Thought I would start a discussion thread for the Nov 1, 2009 Ad-Hoc Ride..
Rabunjeeper said there is a place near the river crossing with room for 15 or so jeeps that we could stop for a lunch and some visiting time... Bring your lunch.....
He said we would be there around noon...
ok im tempted for this one, but i dont have any rear recovery yet. and will search this week. i hope this wont be a problem i still have front recovery points and my own straps.... need to pick up a hi-lift though i sold my last one.
Guys, if somebody gets stuck on a forestry road we have issues! :D
Wellllll Mark did rip his steering box off on a very flat part of Durhamtown ;D

::) Mark. That explains it.
must be a GA thing, cause i've never heard of them
By the way, ... Does anyone like boiled peanuts?????
definitely will be easy.. Mostly forest service rds.. Scenery should be great.. Hopefully it will be on the cool side also... the meeting point is between Hiawassee GA and Clayton GA.. on hwy 76....
After we do this ride and end up in Hiawassee we may try to ride up Bell MTn.. we did last year.. Shouldn't be a problem if the gate is not locked... I will try to check it out first...

I swear ever corner store in north georgia has 'em. Some have roasted peanuts.
I will introduce them to you on the ride.. I boiled 20 pounds the other day...
If I read my google maps it appears to be straight up 985 to 365. Is that how you guys would come out of the Buford area?

if you would like to meet up with me and some of the guys from my club and caravan up, you can get off 365 in Clarkesville. we would be going up highway 197. its a more scenic ride and probably shorter than going all the way to clayton first.
here is a link to a map for ya:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Buford,+GA&daddr=34.867412,-83.519783&hl=en&geocode=&gl=us&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=14&sll=34.871285,-83.559351&sspn=0.030843,0.084543&ie=UTF8&z=14
With this many people going we should probably be going to beasley knob.
I am open for meeting on any exit along I-985. My first thought is for me and swamprat to meet off of Friendship (exit 8) that way I can grab some breakfast for the wife and youngin. Does Exit 16 have a McDonalds or Burger King? What time would you want to meet off of exit 16?
wait what day?!?!?!
If it's on this map, it should be legal. Here is a zoom of the area. Looks like some nice twistys ion the top!The f/s roads on your map, 32c to 54 is the abe gap ride.

we are meeting at 10 a.m. at lake burton
Yeah really cause if you forget to set back you clocks, then you will miss the ride on sunday morn.
(I hope the Crown doens't have me bassackwards.)
If anyone wants to go riding tomorrow PM me here, put a time and metting place in, I cant seem to reply to PM's. Or a PH number soI can call. I have limited cell service, but it seems text messages and emails come through pretty well.
Sitting this one out. Rain has discouraged me. Plus it will be muddy. :P
Believe it when I see it. I bet the rain lingers thru sunday morning. :P
we won't be going through any deep water, no need for drain plugs.
im ready to rock!!!
for those of you who are meeting up with me in clarkesville, the direcetions that i gave via google maps is to a BP gas station in clarkesville. my cell is 404-295-8396 and i will be listening on channel 7 on my cb. havent really tested out my new cb yet so im not sure on how well or how far it works yet. we dont get much truckers chattering on the cb's up here.
It was a lot of fun yesterday and great to meet everybody! Thanks for all the help. {toast}
First time for me using 4wd or driving in a creek with the jeep. {woohoo} So fun! The 4wd kept popping out of 4lo, dunno if it was me or if the BL bracket needs adjusting. I'll check that today after I fix my tire.
Picked up a nail on I-75 on the way home. 70mph in the HOV lane after going around a sharp curve and having the jeep start to feel like a weebly wobble was a bit nerve wracking.

We had a great time,Thanks every one.
Hey Andy, is that trail over the mountain to the east of Clayton a hard one, or do you know any hard ones with rocks?No doug, it's not hard and it's very short. There's nothing real hard up here left. Our last hard one got closed about 3 month's ago. I've been hearing about one up near the cherahala skyway around robbinsville nc (about an hour from here), called little buffalo, but I don't know if it's legal. I seen some awesome pics of it though. If you know anything about it, please let me know.

You should be banned for listening to that while in a Jeep! :D
