Wheeled a little bit today and helped Steve and crew get ready for next weekend.... HOLY CRAP.... this park is completely different now. He got a little happy with the back-hoe  ;D  The start of trail 7 right after Tiger Trap is crazy. It was easy for me last weekend, but it took me about 30 minutes to do that 40 yards or so today. He moved all the rocks around in the Rat Hole and decided it wasn't enough so he dumped some more on top. He dug a big hole at the top of Tiger Trap and I didn't even wanna try it. Anyways, this is gonna be an interesting weekend. Still plenty of stuff for the mild rigs, but the buggies are gonna have PLENTY of hard stuff. It's gonna be fun watching them at the Rat Hole and Carnage.

A huge rig on full widths and 42" Iroks couldn't get up Carnage Hill. I killed his confidence a little more when I told him a XJ on 36s and a stock wheel base TJ went up it last weekend  ;)

haha, yeah we were out there for awhile. I have come to the conclusion that these first generation Smittybilt winches are indestructible. I ran it almost all day winching that Rover, a couple other Jeeps, and myself out. It never even got warm. Seriously, there was never a temperature difference between the motor and the dirt. I'm guessing that's because it's slow as hell.

This is not a GATR ride, but rather a River Rock Fall Crawl Event.  Open to the public.  Lots of wheelers, and usually a big crowd.  Lots to see...   :o :o

They've got a really big area for camping, but it will be crowded for this event. You still won't have a problem finding a spot to camp though.

Plenty of room for tents, nice bathrooms and showers, concessions and live band on Saturday, and plenty of trails to ride and carnage to watch all weekend  ;)

Coming from Suwanee what's the best route to get there? By looking at the map I would say 85S to 285S then 20E, but mapquest has a completely different route that looks to be going thru a lot of little towns. But not having been there before I don't have a clue :-[

My guess would be I20 to Madison to Eatonton to Milledgeville or I75 to Macon to Milledgeville.

If you can get on 20 then get off in Madison and take 441 South. That heads straight into Milledgeville. Everyone I know from Atlanta goes that route. If you have any questions just ask

Crap, crap, crap! I may not get  to do any 4 wheeling this weekend. I was hoping to get my jeep back from the shop last night but as of this morning they are still waiting on one part so chances are I won't get until tomorrow night. The problem I have is that I had new gears and a locker installed in the front axle and the shop said I shouldn't 4 wheel with it until I get at least 300 to 500 miles on them. I don't think RR is that far away......... I guess I could take a 2 hour road trip tomorrow night.
Title: Re: FALL CRAWL at River Rock
Post by: Jimmy on October 08, 2008, 12:22:16 PM
I went to RR after 100 miles or so on my gears. I never had a problem. I think the problem from new gears comes when you do a lot of interstate driving (i.e. gears getting very hot) on them when they are brand new.
Title: Re: FALL CRAWL at River Rock
Post by: GusaGus on October 08, 2008, 01:02:46 PM
i didn't even relize how close RR is from my place.  i was thinking it was closer to I-20.  i'm in but not sure when i'll get there.  some time friday not sure if it's going to be early or late.  will know more tomorrow.

Thing with gears is the initial heat cycle. Run it for about 50 miles or so first shot after being done. Then let it cool off. You should be fine. Unless you want to hit all the hard stuff???

Well, I just found out that I will not be able to pick it up until Friday. So the only miles that will be on are the 22 miles from the shop to my house and then whatever miles I put on it heading to RR.
Title: Re: FALL CRAWL at River Rock
Post by: Krawler00 on October 08, 2008, 04:13:04 PM
You will be fine! That is good for the first run. Just take it easy in 4wheeldrive for a bit.
Title: Re: FALL CRAWL at River Rock
Post by: mdo817 on October 08, 2008, 04:49:42 PM
I agree with Ben, when you drive it home from the shop let it cool all the way down before you drive it again. I usually try and put 20-30 miles first run and let it cool. Then drive a little conservative for a few days.

Will are you going to be working or playing at RR? I may try to slide down there and test the ARB, not sure, the wife has a long weekend and I had promised a trip to Nashville that I've backed out on. So I will have to see what her back up plan is.

Both. I'll be working the gate for a couple hours on both days (Jimmy's helping on Saturday) but other than that my jo is to call Steve if anybody royally screws their stuff up so that entails patrolling the trails  ::)     ;D  So come on over! Will,

Do you you all try to camp in the same area or just take the first spot you see? I'm just curious, I put your number in my phone . I want (need) to ride with a group of people that's done this more than once as this will be my first ride out other than Durahmtown, which from the pictures I have seen there is no comparison between the two.

There will be by-passes for everything. A stock Jeep could ride the main trail and watch/try any of the hard lines. I will not be camping Friday night most likely. But Saturday I'll probably find a random spot that's open. I have a lot of my friends coming Saturday to spectate/watch the band and stuff.

Are you coming on Friday? Just give me a call when you get there and settled in. There's a big field in the middle of the property where everybody camps. Pick whatever spot you want, but closer to the tree-line, the less dust from all the traffic. The rain we're getting today should calm the dust a lot though. There's probably gonna be perfect wheeling conditions this weekend  ;) I'll let you know when I'm riding the trails and you're more than welcome to follow and we can hit whatever trails you're comfortable with.

well we usually run 7, but there will be so many people there that we should look for a channel that nobody is on. Plus my CB ground sucks. I only have a range of like 30 yards right now  :-\   It does the job when we're on the trail though.

well i had a blast this weekend, wish i could have stayed longer but that's just how things go.  no carange for me, jeep ran great all weekend except for crapping out a rear spring a few times and over heating a litttle once (bought the wrong relays for the fan).  hopefully next trip i'll be able to stay the whole weekend.

one more thing never under estimate the power of a york, re-seated 2 tires over the course of the weekend (random rigs, not any of us).

i didin't get any pictures but i know a few were taken,  post up 8)

It is pretty far, you just can't tell cause of the angle. Had a blast!! Thanks guys.

Saturday I had a limb rip out my passenger front brake line  :o  So that was gay. Luckily it thread back in and all was well (really lucky I think) Yeah, my bolt that hold the track bar to the frame just broke in half... so that was awesome. Great time though! Yeah, there will be more rides there soon. Also if you look on there calendar you can pretty much ride every weekend that's not marked "exclusive." So if you're ever coming down and want somebody to ride with, just give me a shout.

NO BENT TIERODS!!!! :D

There may be a ever so slight bend to it, but not enough to worry about, lol. It did take a beating though....Will tried to pull my Jeep through a rock on trail 2 with the winch, haha.

NO! I took the line all the way to the right on that hill, and since the rocks were wet I slid down right into the same f^&$ing spot I always get stuck in.

It's good to know that the new steering held up as well as it did.... cause the stock tie rod would have been TOAST.  :D

No she came with me. There were a bunch of dogs running around all weekend though, so I'm betting one of them had it. Its not a severe case, but the vet said it is going around in the area right now. I spent $50 on antibiotics and a Bordatella vaccine and she's good to go now. Only problem is the vet said she can't be around other dogs for 45 days so I don't know what I am going to do with her if I go to Gulches. She did keep me up all night last night with that nasty hacking cough though, I might give her some Robitussum tonight, lol.

I know, I know................. We had fun.  I just wish they would have had my jeep done on time so that we could have been there Friday night. I'm sure we would have a lot more fun. Buy, there will be another day ;D

Yeah, there will be more rides there soon. Also if you look on there calendar you can pretty much ride every weekend that's not marked "exclusive." So if you're ever coming down and want somebody to ride with, just give me a shout.
