intervals for ranging. Just gota stagger trail time and shooting time.

Yeah thats cool. Only thing i ask is that everyone who wants to do some long range shooting get here early so we dont tie up the trail, or other things im sure to have going on. But definately man we can get you zeroed in just a few minutes.

Looks like we're sitting just shy of 165 lbs worth of bacon. By go time she should be sitting right at around 170 lbs. In short, come hungry! //letseat// //letseat// //letseat//
//sniper// Did you mean zeroed in with just a couple rounds? //LMAO//
Well, yeah. I figure no more than 10 shots should do it. Unless the wind is crazy. //sniper//
On a nice calm day I can usually get my rifle pretty darn close at 500 with 5 shots. That of course is while shootin match grade stuff and a gang of gun data. That said, i figure 10 auta get it pretty tight. Especially only going to 300. Start with 2 at 100, 3 at 200 to get come up data, and 5 at 300 to confirm. If i get the bullet and spin data, mite go a bit quicker.
-
^^^if Ryan says he can do it in ten shots, dammit, ten shots it is!!
-
i could do it in 8 with 50 mph winds
-
I'd love to do this but my baby is due the week before. Think the wife will be angry if I bail on newborn duty for beer and BBQ?? Lol

-
Oh wow that would be great! We're definitely going to need all the help we can get. Speaking of, since you're so close, you know anywhere I mite be able to get my hands on some cinder blocks? We need em to build the pit with. Welcome to GATR by the way. ;D
Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk 2

Thanks for the welcome. I don't know off hand who has cinder blocks but give me a couple of days to ask around. How many are you needing for the pit?
-
Not quite sure yet, I'm thinking it's going to have to be at least 3' x 4' x 3' tall. So by my ruff count I think 48 would do it. It'll be slightly taller than 3' but that's fine. That count would give me a stack of 4 blocks tall.

As long as you can maintain some controle of em sure. We have an entire squadron of chickens, ducks, and turkies who basically have the run of the yard....
Speaking of, theyre all really friendly and love to be hand fed so the kidos are more than welcome to feed em if they want.

-
Yeah he is a good pup, loves everyone that will pet him. But if he comes along he will be on a leash. Did not want to bring him if anyone that will be there has an issue with dogs. Ohh and thanks for putting this together!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Oh dude. Please don't mention it man. Yeah as long as he's not going for the critters, he's fine man. If you haven't done so already, go ahead and post up in the check in thread. I'm using that to get an accurate count of people coming.

PS- im not some scumbag super-frat alcoholic; im a future sailor in the navy and get along with everyone.
-
Most everyone is around mid 30s and over. But doesn't really make a difference. All GATR members are welcome. Give you a good opportunity to meet some of the other members.
-
Cool. I'm 90% sure I'll be there, but I will know for sure as it approaches.
I didn't realize this earlier, but I'm 10 or 12 minutes from you too. Used to have some hunting land near you off of 208.
If you need any help on the weekends setting up or moving stuff, let me know. I'd be more than happy to lend a hand.

I'm going to try & make it. There's a lot of you I haven't seen in a while, or not at all.
My wife won't go & my son is still pretty young, so would ya'll mind if a friend came with me? I'll know for sure if I'm going by the weekend.
-
I'm glad a lot of you are showing a lot of interest in this. If you do intend to make it, please indicate so on the check in thread if you haven't already. I'll be using this to determine how much of what we need to get and make preparations for.
-
I have confirmation that i will not be attending...I get to go be at a wedding instead...fantastic.
-
No worries man.
I've been getting a lot of questions on what to bring. Which is totally cool. Really, everyone is welcome to bring whatever they want. I mite suggests a folding camp chair as we are expecting a good number of people, so finding a place to plant it could get crazy if you don't already have one. As for food and beverages, we are hosting a few cases of different beer and of course the pig itself, as well as a few side. Some people are bringing sides as well, which everyone is more then welcomed to being should you so choose. If you want to bring along your favorite brew, or just want to add to the stock pile please do so.And of course if you plan on pitching a tent, bring normal camping gear. We have 2 showers available which run on separate water heaters so no issue there. Other than that just plan on coming out and having a great time. ;D

Only needed 36?
-
Yeup. But i have 4 on stand by incase i need em for something. You only want to have about 18 to 24 inches between the heat source and the pig so its really not that tall. Thats what the rocks are for. That and primarally to hold in heat.
-
Ryan- You are more than welcome for the blocks. Can't wait to meet everyone //;D//
We'll come by one night this week and pick up the flatbed. Thought I had seen somewhere in these post you do airbrushing Ryan? might have to hit you up if it's true on my tire cover.

Just a reminder for everyone, our place is also our animals home. They roam freely, they poop and make noise, so...plan on coming out to the a farm where you might get dirty, have fun playing outside, put the kids play shoes on and let them run around in the woods. Got plenty of targets for shooting. (Away from where the kids would run of course), and Dawn is planning on making some home made icecream. We hope to have that pig done roasting about 4pm. Bring your lawn chairs, your family, your favorate beverages, a dish to share and plans to have fun. See you all in a few days.
-
Really wish I could make this. Hope you all have a blast.

Ryan, can we bring our two dogs? They are mini schnauzers, so they won't take up much room. Lol

Welp, got to bow out on this one. I really wish I could make it, but I really need a day around the house to get things done. Been doing something every dang night for the past 4 weeks and my list of to do's is falling over at this point so I have to bail. Ryan, we will hang at gulches //cheers2//

I am definitely coming, but I have to drop Kell off, grab the Jeep, grab some beverages, and head down. Do I need to bring anything else fir the pig roast/feast?
-
Well I ran into some trouble this morning with a cv boot yet again, and the truck is in the shop. Mechanic said he might be able to get it done by 6 or so, he's putting in a whole new cv axle. My cvs have lifetime warranties so it's free of charge, but it looks like I'm either gonna have to bail out on the m&g or I'm gonna be a little late.
