Title: Tellico Spring Fling Check-In April 3rd-6th
Post by: Matt on February 20, 2008, 11:55:21 AM
Just post up if you are planning to attend. And also if your would like to volunteer to help out with the Show N Shine.

1. Matt - Volunteer

Also, beginning January 1st, 2008, we collectively established a few rules in order to participate in a GATR trail ride.  Please make sure your vehicle meets the following requirements.  If you can not meet the following requirements, unfortunately, you will not be allowed to ride with GATR until your vehicle is in compliance. Even though we may not be doing any (or much) trail riding, please make sure you are in compliance if you decide to ride with GATR.

1. Functional Parking brake or Line Lock
2. Tow strap (minimum 2"/20,000lbs, can be bought for +/- $20)
3. Jack (tall enough to change your own tires)
4. Fire extinguisher (must be secured and easily accessible; mandatory for certain ORV parks)
5. Seat belts/restraints for all passengers
6. CB with clear reception (***See note below)
7. Recovery hooks or D-rings front & rear.  (Cheap Idea:  http://www.stu-offroad.com/guards/gas/tj_hooks.htm)
8. Battery hold-down (OEM or after-market, bungy cords are not acceptable)

*** The properly tuned CB radio is how we communicate on the trail systems.  From time to time, we can not see or hear each other and this is where our CB's come in handy.  If you are on a budget, you can pick up one of the best "budget" CB's on the market for around $59 (Uniden Pro510XL).

its a large event planned involving anyone who can make it. Its the first weekend Tellico will be opened back up and its a big to do. I doubt much wheeling will be done that weekend due to the high number of people who plan to show up.

So, any more news about this weekend? I will not be able to leave MIlledgeville until 4:00 or so on Friday, so I'll be getting up there Friday night. What is our group doing again? We're helping with the Show-n-Shine right?

What time is everyone planning on arriving?

I'm still looking into the trails in Tiger, Georgia for anyone that really wants to do some riding when we leave. I REALLY wanna ride at Tellico. A short night ride would be fine with me. Whatever, as long as we could get on the trails I would be happy. I'm sure everyone is saying that though.

I am going up Friday night, eating at the potluck dinner at Crawfords, doing a night ride, camping and do whatever on Saturday.  Since ther is no parade now, I may hit the trails again on Saturday and see what I can get done.  It wont be as crowded as originally expected.  All the hotels in Murphy have lots of vacancy.

Sweet! Sounds good. I probably won't make the dinner on Friday night unless I skip my 3:00 class and leave after German at 11:00. Gotta see if  that's possible though. I'm also down for hitting the trails no matter what. I don't care if it's crowded.

Hoping to gain a little armor next week. It's my spring break starting this weekend and I'll be working at the shop all week and building stuff every night. I was wanting to do a front bumper and winch, but I think a front bumper, 1" body lift and gas tank skid might be in order. I wish I could have my belly-up done by Tellico, but I haven't picked up an SYE yet.  I'll be ditching the rear seat this weekend too. That'll solve all my storage problems  ;D

I have ditched my rear seat again. I dont think it is going back in unless I need to haul some folks around. Even in that case it will come right back out. I plan on getting a room for fri night. I have yet to ever ride tellico, so if possible I would like to ride.

Matt, you have to ride the trails. You will love Tellico! Rocks and more rocks! I am heading up friday morning taking off work to head up and chill out. Anybody who wants to head up with me is more than welcome. We have 3 campsites next to each other at Crawfords and Danny did not care about the camper. I would love to get up there Friday mid morning and hit the trails for a few hours then come back and sit by the fire and throw back a few! Night ride sounds awesome as I am working on a set of rock lights under my doors. Hopefully I can get it up and running by then. Will ditch German, you won't miss anything.

If I don't go to jail for burning down every Chrysler parts warehouse until I find this freakin fitting I'll see you guys there.  ;D Dealership in Lagrange has ordered 4 different part numbers and I still don't have what I need. I even had them order the entire fuel line bundle which comes with all the gas lines from the engine to the tank.... except the fitting and rubber hose that I need. I sat with them while they called dealerships and warehouses all over the freakin south east. I can't fix the other stuff wrong with my Jeep until this is fixed because the noise this is making my engine cause is drowning out the other noises that I need to pinpoint.

Sorry, my rant for the day  ;D Thought I was gonna fix it today. I'll get it fixed. Shouldn't be this hard for them to find it though. On that bundle they had an almost identical line and fittings but they were for a smaller line.  I'm gonna bump stop the crap out of that corner so this doesn't happen at Tellico. If they can't find it buy this weekend I'll rig something up and hose clamp the mess out of it. I wish I had time to search myself but I'm working almost all day each day this week. Sucks. Anyways, I'll update the situation again tomorrow night  ::)

Replaced all my evap lines last night. It would have been pretty easy... (Isn't that how it always goes?)

So here's the rundown about all the crap I've been ranting about...

