Title: Beasley Knob over Thanksgiving
Post by: Ben H. on October 26, 2008, 10:58:21 PM
I know its early out, but would anyone be interested in going to Beasley Knob the Saturday after Thanksgiving? I don't really have any open weekend for a while and I'm just trying to plan ahead. I know that most of ya'll will be busy that weekend but if a few of ya'll would who will be in town and without a lot of family form out of town would like to go, let me know.

Its a farther drive and I couldn't do any trails that I couldn't do last time. I've only been to Beasley once and it was wet and didn't get a chance to really do much.

Nah, you would be fine at tellico! I could get you all around that place with no problem! Think about it!

The only trails that I haven't done that are open are going up Guardrail, Helicopter pad, and School Bus. Besides maybe the easiest line on Guardrail, I ain't going up those on only 31"s.

What is your clearance? I thought you had 33's. Dang! Well, I bet you could do up guard and heli then down 3.

Hey All!!  I've been watching this board for awhile. I've not been on any trail rides with this club or anyone here (that I know of).  But I've been waiting to go to Beasley Knob!!  After the Dixie Run, I've banged up my 8.8 rear, but I should have it back together this week.  I also belong to TN Virtual Jeep Club, which is also an online club.
So...as for now, count me in on the Sat. after Turkey Day!!!

I think you would be fine. Beasley is more dirt hill climbs with some rocks. Most of the time I was there I was unlocked and on 32's.

I'm 99.9% committed.  I've told family they can have Thurs, maybe some of Fri, but Sat is for saying "Thanks" to the Jeeps!!! {toast}

I just remembered; That Saturday is the UT vs. UK (not as big as I'd hope for) and the GT vs. UGA game. So Friday is a yes for me but Saturday is looking bleaker.

So is it gonna be the knob? :D Day aafter thanksgiving is not good for me. Saturday. Better.

I don't think I'm going to this one. Gotta save the funds for Tellico on the 13th.

But some word: a few of my Rover buddies went to a little event there this weekend. They said that almsot everything has been graded and scraped. It is mostly just the steep climbs and descents which I have no problem with especially with the scenery cause his pics were awesome! It's beautiful up there.

Post by: Krawler00 on November 10, 2008, 08:31:27 PM
I agree with Will. You can do all the trails in a few hours and it's a bit... slow. Save for Tellico sounds good! {toast} {toast}

No way! Atleast when a few of us went there was some rock involved with the climbs and made it a little fun...

I would like to get up there, but Thanksgiving can't happen for me. I've got a lot of fixin' to do on the Jeep to get here ready for Tellico and I'm gonna try to weld my truss on that weekend.

By the way, when do they reopen after winter?
Title: Re: Beasley Knob over Thanksgiving?

Should be the same time as Tellico except Beasley does rain closure so if a lot of rain right before opening day it will take longer.

I agree,  I am not sure what is going to happen.  I normally have to work the Friday after Thanksgiving.  However I asked for the day off.  My boss first laughed.  He then said he might see what he could do.  If I get that day off.  I will probably ride Beasley with you guys.  It is about 800 miles round trip for me...

I will keep you posted..

Well....let's try to finalize this ride if at all possible and set-up a meeting time and place.  I've been to Blairsville 2-3 times but I might have to do a little research to find exactly where I need to be. :hlp  I go to Blue Ridge about every 2 weeks and I'll be up there on the 21st, so I may look around a bit while I'm up there.  I think I seen a Home Depot up there???

Here are the directions to show where ya go. I think I got the right Windy Hill Rd but the correct one has a sign anyways telling you to turn off 515.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Blue+Ridge,+GA&daddr=34.877975,-83.926771&hl=en&geocode=CS6x9V0oVJBWFer9EwId6VH5-g%3B&mra=mi&mrsp=1&sz=16&sll=34.880633,-83.931406&sspn=0.009805,0.022659&ie=UTF8&ll=34.867975,-83.960009&spn=0.040915,0.090637&z=14

If you look at this map where my google maps takes you is the parking lot off of the yellow trail.

So far it looks like I will be in town. I am talking to Josh (Brother in Law) on here as well to see if he wants to go.

I havent been in a while but am familiar with the trails. There is a MCDonalds we could meet at off the main road in town.

Thanks Matt, the meeting at McD's is a good idea.  I've been to Blairsville, but only 3-4 times (been awhile).  I can def find it!  It'll take me about 2-2 1/2 hrs to there.  So what kind of time are we thinking about meeting???

already kids lets get some crap set in stone here!