I didn't have enough bumpstop in the rear (stock aluminum extensions from Full Traction lift kit) and my rear track bar bracket has been bombarding everything above it. My first real trip on rocks was River Rock last October. After coming out of the Rat Hole my gas gauge was reading full when I didn't have a full tank. It's read full ever since  :D So a couple weekends ago I slide off a rock pretty good and the track bar bracket did it's damage once more. I noticed that a fitting on one of my fuel lines was busted and proceeded to look for a replacment. Couldn't get the fitting only because it's pressed into the rubber hose from the factory. Couldn't get that one hose only because it was part of a bundle from the factory. So last night I dropped the tank and popped off all the connectors and removed all of the evap lines. The new ones popped on as easy as pie. Got to the one that broke and of course there was a problem. The line is metal going down the frame and stops just above the tank. When the track bar bracket hit it, it was almost pinched completely shut.... sucks. This is not a thin line either. So I used a punch and pushed it back open but it couldn't get it perfectly round again. I filed a little off at a time to try and get it to pop into the fitting. Apparently it must be perfectly round and of an exact diameter to fit into the o-ring in the fitting. It never actually clicked to signify that it is secure, but it's in there pretty darn good and he check engine light went off to signify that the evap system was now currectly pressurized.

Now it's time for TELLICO  ;D

I'm gonna hocky puck the hell out of this corner until I get an adjustable track bar so this never happens again. So that's out of the way though. Glad it's over.  :)

Cool Chris. I just got a pair of full soft doors for the Jeep. Bought them from Alex today. Had to trim a little rubber off the bottom seal to get the driver door to fit good. Passenger door was perfect... go figure. Atleast now I don't have to lug around my steel doors spring/summer. Gonna try to finish up my rock lights tommorrow. Just need to wire them up. I am ready to go now!

Today I...
changed engine oil
changed gear oil
new air filter
greased the steering
tire rotation
adjusted toe-in

and then
I inspected my drum breaks and on the passenger's side all this fell on me  :o

No the howling is still there  :(   But there's no grinding and popping anymore  ;D

I'm still not sure what the howling is. Could just be a driveline vib. It sounds like a crotch rocket hammering down. It's loud. Only does it when I'm on the gas and above 15 mph. The jeep is quiet as hell when I'm not on the gas. Even when I'm going 60. BUt as soon as I barely touch the gas agian it sounds like I'm flooring a ricer civic or something. I can't figure this out. I have no idea what would make that much noise and not make it all the time. I swore it had something to do with that fuel line. Fixed that and swore it was the same thing as the noise the drum was causing. Can't figure it out. As soon as something breaks I'll know what it is  :P

I don't know, could still be something with the drum. But before I removed all the crap from the drum (with the jeep on jacks) when I spun the shafts all the stuff in the drum was making the racket that I had heard on the jeep. After I removed all the crap there was no more noise when I spun the shafts. But I think that would be making a sound all the time as it was doing before. This sound is still just as loud and only does it when I use the gas  ???

So did you get new hardware put back on the drums yet?  Also, the only other things to check for the howling noise in the rear are :

1.  Rear driveshaft u-joint
2.  Rear wheel bearings
3.  Carrier bearings
4.  Pinion bearing

Have you had the rear diff. cover off for an inspection?

Yeah I pulled the cover last week and everything in there looked perfect. A few shavings in the bottom but no chips or pieces whatsoever. The teeth on all the gears looks good, but I can't say that I really looked at any of the bearings.

Where should I start on this drum? Would it be easier to just throw a whole new one on there? I'm pretty sure I would have to pull the shafts but that would allow me to check the shaft bearings while I'm at it.

Today I...
changed engine oil
changed gear oil
new air filter
greased the steering
tire rotation
adjusted toe-in

and then
I inspected my drum breaks and on the passenger's side all this fell on me  :o

I recall someone telling you to check the drums... ::)

Damn.... a least it's not predicting torrential downpours like we had in December (knock knock). Temperatures look good though, and maybe it won't rain too much if at all.

Looks like the weather is really iffy, and it's gonna  be SLIPPERY.  Is Tellico still a go when it's wet?  If yes, which trails?

I've got as cabin at Crawford's Friday night, and he tells me there is no organized pot luck.  Everyone is own their own, BYOB&F.  I'll plan on lighting the grill and some adult beverages.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66.
Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

The main trail that we took up (trail 4 I believe) was fine when it was wet, but still pretty fun (at least for me.) I would love to do that again and ford the creek. The main obstacles are just going to be ridiculous when it's wet so I will be taking all the by-passes if it is raining. I don't wanna break anything.

It may shower here and there, but I doubt it will be as nasty as last go round.  At any rate, the one good thing about being wet is the dust is GONE.  I hate dust and would honestly rather deal with mud.

There's no way it can be as bad as it was in December, so I'm fine with going. It's not gonna kill this trip for me. I'm way too excited  {toast}

So what trails does everyone want to do? Who all is gonna be there for a day ride? I'll will be following Krawler and arriving at some un-godly hour Friday morning, but at least we'll have plenty of time to set camp and plan a ride.  :D

At one time they talked about it on Pirate. They figured thats one more place to keep sediment from getting in the stream and losing a water crossing was better than losing the whole park.

I know that a few of us are going to be arriving at the campsite at Crawford's a little before 10 am on Friday morning. I guess it's everyone who's staying at the campsite if I'm not mistaken: Krawler00, Chris, Rotorhead, and myself. We'll be setting up camp and preparing for the day ride to follow. If anybody's gonna be up there that early and would like to join us for a ride then let us know. I plan on going on the night ride after dinner also and I'm sure if these guys can, they will be there too. So just let us know if you'd like to join us so we can make arrangements to meet up.  :)

We'll see. I may have to do that. My roommate from school is riding with me so I'll have to make sure that he is willing to pay too. If I can get my tent up between rain then I'll stay in it. We'll be staying till Sunday so it should be fairly dry when we go to pack up. We'll see on Saturday though. That sleep before Tellico in December was the BOMB. May have to get a hotel room again.

Ok, let me know.  As of the last 5 days, it's gonna thunderstorm Friday night and I'm not doing a tent.  It's either a room for me or I will just come up Saturday for the festivities, but I ain't sleepin' in no thunderstorms in a tent.  Having to deal with a drenched camp takes alot of the fun out, especially if you cant have a fire. LOL!  I wouldn't mind the day run on Friday in the rain though, but just let me know.

No extra cash to spare on this trip for a room. I always bring wood to burn as well so I will have a fire goin. I looked at the forcast and it is much better, scattered showers less percentage today. Let me know if we want to meet.

Ok, I called and reserved Bunk Cabin #1 reserved for Friday and Saturday night at Crawfords so we can still hang around campground, shoot the breeze and have a fire (if weather permits). So far it is myself and Krawler00. Will, if you and your friend want to chip in $12 each per night, you guys can have covered shelter, heat and A/C and we wont have to worry about the rain.  The bunk for both nights is a total of $93.00 and I have already reserved it.  Ben, Danny said no big deal about upgrading to the bunks.  5,6 & 7 primitive sites are now back on the market.

I do too, but I might as well use it if he's offering. I used it before and it made us do 3 complete circles around a block until I turned it off and reset it when we got out of town. Literally, we were going from Athens to Erskin in South Carolina and at one point our route was a circle on the screen  :D

How long do you think it would take me to get there from the loop in Athens? I suppose I'll take Atlanta HWY or 316 out there.

I thought we were meeting Slippery and Rotorhead above Helen?.......

Will, if you know where the athens mall is just head up 29 (atl highway) towards winder. That is the easiest way. From the mall you can be at the spot within 30 minutes easy. Just take 29 all the way into winder. Come to the light were mcdonalds is and turn right onto the main street through town. Hospital is about 2 miles down on the left. Can't miss it. I will be there out front. I think you should have no trouble. I thave not heard for sure about the Helen meet. I am sure tonight we will know.

I will meet you guys in Helen at the flea market at 8:30. If any of us are running late, we can call the others and just meet at Crawfords.

Slippery, do you still want to meet up at exit 12, or do you just want to meet at Helen? Either one is fine with me.

Will, your buddy might want to leave the stock Rover at camp when we go to the trails unless you plan on tugging him all the way.  Not saying Rovers arent capable, but in stock trim, he will get hung up time after time.

No, no, no silly Chris. He's riding with me. The Rover is staying in Milledgeville. I wouldn't let that pretty thing get scratched. Plus he wouldn't bring it anyways  ;D

I merely said he was in for a surprise because this is the same guy that wouldn't follow me through a little mud and thought my Jeep was amazing for making it through. can't wait for him to see all the big boys on rocks. I'm ready to see that new XJ myself!  :)

Alright man, sounds good. I'll plan on rolling out a little before six and that should give me plenty of time to get to the hospital and not have to rush. You've been PM'd!  :o

Hey, my printer is screwed. Would somebody mind printing off a couple copies of this emergency form? I need one for myself and my co-pilot. And how much is this gonna cost me?  :) Hopefully no more than the standard winching fee on Tellico's opening weekend.

Great to meet at Exit 12 as we're both going that way.  There is a large parking lot on the NE corner.  What time? It should be only an hour from there to Helen. Cell 404-314-5835.  I'm all for early.

Advance Auto, Autozone, O'reilly's all have 55w bulbs.  The bulbs that come in Hella are not special.

I know I'm the newest member and just posted up but I'm going to do my best to meet you guys early Sat AM in the Save-a-lot parking lot in Murphy.

Hopefully my co-worker will be covering for me sat as she promised.  If so I will be leaving here(hotel in greensboro) at 6AM and getting up there before 9AM Sat.

IF this doesn't workout for Sat I will at least extend an open invite for anyone headed back towards Atl on Sun that wants to tailgate with a bunch of us at the Bravos v Mets game.

Game starts at 1:35PM but we will begin tailgating around 11AM.

Just eager to meet you guys and thought this might work out...