-We know Saturday. People are meeting at the McDonalds I think (there is a Waffle House closer to the trail head).
-Here is the website, maps on the right side
http://www.fs.fed.us/conf/rec/ohv/beasley.shtml
-Link to google maps showing trail head. Obviously put your address in the A part to get it from your home. Cant miss the turn, there is a sign saying to turn there. Also there is a gas station maybe .5 miles from where you turn to plenty of gas close by.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=34.872588,-83.964686&daddr=Old+Satterfield+Rd&hl=en&geocode=%3BFaYyFAIdBWH_-g&mra=mi&mrsp=0,1&sz=16&sll=34.873715,-83.961596&sspn=0.005493,0.013497&ie=UTF8&ll=34.885192,-83.944216&spn=0.010983,0.026994&z=15
-Cost $5 to RIDE!!!

Ok so what time do we want to be at trail head? I am cheap and will eat breakfast at home. Gas is $1.74 a gallon in Smyrna, the fee is $5... I am so there! We just need to watch the weather, rain or snow and it will be closed.

I'm in if I can get a sitter, or may bring both kiddies. I say meet at 10am. Not like it is far from the wafflehouse and not an all day place to ride. 3-4 hours you can see it all.

no "flop hill" for me this time. Well I take that back... I would climb up it no problem and take the little bypass around the rock ledge that you took Ben BUT I wont be coming down it, no thanks.

Post by: Krawler00 on November 21, 2008, 02:19:23 PM
I think going up would be fun. I wanted to turn around that last trail and hit that ledge. I say we meet at the affle waffle!

do yall plan to eat at the affle waffle or just meet there? I will eat if everyone else does. Ben is right, no need for an early start time. It is going to be cold so there will be a lot less standing around to chat moments so we can probably come close to wheeling the whole thing.

Just thought I would let you guys know you are killing me.  My boss has still not let me know if I can have off the Friday after Thanksgiving.  If he does,  I AM THERE.  If not, I am still tempted to make the trip since you are riding on Saturday.  It is about 7.5 hrs from here.  I will let you know for sure prior to the trip..  I always enter Beasley beside the Propane tanks just before you get into Blairsville.  Is this where you are meeting or are you meeting at the other parking lot??

Even though I started this idea, I won't be going. Too much football that day. UGA vs. GT, AU vs. UA, UT vs. UK.

Bria, I wouldn't mind going to Gray Rock on the 28th but my Jeep has no chance in hell of keeping up with your buggy.

We could ride together with no problems. I want to go somewhere. I don't know anything about Beasley Knob. Can I ride there with my buggy. Not street legal.

Post by: Matt on November 23, 2008, 09:09:46 PM
I guess the rules would be the same as tellico. There is a lot with room to get the buggy off. I dont know if there is enough to entertain you there. There are a couple nice climbs but few "obstacles". LOTS OF DIRT
Title: Re: Beasley Knob over Thanksgiving
Post by: brian on November 23, 2008, 09:14:32 PM
Is it mostly dirt roads?

Not all of it but most of it is dirt.

There are a few sections of this.

They close the gates if it rains. Too many Jeeps flopping over and rolling down the mountain.  ;D

Seriously though, you don't wanna be there when it's wet. You can't stop the Jeep.

Both times I have been to Beasley it was right after a rain.  It makes things a lot more interesting.

Just like to make sure everything is a go for this ride. I haven't heard of any rain today, so FS shouldn't close gates.  Not sure about tommorrow, calling for rain, but it may miss this area.  Surely we can get more than 3 to ride???  Waiting on the word!!

That is not real far. But for the price I would probably shoot down to Morris. Might just wait for tellico, if it rains tomorrow. I will work on my "Tie Rod" tomorrow instead.  :-X

I sure wish someone would call me in the morning if this ride is cancelled.  I'll be leaving the house between 6:45-7:00.  I'd hate to drive 2 1/2 -3 hrs and find no one at the Waffle House but me, a couple guys off 3rd shift and some ugly chick!!
If at all possible 423-580-6168 Thanks!!  - Ray

:fu( Well,well,well.....I didn't get a call,  I checked till 7am on this thread - didn't see an official "CANCEL" notice.  So... off to Blairsville I went.  It sprinkled a bit here and there, but nothing serious.  Not knowing whats considered "too much rain" for trail closure or ride cancellation, I didn't think it was all that bad.  OH WELL!!
At least I know where it is now! ???

Sorry :( I was up at 9:00 looking at the weather before I headed out. I figured I was already to late to save you a trip. They must of left the trails open and took a week off. That place is pretty nasty muddy. All the steep hills make it pretty dangerous to come down. This was a crappy day.
